For the next two weeks Jack was in court all day and Alyssa had returned to her normal duties. She was back working in her old cubicle doing much the same things that she did before the trial. The trial was going better than the firm had expected. They had managed to secure testimony from several psychiatrists who indicated that Sam Masterson was severely mentally ill and that he would be best placed in a high security facility for the criminally insane. So far it seemed as if the jury was agreeing with this as a potential sentencing arrangement.

Finally the trial was over. The jury had found Sam Masterson guilty on seven counts of murder, nineteen counts of rape and nineteen counts of kidnapping. They
agreed to accept a plea of insanity and Masterson was in fact sentenced to life in a maximum security mental health facility for the criminally insane. He would be kept in a padded cell and cared for by psychiatrists. Although he would be strictly confined, he would receive treatment and a hefty cocktail of medications. This seemed to please Sam Masterson as he told Jack that if he had to be locked up at least he would be doped up on prescription meds to the point where he either wouldn't know where he was or he wouldn't care as much. Since Sam was apparently happy with the outcome, his father was pleased as well and he thanked the firm and Jack Coleman for their service.

When Jack returned from court on the final day, he asked all of the associates and paralegals who worked on the case to come to his office for a small victory celebration. He had coffee and donuts delivered and invited everyone to relax for the last two hours of the day. Jack made a little speech in which he thanked everyone for their hard work and dedication. He told them that they had faced the impossible and managed to get their client the best possible outcome. He then stated that everyone who participated in that case would receive a small bonus in
their next week's paycheck as a thank you. This of course was in addition to the overtime pay that they were all entitled to.

Toward the end of the celebration Jack took Alyssa aside and asked her if she could stay and extra hour or two to help him file the paperwork and wrap up a few final things. Alyssa told him that she would be more than happy to stay and help. Jack thanked her and told her that he would increase her bonus if she stayed. She told Jack that it was not necessary and that she was happy to stay. That was the truth, too. Alyssa was thrilled at the idea of staying late with Jack. The idea of the two of them working together, all alone in his office was almost more than she could handle.

When everyone had left for the day, Jack and Alyssa went to his office. He told her that they needed to prepare and submit the final paperwork to the courts. Alyssa was hoping that Jack was going to take advantage of her flirtatious nature, but he handed her a stack of paperwork instead. She was disappointed, but still it was a chance to be alone with him, even if they were just working. She did take the opportunity to make small gestures, like leaning over just enough so that he could see down her shirt when she brought him completed work. He seemed to enjoy the attention, but he kept things professional despite the temptation.

When they were finally finished, Jack stretched his arms and mentioned that it had been a really hard couple of weeks for him, and then he thanked Alyssa for her help again. She walked to stand near him and she batted her eyelashes while she told him that working with him had been a real pleasure for her.

"I hope I haven't been keeping you here too late. I really do appreciate your dedication," Jack said as he turned from a stack of papers to look at Alyssa who was sitting on the edge of the desk with her legs crossed and her skirt raised to her thigh.

"No, I like staying here late, that is if it means I get to work with you," Alyssa said as seductively as she could. Then she adjusted her skirt to raise it just a little bit higher.

"See now someone might think you were coming on to me if they heard you say that," Jack said teasingly.

"Well then they would be correct," Alyssa revealed with nervousness in her voice. Jack moved closer to her when she said this. He looked down at her beautiful face and he breathed in deeply. He reached his hand out and cupped her face gently.

"Believe me I have noticed you too, but we can't act on this. It's highly inappropriate. What would people say if they found out?" As he said these words
he looked into her eyes and he gently caressed her face. He leaned forward just a bit like he wanted to kiss her but he pulled away before anything could happen. Then he cleared his throat and nervously looked about the room.

"No one has to know," Alyssa started to say but Jack shushed her. He looked at her solemnly and he told her that it would be wrong and that people would think that he brought her onto his team just because they were sleeping together. He apologized and told her that if things were only different, they could be together. Alyssa argued that a secret romance would be exceptionally hot and that she would never tell anyone about it but Jack continued to resist.

"Oh, Baby. I really, really wish that I could. You have no idea how bad I wish we could be together, but for now it is just not possible. I can invite you out for a drink though. A business drink, that is to say thank you for staying late."

Alyssa sighed and then she told him that she would take what she could get. He laughed and asked her if she had driven to work. She told him that she had been using her car while they were working on this case since they were staying late. She didn't like to ride the subway at night. Jack smiled and asked her to follow him to a hotel he knew that had a great bar.

"Now you said we couldn't do anything and now you want me to follow you to a hotel?" Alyssa asked with a twinkle in her eye. Jack blushed uncontrollably at the thought and he insisted that his intentions were honorable. Alyssa just laughed and she agreed to have drinks only at the hotel. As Alyssa followed Jack, she couldn't help but hope he would change his mind. Maybe if they had a few drinks he would decide that being with her would be worth the risk. She was certainly willing to take the chance, even if it meant risking her job.

Chapter Fourteen: Hot Hotel Sex

Alyssa followed Jack to the parking garage of their building. They went to his car first and then he drove her to where her car was parked since they were on different levels. Then Alyssa agreed to follow behind him in her car. Jack slowly drove away and she stayed right behind him, all the while she was hoping that their persistent flirting would finally lead somewhere once they were alone together and away from work.

Soon they arrived outside of an elegant and high class hotel. It had to be a five star place for sure. Alyssa had never been anywhere this fancy before. She was a little surprised when a valet offered to park her car. She was happy to let him take it, but she was a little embarrassed that her car did not fit in with the expensive cars that were there. Jack stood waiting for Alyssa at the front door and he gestured for her to walk in front of him. Alyssa was impressed with his manners, but honestly she hoped he would put aside his tendency to act like gentlemen and give into to the passion that the two of them clearly shared.

"This place is really nice, I promise," Jack said as he took her hand. Alyssa looked longingly into his eyes and flashed her most alluring smile. He returned it with a sexy smile of his own and then the two of them walked toward the hotel. Once inside they found their way to the bar. It really was a classy place and Alyssa
felt a little bit out of her element amidst the elegant decor, but Jack's welcoming demeanor helped to put her at ease. They sat down at a private booth and ordered drinks.

"So how is your mom doing?" Jack asked casually while th
ey were waiting to be served.

"Good. I've been going to visit her every Saturday. She is staying clean and keeping up with everything she is supposed to be doing. She did not testify against Trevor Barnes though, so she will serve the whole two years, but still that is a lot better than the ten of fifteen years it would have been if your friend hadn't taken her case. I don't think that I can ever thank you enough for helping her out like that," Alyssa replied just as their first round of drinks arrived.

"Have you had anymore threats from Trevor Barnes?" Jack asked. This was something he had been particularly concerned about.

"No, not since that one night. My mom never had any threats in jail either. At least not that I know of," Alyssa replied.

"That's good. I was worried about that. I can only do so much to protect her while she's in there. I've been worried about you too. I am so glad that the whole mess seems to have blown over," Jack reached out and touched Alyssa's hand as he said this. She blushed and bit her lip slightly, and then she looked at him with her best 'come hither' expression. Jack laughed nervously and then he slowly withdrew his hand and took a long sip of his drink before responding.

"If you keep flirting with me like that, you are going to get us both in trouble," he said finally.

"It would so be worth it," Alyssa said and then she ran her tongue over the straw in her drink. Jack breathed heavily as she did this and then he shifted in his seat. He looked around nervously, hoping that no one would notice that he now had a raging hard on. He was grateful that they were sitting down but he knew it would be a while before he could stand up again. So in an effort to waste time and take his mind off of sex, Jack tried to make small talk with Alyssa.

The two of them stayed at the bar for nearly two hours sharing drinks and talking about their lives. They discussed their backgrounds and their families. They talked about where they went to school and what their plans were for the future. Jack talked about growing up as the son of a prominent lawyer. He said that he always knew he would follow in his father's footsteps because his family had conditioned him to do so even from a very young age. He was sent to private school as
a child and then educated in law from about the age of twelve. He then attended Harvard and he started working as a junior associate at his father's firm immediately after graduation. His education had not ended there, as his father continued to teach him and guide him. Jack admitted that he felt a tremendous amount of pressure as a result of this, but that he valued his father's guidance as it largely attributed to his own success as an attorney.

    Alyssa talked ab
out growing up in a poor family and having to work while she was in college. She admitted to Jack that she had changed her major from journalism to paralegal studies after realizing that it was really hard to make it as a writer or a reporter. Jack told her that the skills she acquired studying journalism were beneficial because she had done an excellent job in interviewing witnesses, double checking their facts and writing her reports. He then told her that he was pleased that she became a paralegal because he considered her an asset to his team. Alyssa blushed at his praise. She was honestly afraid to admit that she was not from the same exclusive background that he had. None of that seemed to matter to Jack though as he continued to regard her with interest and warm sincerity.

After they finished talking about their backgrounds, they discussed their personal lives. Alyssa admitted that she had some bad luck in previous relationships and that she felt that she attracted a lot of men that simply weren't worth her time. She had been in quite a few relationships but that none of them were significant enough to be worth mentioning. She decided not to tell
him about her recent sexual encounters with the English surfer boy and the veracious hippy.

Jack talked about his divorce and about how crazy his ex-wife had become since their separation. He mentioned his wife's infidelity but he confided in Alyssa that the spark between them had been lost years before she started having an affair. He said that the only thing that really hurt about their breakup was the fact that they have a son together and that he was worried that his boy would be caught in the middle. Unfortunately she seemed determined to create as much drama between them as was humanly possible. He told Alyssa that this really upset him because he was trying his best to be pleasant in his interactions with his ex-wife in an effort to provide comfort and stability for his son, Jason. Alyssa told him that he must be a great father and that she was impressed by his maturity and his understanding of his child's feelings. Jack then went on to say that he had offered his wife a considerable monetary divorce settlement in exchange for an uncontested agreement of joint custody. He said that his son meant so much more to him than any amount of money. Alyssa was truly impressed by this and she couldn't help but feel even more attracted to the man when he talked about how much he loved his son.

Alyssa's feelings became too much for her to handle, or perhaps it was that she had consumed more than her fair share of alcohol, but suddenly she broke down and told Jack how she felt about him. She told him that she wasn't looking for a relationship or even a fling when she first started working at Coleman, Patters and Schleicher. She admitted that the idea of a paralegal crushing on her boss looked really bad and that some people might think that she was only trying to further her own career. She insisted that her intentions had nothing to do with work. She told him that ever since the first day they met, he is all she thinks about. She admitted that she was more sexually attracted to him than she had ever been to any other man and that even if it meant losing her job, she would give anything for just one night with him.
