After making a huge breakfast for Aiden and making sure he got ready for his day out with his dad, I made my way over to the Kingston mansion since Aiden left his car behind. There were people rushing all over the place trying to set up, I almost didn’t recognise the family room with all the drapes and tables.

“Wow, you’re really going all out,” I smiled at Mrs. Kingston.

“He’s my only boy, and he needs a good party before he starts believing he’s too old for them,” Mrs. Kingston chuckled. “Now, you go on and get ready. I have a stylist coming in to do yours, mine and Allison’s hair. We are the main women in his life we need to look presentable.”

I laughed at her statement and made my way up the stairs. One of the helpers led me to Aiden’s room where my dress was hung and a selection of jewellery.

“So your big speech was for nothing, huh?” Allison’s snippy voice rang out through the room.

I sighed. “Things happened.”

“Yeah, things like all the money my brother has and the stuff you are getting because my parents think you really care about him,” she laughed.

“What is your problem? Jesus, I care about your brother,” I paused. “You know what? I don’t have to explain myself to you.”

I made a move to go passed her but she grabbed my wrist.

“Allison!” Mrs. Kingston shouted. “What in the ever loving world is wrong with you?”

“You cannot see what a gold-digging whore she is? She is nobody! A good for nothing piece of trash that was probably not even wanted by her parents which is why she had to come here. She is a good for nothing bitch that’s here to steal my brother’s money and use him,” Allison shouted.

I stood with my hand over my mouth, shocked at her words.

“Allison! You will apologise right now!”

“No!”

“It’s okay,” I finally aid in a calm voice. I had no desire to rip apart a family. “You have no idea what is going on between your brother and I. I care about him, hell, I love him. And you are right, my parents didn’t want me. I am a good for nothing bitch because I was told that over and over again as a child while you grew up with a silver spoon in your mouth.”

I grabbed my purse and my cell phone. “I hope you said all you had to say, Allison, because I’m leaving. I’m going to go back to the house and I’m going to study or do something or another. Your brother is going to come home to his party and notice I’m not here and then he’s either going to leave or he’s going to stay out of obligation to your parents and be miserable. You’ll try to shove some better than me girl in his lap and it will ruin your relationship with him because what he wants is me.”

I walked to the door and turned around, “I may be a bitch, trash and a gold-digging whore as you called me. But at least I have respect for my elders.”

Aiden had tried to call me a few times but I switched my phone off. I turned all the lights out and locked the doors, cuddling under my blanket I took out Fifty Shades and decided to get lost in the fantasy of Christian Grey. I must have fallen asleep somehow because the next thing I knew was someone lifting my book off of my chest and leaning over me to put it on my side table. Aiden smelt like pure man and cinnamon and even a hint of whiskey.

“Hmmm,” I murmured. “You smell nice.”

Aiden chuckled deep in his throat. I watched as he quickly stripped down to boxer briefs and slid under the covers. The heat of his body settled in behind me and he wrapped his strong arms around my waist. His thumb flicked the material of my tank and he traced circles around my navel.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered in my ear.

“For what?” I answered in a breathy voice.

“Mom told me the things Allison had to say. I couldn’t stay there while you were here all alone,” he sighed.

“I don’t think everyone will be very happy with you for leaving your party,” I mumbled.

“There wasn’t any party.”

I turned around lightening fast which caused Aiden’s hand to move over my hot skin and rest on the small of my back. I shivered at the contact. “What do you mean there wasn’t any party?”

“Mom knows I wouldn’t have
stayed if you weren’t there,” Aiden shrugged. “So before I got there, the house was back to its normal self. I think that clued me in.”

“I’m so sorry, Aiden,” I gasped. “I’m ruining everything for you.”

“No, Mia, you are as important to me as my family—even more so. I want to be the reason you smile, I want to be the guy you dream about, I want to be the one that chases all the demons away,” Aiden stared into my eyes, his bright blue gaze fixed on my teary green ones.

“Why, Aiden?” my voice trembled.

“Because I love you, Mia,” Aiden pushed my hair behind my ears and wiped the tears that fell from my eyes. “I don’t care if you had a bad childhood, I don’t care if you’ve dated the whole of the tri-state area and more than anything else, I don’t care about others’ opinions of you. I love
you
. I love who you have been these last few months.”

I gasped and threw myself further into his embrace my lips plastered to his. He gasped at my sudden assault giving me entry to slip my tongue between his luscious lips. We kissed like starved humans stranded on an island. I manoeuvred myself so that I was straddling him, my hair creating a veil around us. I bit playfully into his bottom lip while he slid his hands up the flat of my stomach and to the mounds of my breasts. He squeezed and played with my nipples until I moaned and clawed at his t-shirt.

Soon we were a mass of tangled limbs as we fought to get our clothes off. Once naked, Aiden lay me flat on my back and kissed me deeply, his lips fluttering at the spot below my ear. He bit the fleshy skin were my pulse was reminding me of a vampire. I moaned loudly as his cool lips finally closed around my nipple and his other hand massage the bereft nipple he wasn’t latched onto.

My fingers threaded through his hair and I pulled. I was so sure I may have been left with a few strands stuck between my fingers. He finally kissed, licked and sucked his way down to my belly button laving at the indent there.

He pulled back and looked down at me. I must have been a sight with my naked body sprawled across the bed, my dark hair across the white pillows with my legs spread and the most gorgeous man kneeling between them.

“You are beautiful,” he murmured.

Then he bent his head to the juncture between my thighs. He spread me open with his thumbs and took my most intimate flesh into his mouth. He paid careful attention to fluttering his tongue over the bundle of nerves making the liquid of passion race down to that very part of me that wept for him. Aiden licked between my folds and sucked onto my clit, leaving me begging for something, anything.

“Come for me, Mia,” he growled.

I took one glance at the moisture around his lips and his dark blonde head peaking up from between my thighs and let go. This was the first proper climax I’ve had, every other one was self-inflicted. But this was earth-shattering.

Aiden crawled on top of me and produced a foil packet. I bit my lip in preparation. This was it. After two years of no sex, I was finally going to have it with a person who loved me. I watched as he rolled on the condom and then braced his hands on either side of my head.

He kissed me slowly, so slowly that I felt as if he was savouring every moment our tongues collided and our lips touched. I felt him enter me, stretching me, filling me. I broke the kiss to throw my head back and shut my eyes in pleasure. It hurt a little because it had been long and also because of Aiden’s size but soon all of that was forgotten when he started to move. He kept a slow steady pace, thrusting in and out in short shallow strokes. That was until I clutched his ass and screamed for him to go harder and faster. My hands let go of him and wrapped around the wrought iron of the bed frame. Aiden held my writs against it and powered into me, grunting and moaning with abandon. Finally we felt our climax at the same time.

Aiden collapsed onto me, his weight a welcome feeling. Too soon he rolled off the bed to dispose of the condom and slid back between the sheets and spooned me.

“I love you, sunshine,” he murmured. His breathing deepened and his hold loosened. I shifted and watched him sleep. His lips parted and his long lashes resting against his cheeks.

“I love you too, handsome,” I whispered.

Chapter Eleven

Aiden and I became hermits for a whole weekend. We shut off our phones, locked the doors and stuffed his car in the garage. We spent the entire weekend getting to know each other, from our favourite foods to our most embarrassing moments in highschool. Aiden told me about his ex-girlfriend who used him for his money and connections, it was the reason Allison was so protective of him. I still wasn’t able to tell him about my parents and I think somehow he knew they were a sore topic for me because he never asked about them, ever.

The Christmas season was upon us and here, people celebrated Thanksgiving. The Kingston family made a big deal about it so there were preparations happening in the mansion. I only visited Aiden’s mom when I knew Allison was at school or when she had a sleepover with a friend. Once I was leaving when she came in, she tried to stare me down but I guess that’s hard to do when the person you’re trying to stare down is looking straight ahead and ignoring your presence. I noticed her trying to catch Aiden’s attention too, but he would just throw his arm around me and walk.

I felt bad that I was the cause of their spat. Aiden seems to think it would help her learn to watch her mouth. He felt she needed to learn consequences since she always got away with everything. Deep down I knew he missed his sister, and yet I was selfish enough that instead of taking a step back I clung to him with my all.

I never fought fair I guess.

Aiden was putting me first and for the first time, I was happy. My calls back home were short. Mom wouldn’t speak for longer than ten minutes mostly because she would remind me that I left her there. I knew she was goading me into saying something, anything, so she could cry and maybe pin it on me. But I powered through, I just answered her questions and avoiding any arguments. Sometimes I would make an excuse about call minutes and other times I would just cut the call and text her saying the phone battery life was exhausted.

My father didn’t call as usual. He texted now and then, I replied now and then. But as I watched Aiden and Dianna mess around in the bar, I realised I was happy. I was finally getting to live and that was more important than anything else.

I was walking towards the exit after my classes were over. Exams were almost done, and I had just come out of a good paper. I felt good. That was definitely an easy A.

“Hey, Mia!” Thomas Brody shouted for me.

Thomas was a strapping man with broad shoulders and an impeccable fashion sense. He was one of my really good friends. We often studied together and I knew aide hated it, but he had mellowed somewhat.

“Hey, Tom,” I smiled and leaned against the brick building. I thought I could catch up with him a bit before going to Kingston.

Thomas reached me and bounced on his feet. “Okay, how easy was that paper?”

I laughed at his reaction. “Too easy, I have this insane feeling that they’re going to call us back and say ‘we have another paper we would like for you to write, this one will definitely be harder’”

Thomas chuckled with me and reached out to push my hair behind my ears. My smile dropped immediately. “Tom, I already told you…”

“Yeah,” he whispered. “You have a boyfriend, but I can’t…”

The rest of his sentence was cut off because his mouth met mine. I froze for about two seconds and then tried to bring my knee up to his balls but the asshole knew I’d do that.
He caught my thigh and pressed in closer. His disgusting hard-on pressed against my centre. There was nothing else I could do besides let him kiss me until he was done. That is until I remembered something from a self-defence class I took once. I opened my mouth and granted him access; as soon as his tongue slid in I bit down on it, hard.

Thomas yelped and jumped away from
me, he wasn’t fast enough to react so I finally slapped him and followed that up with a knee to the balls. He rolled around on the ground and tears streamed down his face.

“You don’t ever do that again,” I said through clenched teeth. “You were my friend and I trusted you as one. You took advantage of that.”

I walked off, leaving him to writhe around the ground. I heard a rustling and then the sound of running feet. I glanced around to find the culprits but I couldn’t see anyone. I looked back at Thomas and wondered at the apologetic look on his face.

It was just a little bit after midnight, the bar empty save for the rest of us cleaning up while Aiden locked up the cash in the safe.

“So tell me what you and the boss get up to after hours,” Veronica winked at me.

My mouth dropped opened as I took my apron off. “I—what?”

“Don’t play coy, we know the two of you are much more than boss and employee,” Jennifer chuckled.

“Hah, you would know all about that wouldn’t you, Jennifer?” Lena teased.

I frowned and glanced between Lena and Jennifer, Dianna looked uncomfortable. Silence bore down on all of us.

“Okay, so Jennifer slept with Aiden, big deal,” I rolled my eyes and said. “I get it. I didn’t expect him to be a saint.”

“Yeah, but working with the girl he slept with?” Abigail raised her brows. “You got guts.”

“Guys, it was a long time ago, let’s drop it,” I grumbled, sliding on my jacket and reaching for my bag.

“Mia, this happened almost four months ago,” Dianna told me once all the girls filed out.

I looked at my redheaded friend who came to mean so much to me in the last six months that I’ve lived here in Michigan. Her face was apologetic and worry coloured her every feature. From her reaction I could guess that Jennifer was probably one of the girls he snuck into the house when he thought I had no idea. The thing is, I could stand here and be heartbroken about it or I could accept the fact that he is a good guy to me now and loves me.

I shrugged. “Shit happens. I’ve been with a lot of guys and he knows that. I would be a hypocrite to judge him.”

Dianna gave me a hug. “I’m proud of you. For a girl that had no trust what-so-ever… you’ve come a long way, Mia.”

I smiled. “Let’s hope the past doesn’t sla
p me in the face by rearing its ugly head.”

“If it does, I’ll help you snap its neck,” Dianna giggled.
