Chapter Fifteen

Jess

I straightened the jacket on my pants suit while I waited for the attorney in their conference room. From what I'd seen, it was a nice office, taking up an entire floor of the tall building, with fifteen lawyers practicing various areas of law. I'd googled Joseph Montgomery and knew he was an up and coming criminal defense attorney. I was a little hesitant to work for a man that defended criminals, but when they called and asked me to come in today, after I’d just sent in my resume, I figured I was crazy not to give it a shot.

"Ms. Dodson, sorry to keep you waiting," the young man in the grey business suit said when he came into the room and shut the door. He was handsome and tall with jet black hair and blue eyes, and seemed pleasant enough. The man also seemed very familiar. He looked like Orlando Bloom, but it was more than that. Oh shit!

"Mr. Montgomery, thank you for meeting with me. I was really excited to hear about your opening," I stood up and shook his hand before sitting back down in my chair across the table from him.

"Good. So, tell me about your prior experience."

"Well, I don't really have any, but I'm looking for a new career and am eager to learn."

"Oh. Sorry but I haven't had a chance to review your resume. Where are you currently working?"

"I've been an exotic dancer at Infinity's for the past three years." I waited for him to throw me out. Instead he reached to loosen his tie, and swallowed deeply.

"Is that so?"

"Yes. And although it is not direct experience, I do work with a wide range of individuals, professionally and courteously in a fast paced environment."

"Y-yes, I bet you do. What led you to enter such a field Ms. Dodson?"

"When I was seventeen I moved out of my parents' house with my younger brother. We've been living on our own ever since."

"Tough home life?"

"You could say that."

"Well, I was hoping to find someone that at least had law office experience, but I want to take a chance on you. You seem like a determined, reliable woman, and I commend you on trying to branch out and start a more … respectable career. So when can you start?"

I couldn't help the smile from spreading across my face. "Really? You're going to hire me even though I don’t have any office experience?"

"Yes. On one condition."

"Anything."

"I won't tell anyone here where you previously worked, if you won't tell them you've seen me there."

I laughed and held out my hand to shake his. "Deal."

"So, now let's discuss salary and benefits. What were you making at the club in a week?"

"Oh, well, I worked Thursday through Sunday and usually averaged about a thousand a weekend."

"Wow. No wonder you worked there for so long…and you get the whole week off!"

"Yeah it was a pretty good deal, but not having weekends off to hang out with my brother or friends was the down side."

"Of course. I can't quite compete with that, but the firm's set aside forty thousand a year for me to hire an assistant, plus health insurance, life insurance, 401K disbursement, and twelve days of paid vacation, with all the holidays off. Also, there's potential for raises every six months."

"Oh my God, that is even better than I was hoping. How soon does the insurance start?"

"Right away. We have a great plan here, it's actually one of the few that's one hundred percent covered by the firm."

"That's great, but that brings me to something I feel I should be upfront with you about before I accept. The reason I'm leaving Infinity's is because I'm pregnant."

"Oh. Well, employment laws say I can't ask you about that, but thank you for telling me. I also wouldn't withhold a job from someone on such a basis. How far along are you if you don’t mind me asking?"

"About seven or eight weeks."

"So we've got plenty of time to train you, and then have you train a replacement while you're on maternity leave."

"You're okay with that?" I asked, almost tearing up. "This sounds almost too good to be true."

"You know why I went into criminal defense? Most people ask me how I can sleep at night defending nasty criminals. But you know what I say to them? Everyone makes mistakes, and sometimes all people need to change their life is a second chance. A fresh start. And the individuals that work the hardest for that chance are the ones that always succeed. I believe you, Ms. Dodson, have a great deal of potential and only need the opportunity to do something with it. So what do you say, you ready to help me defend some criminals?"

I nodded since I couldn't yet speak.

"Great. So when can you start?"

"Tomorrow, if that's okay?"

"Tomorrow is perfect. I was hoping to fill the spot ASAP. I have an attempted murder case coming up for trial in a month, so the sooner I get some help the better."

"Alright. So I'll see you at eight a.m.?"

"I'm not really a morning person, so let's say your hours will be nine to five with half an hour for lunch whenever you decide to take it each day."

"Great. Wow, this is … I'm so excited."

"Me too. I think we're going to be a great team. I'm really glad Mr. Reavis referred you. The kid is a genius. See you tomorrow Ms. Dodson."

"Thank you so much Mr. Montgomery."

"Call me Joe," he said, then he breezed out the door.

As soon as I got back to my car I found Will's number and called him. After it had started ringing I realized he was probably at work but then he answered anyway.

"Jess? Hey what's up?"

"I got the job!"

"That's awesome! Congratulations. No, wait, I take that back. This sucks. I won't get to see you naked anymore."

I laughed. "Thank you so much for telling me about this place. The attorney is such a nice guy."

"Yeah, Joe is pretty cool. So we should definitely celebrate tonight. Want to call Lauren, Caleb and Tyler and I'll call Dylan?"

"Um, okay," I replied, unsure about how I felt inviting Tyler, and wondering if things would be weird with Dylan. "And I'd like to ask my brother too."

"Yeah sure. Oh, I almost forgot. Is there a reason you lied to Tyler about not keeping the baby?"

"How did you ...? You are too smart and perceptive for your own good, you know that?"

He laughed but didn't respond, waiting for my answer. "I don't want him to be with me out of a sense of duty or responsibility, you know?"

"I figured it was something like that. So how are you planning to hide your bump? You've got what, a few months before he notices?"

"Actually more like weeks," I told him, rubbing my hand on the bulge that was growing every day. "I'm having twins."

"Holy fuck!"

"Yeah, that sums it up."

"Shit, Jess. That's … wow. Are you okay with everything?"

"Yeah, I am. I just got an awesome job where I keep my clothes on and get weekends off. I have full insurance to pay for doctor visits. What else could I want?"

"How about a man to wake up and realize what's right in front of him?"

"Yeah," I sighed. "And I'm running out of time."

"Don't give up on him yet. He'll come around. And I know he's crazy about you because he almost killed Dylan last night."

"Oh God! What happened?"

"Tyler showed up at my apartment mad as hell. He slammed Dylan against the wall and told him he'd beat the shit out of him if he ever touched you again. He went off on me for texting you. The guy has it bad, Jess."

"Right. He's still not over Lauren, and he thinks I don’t give a shit about him because of the other night with Dylan. But he didn't even give me a chance to explain."

"We did. We told him it didn't mean anything and it just sort of happened. I'm betting your pregnancy hormones have got you all jacked up, but I didn't tell him that. Anyway, what's done is done. So where should we meet tonight to celebrate?"

"Tonight’s Monday night football so that only leaves one choice, Buffalo Wild Wings."

"Hell yes. See you all about seven-thirty?"

"Yeah, that’d be great. Thanks again, Will. I owe you."

"Just find me a woman half as amazing as you and Lauren and I'll be a happy man."

I laughed and hung up to call Lauren.

"Hey, Jess."

"Hey, girl. What are you and your fine man that can't keep a secret doing tonight? Besides each other?"

She laughed on the other side of the phone. "Nothing, why?"

"Would you like to go out tonight and celebrate my new job with me?"

"What? You've got a new job? When? Where?"

"I'll fill you in tonight. B-Dubs at seven-thirty?"

"Awesome, we can get a good table before the game starts."

"Hey, um, could you do me a favor?"

"Yeah, sure."

"Could you call and see if Tyler wants to come? We're not on the best speaking terms but I don't want to leave him out."

"Sure. Things not going so well?"

"Not as well as I hoped they'd be. He's still understandably upset about the non-abortion and my lack of trust or something, and I sort of messed around with Dylan. I can't help but feel like he's not quite …"

"Over me," she interjected with a sigh.

"Yeah."

"I'm sorry. I hate how I hurt him, and wish he could see that you and he could really work. And what the hell did you do with Dylan?"

"Ugh. I'll explain it all tonight," I told her then we hung up.

Tyler didn’t show, and I hated the disappointment I felt because of his absence.

Chapter Sixteen

Jess

The rest of the week I was busy from the moment I stepped into the office until the second I left. The next week was the same. Joe and some of the other assistants were showing me the ropes, getting me used to the computer system, and explaining the criminal justice system to me. I had a lot to learn.

My mind was still on work Tuesday afternoon when the blue lights and siren came on behind me.

What the hell? I wasn’t speeding and my inspection was current. I pulled over slowly into an old abandoned warehouse lot near my apartment and turned off my car. I was already digging in my purse for my driver's license when the officer knocked on the window, making me jump.

"Fuck, Tyler! You scared the shit out of me," I told him, when I looked up and saw him through the glass. I was still holding my chest to keep my heart from jumping out. Then all other thoughts fled my mind as I looked up at the sexiest man alive, all hot and authoritative in his uniform.

"I'm going to have to ask you to step out of the car, miss," he ordered and my jaw dropped. What was his problem? I hadn't heard from him in over a week and now he pulls me over and acts like a jackass.

I reached for the door handle and climbed out. I'd step out and give him a piece of my mind, alright. After closing my door behind me I pointed a finger at his chest, but he grabbed my arm, and spun me around until I was face front against my car.

"Hey! What the hell are you doing?" I yelled.

"Do you have any weapons or sharp objects on you?"

"What? No! Does it look like this skirt could hold any objects?"

He tugged on my other hand and then I felt the cold metal just before I heard the click of handcuffs closing around them.

"I'm going to have to do a thorough search, just to be sure."

"Tyler! This is not funny. I don't know who the hell you think you are …
Oh!
"

His foot swept one of my high heels, widening my stance and spreading my legs further apart. Suddenly both of his big hands rubbed down to the shoe straps around my ankles, then back up the inside of my thighs, brushing against my sex. That quick hand of his stayed between my legs, teasing me through my panties that were starting to become damp. He reached up to the front of them and gave them a jerk, making me gasp when he tore them completely off of me. Once I was open to him his finger penetrated my entrance then spread the wetness over my swollen, sensitive clit.

"Oh my God. Tyler, someone might see us!"

"I didn't gave you permission to speak."

Another finger joined with his first one, rubbing gently up and down my slit, then pressing into my opening, driving me insane. Tyler's heavy body moved in against my back, forcing me flat against the side of my car. His free hand untucked my dress shirt from my skirt and started inching toward my breasts.

With my hands cuffed behind my back I could feel Tyler's hard cock, pushing against his zipper. I reached to stroke his length, pulling a moan from his lips that I felt breeze through my hair.

"Now, I'm sure a nice girl like you doesn't want to get arrested tonight. So, what do you say we work something out, just between the two of us?" he asked, brushing his lips against my ear, and pushing his cock harder into my hands.

My breaths had become shallow, and I was right on the verge of coming as I rocked against his nimble fingers.

"Well, how do you plan on convincing me to let you go?" he asked while he fucked me harder with his fingers, and squeezed my sensitive breast.

"Oh God. I'll do anything you want," I finally moaned.

"Anything?" he repeated then placed an opened mouth kiss on my neck and sucked, pushing me over the edge. My body bucked between his and the car through the orgasm, and my knees started to feel weak.

"Oh, so you don't want to stand up anymore, huh?" he asked pulling his hand out from under my shirt.

"I-I can't."

"Then get down on your knees, open that pretty little mouth of yours, and wrap your lips around my cock," he ordered with a tug on the back of my hair. I didn’t think I'd ever been so turned on.

I was soaking wet between my legs when I turned around to face him, then went down on my knees. The pavement wasn't the most comfortable kneeling place, but I was too aroused to care.  Now I also knew why Tyler wasn't too concerned about anyone seeing us. His cruiser was parked beside my car, blocking us from the view of the few passing vehicles on the back road near my apartment.

With my hands cuffed behind me, I stretched up and caught his zipper in my teeth then worked it down.

"Oh fuck, woman," he groaned, before reaching into his pants and pulling out his swollen cock. I brushed a light kiss across the tip and looked up at him. His eyes were still covered by the sexy aviator glasses, and his lips were parted as he watched me.

"You're going to have to work harder than that to get out of this mess, baby. Now put my cock in your mouth and suck it before I add resisting to your long list of misconduct."

I smiled and bit back a laugh to avoid ruining the roleplaying, then covered him with my mouth, moving up and down, getting hotter and hotter with each of his moans.

"That's it, just like that. I know you can take more than that," he said grabbing the back of my head with both hands to thrust down my throat.

I nodded slightly to tell him I could handle it, and then he went to work fucking my mouth. Just when I was sure he was about to come he pulled me off of him, reaching for my shoulders to stand me back up on my feet. I watched, still panting as he rolled on a condom before his strong hands were on me, spinning me around. I felt cool air against my bare ass when he pulled my skirt up to my hips.

"After I fuck your tight pussy so hard you won't be able to walk tomorrow, I
might
let you get off with just a warning," he said before pushing my upper body forward on the trunk of my car. Before I even let out an 'oomph' he was sliding into my dripping wet pussy. His hands were braced tightly on the back of my arms to hold me down while he pounded hard and fast into me. I was climbing higher and higher toward another orgasm until finally I came apart right before Tyler stilled deep inside of me.

"Jesus fucking Christ," he panted as he collapsed on top of my back, and I was pretty sure that signaled the game was over.

I was still having aftershocks from my orgasm it was so good. Damn, the whole thing had been fucking hot.

"Well Officer, you sure do know how to use your baton," I told him, squirming underneath him. I felt his answering chuckle vibrate through my upper body.

"Is that what you had in mind for being arrested, frisked and taken downtown by a naughty police officer?" he asked, referring to what'd I'd said to him several weeks ago when we were at the lake with Lauren and Caleb.

"God yes. Even better than all the times I'd fantasized about it while pursuing self-inflicted orgasms."

"You've gotten yourself off thinking about me doing that to you?"

"Oh yeah, ever since that day at the lake."

"I wanted you so fucking much, right then and there," he said, moving my hair to kiss my neck.

"Yeah right. Lauren was the only woman you were thinking about back then."

"No, she wasn't. I couldn't stop thinking about how damn sexy you were in that little-ass white bikini, and imagining doing everything we just did. I can already predict that I'll be jacking off to this for months, maybe years. Fuck that was good."

"You wanted me then?" I asked, surprised.

"Hell yes. And that night we were all at the club I had to have you. I didn't even think about whether or not Lauren would care, not until you asked her permission. Since that night I've wanted you, not her. I may have come over to your apartment the night she ended things because I was upset, but I wanted to be with you because you make me forget all about her. Not just sex with you, but you," he said, lowering my skirt, then wrapping his arms around my waist again.

"But, you won't even look at me."

"It sure as hell isn't because I'm pretending you're her or anyone else. It's because I'm just not ready to … I don't know, be that close and get hurt all over again, if that makes sense."

"You said you weren't over her."

"I'm not over being rejected, but that night at Shooters she didn't even cross my mind. From the time I got there I only wanted you. Then I kissed you, and you pushed me away to flirt with my friends the rest of the night."

"I though you just kissed me to make Lauren jealous."

"What? Fucking you in front of Lauren didn't make her jealous, so why would I try making her jealous by kissing you? I was jealous of you flirting with Will and Dylan. I couldn't stand the thought of you going home with anyone else," he said, pressing more kisses on my neck and making me shiver.

"So that night you wanted me, not just as a distraction?"

"I wanted you so bad I was ready to kick my friend's ass when he kissed you, then throw you over my shoulder and carry you to bed."

"And later when we were drunk and you …"

"Knocked you up?"

"Yeah."

"I wanted you so bad that I couldn't even think straight. I'm sorry I got so drunk and out of control with you that night. And I'm sorry that my mistake ended up causing you so much pain," he said before turning me around to face him. "But baby, it was all you then, and it's all you now. Only you. I was with you before Lauren even ended things because she wasn't enough for me. You are."

"I am?" I asked as tears rolled down my cheeks.

"Yes, damn it. I wish I hadn't waited so long to tell you. Then maybe you wouldn't have screwed around with Dylan."

"I'm sorry. I didn't think I was anything to you but a stand in for Lauren, and it felt good to actually be wanted."

"I. Want. You," he said emphasizing each word with a kiss, the last of which was deep and seeking with his tongue and mine wrapped around each other.

"Shit," he said pulling away and spinning me around. "Sorry. I forgot to take the handcuffs off."

I laughed. "I don't mind the handcuffs at all, and I'd really like to do that again."

"Was I too rough?"

"Rough is awesome. Definitely not too rough."

"Good," he said releasing the handcuffs.

When I turned around and looked up at him his smile was smug, and by God, he'd earned it.

"I hate I missed your celebratory dinner last week, but I've been on the fucking six to six night shift. Congrats on the new job. You'll still strip for me though, right?" he asked, cocking his head to the side and reaching out to wipe the wetness off my face.

I laughed and nodded. "Yeah, I could probably give you a few private shows."

"Damn right. The sexy secretary outfit is fucking hot by the way, but I'm keeping your panties. So what's the new job?" he asked.

I laughed and couldn't seem to stop smiling at him. I'd missed him, and he'd just told me everything I'd always wanted him to say.

"Well, Will told me about this really nice criminal defense attorney, Joseph Montgomery, and he hired me even though I don't have any experience. He's paying me way more than I deserve with insurance and all. It's a really great opportunity."

Tyler laughed bitterly and took a step back.

"What?" I asked.

"Montgomery represents Bobby Richardson."

"Yeah, so? He represents a lot of people. Who's Bobby Richardson?"

"The asshole that shot me."

My jaw came unhinged. How fucking nuts was that?

"Oh my God!"

"Yeah, you're working for the man that's going to try and get Richardson off on self-defense, and blame the whole shooting on me being a hotheaded cop."

"Oh." I was speechless.

"I'm still on probation, and when we go to trial next month, if the jury finds the bastard not guilty because he acted in self-defense then I could lose my badge. Permanently."

"
Oh fuck
!" I covered my face unable to believe the irony. It felt like a nightmare just when everything was starting to work out between us.

"So I hope it pays well because I might have to crash at your place when Montgomery ends my career."

"Tyler, that's not fair. You don't understand. I
need
this job."

"Did you even try to find any other jobs?" he asked.

"Well, no, but this one came up and was perfect for me."

"Goddamn it," he yelled turning away from me. "Every time I start to think the two of us are good together, and can maybe have an actual relationship based on more than fucking each other, something like this happens."

"Tyler, I want us to try and make this work. Please," I begged, reaching for his arm. My throat was tightening and I tried to keep the tears from falling. He'd just said he wanted me and I couldn't bear to lose him for something as stupid as where I work. "Just forget about my job, okay?"
