He starts undoing my pants then his mouth drop as his hands slide my pants down my legs to the floor and he grabs my bare ass.
Cocking his head his grin turns up as he speaks, “Commando? Naughty girl you should be spanked! It’s so fucking hot.”
Blushing, I am standing pressed against the office wall in my bra and work shirt when he pulls back, holds me at arm’s length, and looks at me more closely than I would prefer.
Up and down glances with a hint of something sinful in his eyes as he leans in and whispers in my ear, “You are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. These legs, those feet, gliding his fingers over my bra to and releasing my breast, baby you are very much everything I’ve ever wanted.”
I stepped over a line I said I would never cross but this man makes me feel beautiful, smart, I feel powered by him. In this moment, I know I will never be the same person from now on I will be a stronger one.
“I have wanted you for so long and I never dreamed it would be even more than I dreamed it would. Let’s not think about what’s next let’s just think about now.” He spoke.
I laid my head on his chest and we sat for what seemed like eternity but really we had thirty minutes before our day had to begin as boss and employee. The day goes by like a blur thankfully because I don’t want to think about what I just did with a married man and I the unfaithful married woman. I smell like Chance and his smell is even more intoxicating than ever. All I want is more but I know we have to both go home to our spouses, the people that make us so unhappy. Michael probably deserves being treated like this, but what about Chance’s wife? What have I done to her marriage? Now I am the monster.
My thoughts consume me for the remainder of the evening. This poor woman and what my actions would do to her. I start to wonder what she is like and then I step into reality with my own husband. The man I vowed to love and cherish through the good and the bad times. I broke our vows because I was being selfish. Selfish, something Michael always said I was because I wouldn’t lose weight for him. What a jerk I whispered to myself. Why do I defend him for his actions and feel horrible about my own? He did this just as much as much as I did. He pushed me away. His words wounded my spirit, my soul, he wounded me.
What have I done to my family?
How is this going to affect Callie and Kaleb?
What am I going to do?
Fear has washed over me and now all I can do is decide what to do with what I have done.
Affairs.
I thought they were supposed to be exciting from all the books I read and instead I feel like I killed someone.
Me.
What will it be like when I see him tomorrow at work? Questions feel me up like a cup of overflowing tainted water.
Sleep.
I need sleep.

He slams me against the door, his lips meeting mine urgently. His hands search my body and I wrap my right leg up around his, moving my dress higher up my thighs.
His lips move to my tear-stricken cheeks, where lines of mascara still cover them. He makes his way to my neck and then my ear, lightly nibbling around my earlobe and I know at that moment, I need this.
“Make me forget,” I whisper.
“Oh believe me, you will forget your name when I am done with you,” he says, grabbing my ass, forcing my legs to wrap around his torso.
He carries me across the room, his lips on my mine, thrusting his tongue deeper in my mouth with every step. My arms are tight against him, keeping him close. The feeling of safety is what I crave.
He throws me on the bed, our eyes never leaving one another. Pulling on my legs, he brings me to the edge of the bed and takes off my heels. His hands inch up my legs until his fingers are wrapped around each side of my black thong. He slides it down my legs, tossing the tiny piece of material onto the floor before returning to push my dress up, exposing me to him. I hear the breath hitch in his throat before he starts unzipping his dress slacks and pushing them down. He shuffles over to the nightstand and seconds later he is on top of me.
“I have been waiting so long to have you,” he says, entering me hard and rushed. “Oh … so worth the wait.”
I remain quiet, trying to push all thoughts out of my head. When his hands reach my ass, pulling me harder against him, the pleasure increases and everything disappears. He thrusts forcefully into me, whispering how good I feel. He may not have as many moves as others and he talks too much for my liking, but I am enjoying how well-endowed he is.
The feeling builds inside of me; I love this part. All I feel is his touch while he pumps into me. As sweat starts slicking between us, I flip him over, straddling his body. I can no longer wait for him, he is going way too slow and I crave my release. Isn’t this what it’s all about?
“That’s what I’m talking about!” he says and smirks as I slide him back into me. I want to stick a sock in his throat. His talking is making it harder for me to find my relief.
He grabs my hips, trying to move me to his rhythm, but I pick up his hands and place them on my breasts so I can control the speed and rhythm. Five minutes later, my body shudders and I sink down on top of him.
“Fuck, Sadie. You’re awesome.” He moves to kiss me, but I climb off his body, pulling my dress back down.
I stand up to put my heels back on, but he grabs me from behind, bringing me closer to him. “Stay with me tonight,” he says, wrapping his arms around my waist.
“Okay,” I agree, crawling back on the bed. It is better than being alone. I hate being alone; it only makes me relive my mistakes.
He wraps his arms around me and I can smell the alcohol on his breath as his mouth rests close to my neck. The feeling of safety surrounds me and I drift off to sleep.
The next morning the light wakes me up, streaming into the small room and I find myself alone in a strange bed. I look around, trying to remember where I am and what I did. The dirty clothes overflowing in the hamper and the sports team paraphernalia on the wall tell me that I am most likely in a frat house … again.
I tip toe to get my shoes, hooking them in my hands. I slowly open the door, peering right and left down the hall. I see no one, so I quietly make my way down the stairs. It seems like the front door is a mile away and I can’t get through it fast enough. Just as my hand reaches the knob, I hear talking in the next room.
“I wouldn’t brag, Soren, I had her last week.” A deep voice laughs. “Actually, you might be the last to have her.”
“She a great lay though,” Jeff Soren says in return.
“I told you she was,” the other male agrees. “Ever since … the incident, she has become the college slut.”
“I know. It’s kind of sad though.” Jeff’s voice actually sounds concerned. “I wish …”
“Dude. You can’t save girls like that, you just enjoy what they give you,” the other voice replies back.
I close my eyes, taking a deep breath. I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror. Mascara is stained in long lines down my face and my long honey-colored hair looks like a bird made it their home. My lips are swollen red, and I can’t help but think I resemble a hooker on the corner waiting for her next trick.
I turn the knob to the door slowly, hoping Jeff and his buddy don’t hear me. I sneak out, walking across the street to my sorority house. I am happy to find that everyone is either still asleep or out. When I crash into my bed, I take the picture out of my drawer that’s been hidden away since last year. I clutch it hard against my chest, while sobs escape my mouth. Curling up into the fetal position on my twin bed, I can’t help but think how I have disappointed him. I need to change the direction of my life. Make him proud of me.

PREFACE
“Kenleigh, wake up honey.” The desperation in my father’s voice next to my ear startles me awake. My eyes snap open. His handsome face is covered in black marks. His chest heaves up and down, making him look like he’s just run a marathon. It’s an odd site to look at the normally strong man I know, completely paralyzed by fear. Grasping my hand, he pulls me out of the bed saying, “Stay low to the ground.”
On my hands and knees, I can see the flickering of an orange glow coming from underneath the crack of my bedroom door. “Daddy what’s going on?” I ask, beginning to panic. I know I need to move, but fear has me frozen in place. Tears start to well up in my eyes as my room begins to fill with a thick black cloud of smoke.
Our house is on fire.
Slithering across the floor in a low army crawl toward my window, my father looks back over his shoulder, coughing from the smoke and yells above the blaring fire alarm going off, “Kenleigh! You need to hurry up! Follow me.”
“Daddy I can’t, I’m scared.” My voice cracks from the horror that is now my reality. Tears glide down my face. I know we can’t make it down the stairs because what’s outside my door, but I can’t stop wondering what will happen if we can’t get out the window.
“I know you’re scared, but I promise I’m going to get you out of here,” my father says frantically, trying to keep his voice calm so I won’t panic any more than I already am. Jumping to his feet, he yanks me off the floor by my arm. Throwing me over his shoulder, he runs toward the bay window in my room. “Lift up the back of my shirt and put it over your face honey. Try not to breathe in the smoke,” he says coughing. I watch through the small opening between his arm and his body as he unlocks the window in my room with shaky hands. Pushing it open, I watch as the smoke travels in the direction of the open window, seeking its escape.
