Chapter 1

“Daddy, you know I can’t work with Yuma.” Her big green eyes were pleading with him. She’d been in love with the man for years, but he was so far out of her league that she didn’t have the possibility of gaining his attention. “You know why!”

She flung her short, business-suit-attired body into a chair in front of her father’s desk. Of course, the outfit was a little big on her, but how the hell else was she going to cover those unwanted curves?

“Madison, I know how you feel about him, but honey, you’re going to have to face your feelings eventually.” Her father ran a large hand through his silver hair. “You never know, maybe by working with him, you’ll be able to work him out of your system.” The older man, set to retire at the end of the month, smiled down at her. “Maybe you just need to have a one-night stand with him. After you see what he’s like as a lover, you may not want him anymore.”

Had she not been at work, she’d have been screaming at him. What the hell kind of advice was that? And from her father no less! Yuma Wolfe was tall, at least six foot five, with a broad, muscular build that made him look stocky, but she doubted there was an inch of fat on his bronzed body. He had Native American ancestry. His mother was a Chippewa tribe member, and his father was Irish. He wore his black hair long but usually kept back at his nape in a leather thong. His sensuous lips were hidden by a mustache and goatee. To look at the man, it would seem that he stepped off the cover of a romance novel.

On the other hand, to talk with him would make a woman, or in this case, this woman, bash her head into the filing cabinet. He was overpowering and overwhelming. He wore his dominance as easily as he wore his tailored suits. Not only was he bossy, but he seemed to want everything his way all the time. While it might be fun to explore her submissive desires, and yes, she had a few, with Yuma, she couldn’t imagine having to work with the man day in and day out. One of them would die.

“Daddy—!” He cut her off before she could continue with her case.

“Madi, you’re just going to have to deal with it,” McArthur James roared from behind his big desk. As senior partner for James, Wolfe, and Reynolds, he had the authority to move everyone around as he saw fit.

“Dad, you know I can’t work with
him
!” She pulled a piece of fallen, deep-red hair behind her ear. “The man constantly bitches at everything.” Crossing her legs, she gripped the arms of the chair until the tips of her fingers turned white. “Do you know that he threw out the Christmas gift Cheri gave him—in front of the whole typing pool?”

“She gave me a bottle of Spanish Fly.” A sardonic voice, deep in intensity, but velvety smooth, chuckled behind her. “I’d need more than that to hook up with that piece of work,” Yuma Wolfe stated as he rested his arms on the high back of her chair. “What other excuses can you come up with Madison, surely something better than that?”

Without looking, she’d known when he showed up just like she knew anytime he came within twenty-five feet of her. In those instances, her pierced nipples hardened into tight little points that ached. The sad part was she didn’t even have to see him to get that reaction. Honestly, it drove her crazy.

“You’re an asshole, and I’d rather work in hell?” she muttered as she glared at her father.

“Welcome to hell, honey. I’m sure you’ll do just fine.” Yuma gave his parting shot before walking out the door.

“Dad, this is so not funny.” Mac continued to laugh, deep chuckles rumbling out of his chest as his daughter sat there with a pinched look to her beautiful face. “Wait to see what I get you for Christmas this year.”

“I can’t wait. I’d like a twenty-two-year-old blonde with big tits,” Mac stated.

“I’ll make sure she’s a hundred and twenty-two, has no teeth, and only bathes once every ten years,” she threatened as she folded her arms over her voluptuous chest.

“Honey, please don’t.” Mac stood and walked around to face his daughter. His hands held her shoulders as his emerald-green eyes stared into hers. “You will do fine. Cheri won’t leave him alone. She even showed up at his place last night. He doesn’t want to fire her—you know she has six kids, all under the age of ten, so this is the only way.” Her father reached down to give her a hug. “He’ll be different when you’re working for him, hon. Just you wait and see.”
