Denise dozed in the chair by the bed. She'd been there for three days now. Of course the trailer was parked in the hospital parking lot, but she couldn't bring herself to leave for longer than it took to shower on board.

What if he woke up while she was gone?

              She had to be there.

She had to tell him she loved him.

God help her, she did love him. Mightily. She knew it the instant she'd seen his car flip over. Heck, she'd known it before that. She'd just been too afraid to admit it to herself.

Now she was afraid of something much worse than her own feelings.

Now she was afraid of loosing him.

Ansel moaned and she sat up, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. She glanced at the clock. 5 am. She got up and went to check on him.

Beautiful blue eyes blinked at her. Dimples appeared in a chiseled and handsome face. White teeth showed bright as he smiled.

              He was awake.

              He was
alive.

He looked very happy about it.

              Maybe
too
happy.

The doctor had said something about the possibility of brain damage or memory loss. Of course they wouldn't know for some time… but the goofy look on his face was making her nervous.

              "Ansel…"

              "Hello sweet cheeks."

She laughed. He was definitely fine. She couldn't even be mad at him.

              "You had an accident."

He shifted in his bed and grimaced.

"I gathered. How bad is it?"

              She pressed her lips together.

"Bad. You didn't break anything but you hit your head pretty hard. They said you shouldn't race for a while. Maybe ever."

              He frowned.

              "I'm sorry Ansel."

"What about Donnehy? That little jerk caused the whole thing."

She blinked. She hadn't thought about Donnehy since they released him yesterday. Everyone was saying he'd caused the accident and was at fault. Ansel had already figured that out apparently, even though he'd been unconscious through most of it.

"He's okay. He had some second degree burns from climbing out of his car but that's it. He was lucky."

              Ansel nodded.

"Good. I always liked the little bastard."

              She laughed.

"Are you sure you are alright? I thought you hated him."

"Nah. He's reckless and wild but I like him fine. Reminds me of myself at that age."

"You're not an old man yet."

He turned to look at her.

"But I'd like to be. So racing is out huh?"

              She nodded.

              "For now anyway."

              He sighed.

"Maybe it's for the best. I have some other things I'd rather be doing with my time."

              She smiled.

"I hope they involve me and a bed."

              He laughed.

"You know it sweetheart. Or a chair. Or a stool. Maybe a bathtub… kitchen counter…"

She stopped him, leaning down to kiss his lips.

              "I love you Ansel."

"I love you too sugar britches."

She was laughing as she kissed him through the tears.

One year later

Ansel rocked the cradle softly with his elbow as he strummed his guitar. He was working on a new song and Jasmine seemed to like it when he played. She cooed softly as he altered the melody slightly. The label was breathing down his neck, eager for the next hit.

In the wise words of his beautiful wife, they could wait.

He'd already given them a whole album full of hits. His first record had gone platinum so fast it made his head spin. So he definitely was not in a rush. More importantly, he wanted to enjoy this time at home with his new wife and child. Just over three months ago, Denise had given birth to a beautiful baby girl.

He could hear her in the kitchen of their new house, chatting with Gran while they whipped up something delicious. They'd both agreed that moving down to Virginia Beach to be near Gran was a good idea, especially with a baby on the way. The two women had hit it off immediately, just as he'd known they would.

Gran knew a good egg when she saw one.

              So did he apparently.

He leaned over to jot down the chord structure he was playing with. The song was already taking shape in his mind. The record company might get what they were after sooner than they thought.

After all, Ansel had all the inspiration he needed, right here at home.

Turned out the old saying was true. Home was where the heart was.

All the other parts he liked too.

Denise came in to check on him and he smiled, eyeing all those parts with glee. Since having the baby, she'd gotten even sexier if that was possible.

              "How's our angel?"

"She's deciding whether or not she wants a nap or not."              "She is huh?"

He nodded solemnly, setting his guitar down and pulling her into his lap.

"She also told me she wants a little brother. Or sister. As soon as possible."

              "Oh really? That's fascinating."

He pulled her top down a little, nibbling at the top of her breasts.

              "I thought so too."

"Ansel! Your Gran is in the next room!"

"So? She knows where babies come from."

              He grinned at her.

"She's the one who told me about the birds and bees."

Denise slid her arms around his neck.

"Alright Mr. Sex Education. We can go for number two. But later. Not with company in the house!"

He grinned and set her on her feet.

              "Ansel, where are you going?"

"I'm going to tell Gran to take a walk around the block."

              His wife looked shocked.

              "You wouldn't!"

"What? She's the one who's demanding more grandchildren!"

              "I thought it was Jasmine."

"Her too. It's hard to keep up with all their demands."

He grinned and went to have a chat with Gran. Five minutes later she'd conveniently gone out for supplies.

And he got what he was after.

Yes sir, he was a lucky man.
