Without hesitation, his lips were over the wound, and he licked away the blood. Kai took the penknife and made a cut over his heart. Jasper smiled at him before leaning down. “I take what you offer and make you mine.” His tongue licked the thin line of blood.

Just like it was described in the mating book, Kai could feel their life forces being tied together. He and Jasper’s destinies were bound.

Sighing, happily as he hugged Jasper close. “My mate.” The label tasted good in his mouth. Jasper belonged to him, and he belonged to Jasper.

“My mate,” Jasper growled and kissed him fully on the mouth. “Now about those virginities. Neither one of us has had relations while being mated.”

They consummated their mated status slowly. Jasper suggested they do it again just to make sure it worked. Kai quickly agreed.

Epilogue

Kai was happily mated. His life with Jasper wasn’t what he expected—it was so much better. He was going to be taking some general education classes for the spring term. He hadn’t declared a major yet, but Jasper reminded him that he had all the time in the world to decide. His cousin, now almost eighteen, was adjusting well to his change in circumstances, so there was nothing to feel anxious about, but Kai couldn’t shake the feeling something was going to make his world unsettled.

Tonight, Jasper was counseling a new zombie. Kai’s classes didn’t start for another couple of weeks, so he volunteered to cover half of Corey’s shift. Kai had just brought Ulrich and Alex sodas from the bar. By law, they shouldn’t really be here, but they could scoot by that ordinance with the tiny restaurant Beau had opened.

Ulrich would sit there night after night with Alex just watching the door until the bouncer would kick them out as the regulars started to come in. It was like the kid was waiting for something. Or someone. Whenever Kai asked who did he think was coming in the door, Ulrich would never answer, so eventually Kai stopped asking, but he couldn’t stop himself from keeping a close eye on him.

Alex had become much less shy since Ulrich became his dorm mate. His cousin’s warmth and openness had that effect on people. Kai was just thrilled his cousin was here and there had been no trouble from his uncle. Beau and Lafayette both assured them they had long-term visas and if they chose to they could become naturalized citizens. Although as time passed and they didn’t age they would have to resort to doctoring the records, but they had that all worked out so Kai wasn’t concerned.

He checked his watch. Sighing, he realized he still had some time before Jasper would be here. His heart raced a little bit with excitement at the thought of seeing his mate. The time they spent together was a perfect combination of being with his best friend and the best person he knew. The fact that Jasper did things to him that made him lose his mind still made him blush.

Something drew Kai’s eyes to his cousin, who popped up just looking at the door. The front door of the club opened abruptly, and two young guys sauntered in. They must have been of age because they got past Taylor, who was carding tonight. He watched his cousin move across the floor with Alex in tow.

He moved to the other side of the bar not because he was nosy, but because he was concerned and the tables needed wiping down. He had never seen Ulrich approach anyone before tonight.

“Hi. Welcome to Club Zombie.” Kai could hear Ulrich’s cheerful voice cut through the light crowd.

He got a ‘Hey’ from one of the guys and the other just stared at him with big dark eyes rimmed in liner.

Poor Ulrich looked back at Alex, who was no help. The boy looked like a deer in the highlights of a Mack truck. His cousin looked like he was racking his brain for something to say. “Um, first time here?”

The talkative one answered, “Yeah. Heard a guy could get
some
pretty easily here.” He seemed to be eye-fucking Alex ten ways to Sunday.

Alex looked away primly trying to leave, but Ulrich’s hand on his wrist kept him in place. He sniffed and turned to glare at the guy like a haughty Elfin Prince. “Go in back if you want to get laid.” Alex tugged his hand away from Ulrich and stomped back to their table.

Kai had never seen the pretty male act like that. He was in quite a huff.

“Hey, what’s wrong with your girlfriend over there?” The jackass seemed to not be able to keep the interest out of his voice.

To Kai, the kid sounded like a real jerk. Maybe he should have him removed. But Ulrich’s interest seemed to be on the quiet one in all black, so he ignored the question.

“So what’s your name?” The quiet one actually spoke finally making eye contact with Ulrich.

The kid beamed. “Ulrich Bauer. What’s yours?” He must have felt like he had gotten a win making the Goth boy ask a question.

Kai heard the smart-ass answer for both of them. “I’m Storm, and he’s Cutter.”

“Cutter.” Ulrich repeated it like it was an enchanted word as he blushed. “Um, you wanna sit with us?”

Cutter looked at Storm and back at Ulrich. He nodded. Ulrich led them over to the table.

It was probably because his attention was so focused on the group of young ones across the bar that Jasper was able to sneak up on him. “Hey, I love you.”

Kai jumped and almost fell over the table he was wiping down. “You startled me.” He beamed at hearing Jasper say those three little words. Kai wanted to hear them again and again as if they didn’t use them every time they saw each other they would lose them. “And I love you.” Kai kissed his mate but immediately refocused on the group at the table.

Jasper’s eyes followed Kai’s over to the table his cousin was sitting at. His mate asked some very good questions. “What’s going on? Who’s that?”

Kai’s only response was “Trouble.”
