She snuggled into his arms. “We need to get up … the cow needs milking, the eggs need to be collected,
the animals need feeding-”
“Yes … ” Bilal yawned. A moment later he was fast asleep.
Carmella yawned and decided that they could use a quick nap and soon she fell asleep as well.

Much later the
two new lovers finally made their way from the bedroom and went about the task of tending to their chores. Carmella carried her fussy son on her hip. His new tentacles provided a great deal of distraction for him as he gnawed and drooled over his new limbs.
As she bathed him she examined the new limbs thoroughly. Like Bilal’s his tentacles were grey and very reminiscent of a snake except that the tip held an opening, which she knew could produce a deadly sharp talon. She wondered if it was safe for him to play with it and decided that she would ask Bilal. She got him diapered and then dressed him in a set of new clothes that they had found the day before.
As she pulled on the coveralls she wondered why she had never noticed how big he had gotten. The coveralls were for nine month olds and he nearly fit them perfectly. Yes, she knew that due to her son’s Centaurian DNA he was bigger than the average baby. But what she did not expect was for him to continue growing at such a rapid rate.
Carmella’s head began to ache as she tried to sort through all of the things that needed to be dealt with. She’d have to talk to Bilal about Raj. Then there
was the events of yesterday …
The foul memory of Sonny, Earl and Ma was one that she couldn’t handle right now, so she stared at the items that she and Bilal had collected from yesterday’s shopping trip. Bilal had already emptied the truck of their new bounty and it was all sitting in the living room waiting for her to put into their proper places. She decided to feed Raj once again before she tackled the pile of provisions. She sat on the chaise and slipped her breast from her bra and offered it to her son. He had been fussy earlier in the day when she had tried giving him a late breakfast and it took him a while to accept her breast.
This time he accepted it readily enough as he concentrated on his tentacle. She kissed his curls and smiled at her beautiful baby boy. And then he chomped down on her nipple and she yowed.
“Whoa Raj!” She pulled her tender breast from his mouth while he looked at her in alarm. His little face screwed up as if he would cry but she kissed his forehead and then placed her forefinger into his mouth and felt his gums.
Oh my God. He’s teething! Three month olds did not teeth …
The door swung open suddenly and Bilal was standing there flanked by three wolves. His eyes latched onto hers and only then did he appear to relax.
“Why did you yell?”
Big wolf and
Li’l wolf followed him into the house while Girl stayed stationed on the porch stairs as if she was trained to make sure no one would breach the entrance.
“You heard that?” Of course he’d heard it. She slipped her breast back into her shirt. “Bilal we need to talk about Raj. He just bit me—with teeth.”
Bilal slipped off heavy duty gloves and his new parka and tossed them onto the end of the chaise. He gave her a confused look while his son strained forward to be picked up by him. He scooped him up and Raj gripped a small fistful of his hair and immediately put it into his mouth.
Carmella couldn’t help but to pause at how beautiful they looked together; Bilal wearing jeans, boots and a thermal t-shirt holding his curly haired son who looked enough like both of them that it was spooky.
She stood up and grew serious again. “Bilal he’s two months old. Look how big he is.”
Raj spared her a curious look before he continued with his exploration of his father’s hair, quickly covering his little fist in baby drool.
Bilal’s brow rose in confusion. “I know very little about human babies. Human’s rarely allowed Centaurians access to their off-spring.” There was plenty of data concerning every imaginable topic of human existence but it was uploaded to the Mothership and he had never been particularly interested in the topic.
Until now.
How stupid of him not to have learned every aspect of the developmental phases of a child before impregnating Carmella with a hybrid life form? His rapid development had nearly killed her when she carried him. Why would he think that it would just stop after birth?
He frowned and hefted his son into his arms and looked into his eyes, examining him visually.
“Raj, do you want to play a game?” Bilal asked simply. Raj turned his attention to his father. “What is my name?”
Raj grinned. “Dada! Blaaablaa!”
Carmella felt her heartbeat quicken.
Bilal gestured to her. “Who is that?”
“Mommy.” He said clearly. Carmella’s eyes widened but she also felt a proud smile tugging at her mouth.
“What’s your name?” Bilal continued.
“
Rajie.”
Carmella beamed with pure love and pride for her baby boy.
Bilal looked at Carmella but he seemed far from happy. Her smile slipped away. “What’s wrong?”
“I have to stop this progression. It’s too fast. He’s developing like a Centaurian … but he doesn’t have a Centaurian’s lifespan.”
“What?” She whispered, a chill traveling down her spine.
“When he’s five years old it will be as if he’s fifteen years old. Do you understand? This rapid growth is taking years from Raj’s life.”
