Rebekah sat alone in her room for the last time. She would not be sleeping here tonight.
She wore a new black smock and a new long snow white apron, freshly ironed. Her boots had been polished for just this occasion and her hair had been braided and pinned by her mother with great care before placing on her head her new white bonnet. The new fabric felt stiff beneath her fingertips.
In just a moment, she would have to go outside. In just a moment, she would be joining the rest of the wedding party and taking her place beside her new husband.
She had known that she couldn’t stay with Leah and remain single, even if her father had permitted it—not while being with child. She and the child would be shunned and she could not fulfill her promise to God. The only way to stay with Leah was to marry the man she loathed and say goodbye to the man she loved.

She was grateful for God sending Nick to her. It had to be God, for who else could send such an angel?
She held her hand to her belly, wondering what it will be like to have his child kick lustily inside her. The contemplation of holding the
baby close to her breast by next early spring came close to overwhelming her with joy. And so it was with this thought that she joined her wedding party with a smile.
