I walked into my condo and found Maddie sleeping peacefully on the couch. Her phone was resting on her chest, and she had the remote in the other hand. She looked so peaceful, that I didn’t want to disturb her, so I lifted her feet and sat down. I closed my eyes feeling so stressed about this situation with the Jamaicans. Those ugly muthafuckas’ had balls of steel. How could he harm such a beautiful person like, Maddie? Since meeting her, all she wanted was to be treated with care and affection. I rubbed the burn on her leg and my blood boiled again. If I didn’t want to disrespect Lance’s club, I would have took out all those Jamaicans with one bullet.

“Hey, when did you get in?” She yawned, and sat up.

“A little while ago, why you not in the bed?”

“I was waiting up for you. This place is so huge, I wanted see you when you came in.”

“You don’t have to worry about me not coming in, habibi. Long as you’re here, I’ll be home every night. You hear me?” I kissed her lips and she rubbed my face.

“I hear you, but I can’t help to think what’s going to happen with Jared.”

“Don’t worry about that, bae. You need to worry about yourself. You been living for that nigga, and it’s time to live for yourself.”

She looked unsure, but it was my place to keep drilling it in her head. I didn’t want her living for anybody, but herself. “Can I tell you something?”

              “What’s up?”
“I appreciate you for saving me,” She whispered.

“Nah, I appreciate you for opening my heart,” I kissed her lips and looked into her face. She laid back, and I got on top of her and parted her legs. I loved those thick thighs and tight pussy. She kissed me over and over again, as tears came out her eyes. For the first time, I was making love to someone.

“Prisoner, go take your shower,” the guard ordered, and I went into the shower stalls, fully dressed.

I scanned the shower stalls and heard a nigga singing at top of his lungs to reggae, like he was in a resort, instead of a prison. I knew it was the nigga I was looking for. I opened the curtain and stabbed the shank into his back.

“Arghhh! What de’ fuck?” He hollered, but I didn’t let him continue.

I stabbed the shank into his throat and continued to puncture it over and over again, until he was lying on the floor soaking in his own blood. I dipped out the showers and the C.O ushered me through the back doors and to the room I had changed into. After I changed my clothes, I handed him a stack and was let out the prison doors. I hopped into my Ashton Martin and took off toward Jaeshawn’s crib.

That nigga Jared had to be a dumb man to think I would let him get away with intimidating my baby, while he was in prison. Dread had these nigga’s mind all scrambled. The nigga had her scared to move on with her life, because of what she feared he would do. That was one less nigga down, and now I had to deal with his mysterious nigga, Dread. I didn’t know who the fuck he was, but I needed to find him and introduce him to my gun.

I walked into Jae’s condo, and Maddie and Tiara were sitting on the balcony drinking, while the babies were resting in a playpen near the door. Jaeshawn was sitting on the couch, with the TV watching him.

“Wake the fuck up, nigga,” I slapped his legs from the ottoman.

“Nigga, I’m tried as shit. I don’t know how Tiara do that shit with two babies. I was up all night with just one.” he stretched and yawned.

“Nigga, women are super heroes. I handled that, though,” I said, speaking in code.

“The only nigga I know that’s willing to go into prison to get the job done.”

I laughed and went to make a drink in the kitchen. “Nigga, I aint never saw myself loving someone, but with her…. it’s just different.”

              “I feel you,” He agreed.

“I know you feeling, Tiara. You taking care of babies and shit,” I joked. “Where little man?”

“He’s with my mother. She wanted to spend some time with him. Kaysha always on her shit. She forwarded me the confirmation to her doctor appointment me this morning.”

“Damn, I feel bad for you. Going through this, again. You know she about to go in, nigga.”

“You already know. I’m thinking we need to get away. She’s about to go on spring break, and I want to show her the Miami crib. Spend some time, shop and get fucked up. Plus it’s your birthday, I know you about to go in.”

“I was going to throw at party at
Truce
, but I’ll do something in Miami. We got that meeting down there too,” I reminded him. I was like his personal assistant, that nigga never remembered anything.

“Ight, cool...” I nodded and we slapped hands. I got up and headed toward the door. “Where you going?”

“I got some shit to handle.”

“You better put her on, nigga.”

“I got you.” And with that, I went to go handle business.

Tiara

I sat in my last class of the day with my mind on everything else, but my work. I couldn’t believe that my apartment was set in flames, and the fire department is blaming it on electrical damage. I would have believed it, but Dyron called before I pulled on my block warning me. If it wasn’t one thing, it sure was another. I told him not to involve me or my kids in whatever he had going with Dread, but did he listen? Hell no, he does the complete opposite, and then calls and warns. Thankfully, I had my mother and Jaeshawn. I had been staying with my mother with the girls. She was off work and had the girls during the day while I was at school. It had been three weeks since my apartment was sent into flames. Although I was salty about my apartment, I was happy that we were in March, and this was the last week and then I’ll be on spring break. That didn’t mean I was off from school, I still had a lot of things to make up, so I could graduate in time.

“Tiara, did you hear the question?” The professor asked me, I looked up and shook my head.

              “I’m sorry, I didn’t hear,” I apologized.

“You want to be a lawyer correct?”

              “Yes, Ma’am.”

“You only get once change to convince a jury,” She spat, and turned to the next student.

All I could do was roll my eyes, because she was right. I had to block all these distractions out my life. I needed to focus on finishing school and concentrating. My phone buzzed and I looked down at my phone.

Jaeshawn: I’ll be a little late to pick you up, got caught up.

Me: Cool, I’ll take the train. I need to relieve my mama of the twins.

Jaeshawn: Nah, I’ll be ten minutes late, the least.

Me: I could be on the train by then. I’m cool, talk to you later.

After I sent that text message, I powered my phone off and concentrated on the work that I had been neglecting for the past fifteen minutes. I wanted to make something of myself, and my daughters so I needed to focus on that. Jaeshawn was cool, but I couldn’t let a man deter me from the plan I had etched in my brain.

                                                                      ______

I walked into my mother’s house after my long train ride home. I got so used to Jaeshawn chauffeuring me around that I hated taking public transportation. The nice weather was coming, and my allergies were all over the place. My mother was in the kitchen, and my babies were on the floor on their stomach. I kissed both their chubby cheeks and went into the kitchen with my mother.

“Hey mama, what you doing?” I kissed her cheek, and sat down at the table.

“Hey, baby. Making us some dinner. You know, Tiara, I wouldn’t mind you and the babies living here fulltime. I have nothing but room,” She randomly bought up.

“Mommy, I have to live alone, although I like being home. We’ll be here for a while, since I have to save some money to get us a new place, and furniture. Especially, since I have to find another job,” I decided to slip that in.

“Whoa, another job? What happened?” she lowered the fire under the pots.

“Jaeshawn doesn’t want me to work there. He said he doesn’t feel right with his woman working there.” I shrugged my shoulders.

“Well, I never agreed with working in a club, but it was bringing money for you and the babies. When am I going to meet this man? Yall a couple now, but I haven’t met him?”

“Ma, calm down,” I laughed and popped a piece of candy into my mouth. “It’s new, and if you want to meet him, I’ll set that up. He’s a good guy, and his mother raised him right.”

“You met his mother? Lord, Tiara I can’t keep up with you,” She laughed and sat down across from me.

“She owns the daycare that the babies go to. She’s really nice.”

“I’m sure, what’s going on with the dumb asses?” She asked, referring to Bre and her mother.

“I have no clue, and I could care less. She better not come around if she knows what’s good for her. I want to beat that bitch’s ass too bad,” I vented, still obviously upset.

“I’m not surprised that Bre’s childish ass did that, but I’m shocked her mother didn’t put a stop to it. If that was you, I would have slapped your ass for even thinking it.”

Jaeshawn: I’m outside, I wanna see you pretty

I looked down at the text message and smiled. My mother looked at me through slanted eyes, and I had to cover my phone. “Why you so nosey, ma?” I joked. “I’ll be right back.”

“No you not, I’m coming to meet this man that got my daughter floating on a cloud. Any man that encourages you to finish school, I want to meet. Lord knows Dyron didn’t make going to school easy for you.” She walked behind me and scooped up Pride, and I grabbed Joy.

Jaeshawn was leaning against his car and typing on his phone. When he noticed my mother come out the house behind me, he leaned up and fixed the black polo sweater he was rocking. I stood on my tippy toes and gave him a kiss on his cheek, and he bent down and kissed me and Joy’s forehead. My mother came and stood right next to me, and he leaned down and kissed Pride’s forehead.

“How are you, my name is Jaeshawn,” He extended his hand, and she shifted the baby and accepted the gesture.

“Pamela, how are you?” She sized him up, I knew she was going to have a million questions for me, when I got back in the house.

“I’m hanging in there, how are you?”

“Between working and helping with my grandbabies, I’m doing pretty well. I’ll go inside, and give yall some time. Don’t be a stranger, Mr. Jaeshawn,” She winked, and took Joy from me and went into the house.

He held his hands out and I fell into his embrace, he bent down and poked his lips out, and I had no problem showing them love. “I missed your ass today,” He moaned, as he gently bit down on my lip.

              “I did too,” I admitted.

“Oh, really? Why you turn your phone off, and head home on the train anyway?” He raised an eyebrow, I blushed, because he was so damn cute.

I stepped back on the sidewalk and crossed my arms. “You can’t take me everywhere. I have to take the train and bus like I’ve been doing. I don’t want you cutting your life short to drive me places.”

“I’m not cutting shit short, when I’m done, I’m done. Simple as that. I don’t want you traveling by yourself. Especially with the twins.”

“That’s what I was doing when I met you; you forgot?” I smiled, being a smart ass.

“That’s different, you weren’t my woman, now you are and I can’t have you traveling on public transportation. Fuck Larry Bird look like having his chick on the train?” He looked truly disgusted, I laughed because he was so full of himself.

“Whatever, Larry Bird,” I mocked, “what you getting into tonight?”

He pulled me back into him, and I laid my head against his chest and looked into his eyes. “I want to take you out to a dinner I was invited to,” He smiled.

“A dinner? I’m not dressed and my hair isn’t done,” I complained, “Can we do dinner, somewhere else?”

“Nah, I have to show up, baby. I’ll pick you up at ten tonight,” He ordered.

“Ugh, you are so damn bossy. See you later,” I smiled.

He kissed me, and made his way to the driver’s side. “You love it though,” He smirked.

I waved him off, and walked up the stairs, making sure to put an extra pep in my step. “Keep switching like that and we’re going to have a problem.”

I turned around and blew him a kiss, and went into the house. My mother was looking out the window being nosey as usual. “Busted, why you so nosey?” I giggled.

She walked over to the kitchen and took a bottle of wine and two cups out. “Baby girl, I think you might have hit the jackpot, and I’m not talking about money either,” She poured a cup, and took a sip before handing me mine.

“What are you talking about?” I naïvely replied.

“I got a good vibe from him, and I watched how he acted after I left yall. He got that twinkle in his eyes. I’m telling you now, that man is feeling the hell out of you.”

The doorbell rang, so I went to answer it. Standing there was two women, with suitcases. I looked around them confused. “Can I help yall?”

“We’re the dashing dolls, a travel salon. Mr. Bird has booked two hours of pampering for you and your mother. Can we come in?”

I don’t even know why I was surprised, because he never seemed to surprise me anymore. I allowed them in, and told my mother and she was smiling. “I told you, he’s in love,” she smiled. “Alright ladies. I need yall to whip this hair into shape, I have a date tomorrow.”

“Who you going on a date with mama?”

“This grown folks business, baby girl,” She laughed and sat in the kitchen chair.

I laughed as we talked about everything under the sun, and got our hair and makeup done. I found out that the two girls were Jaeshawn’s cousins and owned a mobile hair salon that was known throughout Jersey. They made a special trip just to get me right. I couldn’t front like I didn’t feel special.
