“You like that don’t you, spoiled slut,” he said again, his fingers firm in my hair, but not pressing. He wanted me to do the work and I knew it. I pulled back and made eye contact.

“Yes,” I said, then teased him by slowly running my hand up and down his long, thick shaft.

“I could tell the first time we met how you liked it,” he grunted. “Take my cock again.”

I smiled at him then slowly let his throbbing rod enter my mouth and slide into my throat. I resisted the urge to gag and held it there, and I heard him groan his pleasure. I pulled it back out with a loud pop, breathing heavily and working his shaft with my hand, his whole member soaking wet and sticky with my saliva.

He reached down and pulled me to my feet easily. He kissed me again, and pushed our bodies over toward the couch. I felt my back press against the cold wall, and his strong hand spun me around. I pressed my hands up against the plaster as he unbuttoned my shorts and slid them down my legs. I felt my spot grow even more soaking wet as he slowly took my panties off. I felt him press up behind me, and heard his heavy breath in my ear. His fingers found my soaking spot and rubbed, and I spread my legs wider to let him have me. His left hand found my breasts as his right slid up and down my clit. I felt his fingers press inside of me and I moaned before he moved back to my clit.

“Fuck me,” I half whispered half moaned. I felt his smile against my neck again.

“I like it when you beg,” he whispered, and I let out a low moan of joy and pleasure. I felt his body heat move away for a second, and heard him fumble with his pants. I looked back as he pulled a condom from his wallet, ripped it open, then moved back toward me. He firmly pushed me back into position and spread my legs wide. I felt exposed and hot, body sweating from the work, and I needed him inside me. He finished rolling, and placed his hands on my hips.

He pressed himself into me, his thick cock sliding deep. I was soaked through, wetter than I’d ever been, and he easily filled me. I let out a loud moan as he slowly worked himself deeper. I felt his body press up against mine, and his lips found my neck again as he slowly began to grind his hips. His huge cock filled every inch of me, and I was almost blinded by the incredible mix of pleasure and pain his first thrusts brought me.

His speed increased, and I felt his one hand leave my hip to rub his finger against my clit. My knees began to shake again with the sheer pleasure of him, and I moaned with abandon. He began to fuck me hard, grunting his pleasure.

“Do you like taking my cock?” he whispered in my ear, and I could only reach back with one hand to press against his hip. He took that as my approval and thrust harder into me, his hand rubbing gently but firmly my clit, and I bucked my hips back against him, greedy for every inch. I felt myself growing close, my knees shaking and my muscles tense.

“Yes, fuck me there, just like that,” I moaned as he spread my legs further and pressed himself deeper inside of me. I pressed my hands against the wall to brace myself as he fucked me rough, and the orgasm built itself deep in my core. He grunted his own pleasure, and as I crested, my knees began to shake, every muscle tense and spasming. My back arched, and I felt his hand support me as he continued to thrust and grind into me. I took him deep and came hard, harder than I ever had before, and my vision nearly went white from the pleasure.

As my orgasm peaked and began to subside, he grabbed my hips rough and thrust deep and hard into me. I bucked back to match his pace, still needing him, still on fire with desire and pleasure. He grunted and groaned and thrust hard, and as his pace peaked, I saw and felt his whole body tense as he came inside me. His fingers dug into my hips, and I moaned for him, needing him to come every bit, hungry for him. As his pace slowed and his breathing calmed, he stepped back and moved away from me. The absence of him was briefly like a hammer on my chest, until he turned me back around and wrapped his arms around me. He pressed his sweating body against mine and held me hard as we both breathed heavy and tried to regain our senses.

We stood like that, wrapped in each other for a few minutes while we relaxed back into our normal rhythms. Finally, he pulled away. I raked my eyes along his naked, sculpted body, and felt more hunger for him, despite being exhausted and spent.

The rest of the night moved in inches and fits. We alternated between light, joking conversation and heavy, sweating touches. We fell asleep wrapped up in his sheets, the cool Philadelphia morning streaming in through his half-open windows.

Chapter Eight

T
he next morning, I felt bad that I had stood Amy up. I knew our relationship wasn’t the best since I had moved back to the city, but it wasn’t completely her fault. I was going through something I couldn’t exactly explain, and taking it out on her.

My thoughts were a mess as I made my way toward the brunch place. The night before, Rex and I had fallen asleep together, but in the morning he seemed aloof and distant. I couldn’t linger too long anyway, since I had plans with Amy, but it was strange. I knew developing strong feelings for that jerk was probably a bad idea, but I could feel myself getting sucked into his charm regardless.

He didn’t go into any more detail about his life after that first conversation. I had a million questions to ask him, but I knew it wasn’t the time to press. Rex said he didn’t want to lie to people anymore, but he also didn’t seem excited to go into details about the dark things he was involved with. I didn’t understand why Michael had so much power over him. Rex owed money, but why did he have to get involved in dangerous stuff like street fighting? Couldn’t he get a job and pay off his loans little by little like most people? I knew that seemed naïve, and I was missing a crucial piece of the story.

Around eleven thirty, I stopped in front of Good Dog, which was where I was meeting Amy for brunch. Good Dog was part bar and part restaurant. They did fantastic food, and they were named after the hundreds of framed pictures of dogs that they had hanging on their walls. The place was dark and somewhat crowded, but we had reservations.

I didn’t have to wait long for Amy. After a few minutes, a town car pulled up out front of the building and she climbed out the back. I wasn’t used to seeing Amy get chauffeured around the city. I guessed being engaged to Shane Green had certain perks.

Amy looked great. Radiant and happy in a way I hadn’t seen her look in years. We hugged and she smiled huge.

“Ready to eat?” she asked.

“Always,” I said.

We walked inside, into the dark bar, and the hostess took us up to our table. We were off in a small alcove under pictures of black lab puppies. When the waitress came over, Amy ordered us both a Bloody Mary.

“Going hard today?” I asked when the waitress was gone. I was exhausted, but oddly not very hung over. I didn’t drink that much the night before, although I had stayed up all night exploring the finer parts of Rex Latour.

Amy laughed and shrugged. “We don’t do this often anymore, so I’m taking advantage of it.”

“You’re right. I’m sorry if I haven’t tried hard enough to spend time with you.”

“No, it’s my fault. I’m sorry. I’ve been so wrapped up in Shane and the wedding.”

It felt good to get that out of the way right off the bat. We never were the kind of friends who let things fester. If there was an issue between us, more often than not we’d talk about it immediately. I wished more people worked that way.

I laughed. “I’m glad we got that out of the way. I miss you, kiddo.”

“I miss you too, Darce.”

The waitress came back with our Bloody Marys. We clinked glasses and drank deep.

“So, tell me about the date you ditched me for,” Amy said when we were done.

“I’m not sure I’d call it a date.”

“What would you call it then?”

I thought for a second. “A meeting of mutually interested humans?”

Amy laughed. “Sounds like a date. Give me details!”

For the next few minutes I walked her through my night with Rex. She looked concerned when I touched on the encounter with Michael, but she didn’t interrupt. That was something I loved about Amy: she rarely interrupted, and she was a fantastic listener. Even if she didn’t agree with what I was saying, she let me finish before responding. I glossed over the details of my time at Rex’s apartment, but I could tell Amy got the general idea.

“Sex on date two, huh,” she said with a laugh.

“I know, I know.” I was glad I hadn’t told her about the close encounter in the bathroom from the week before.

“You have to tell me about it.”

I blushed. Usually I’d give her all the finer points, but for some reason I felt myself unable to talk about it.

“He’s pretty amazing,” I said lamely.

Amy seemed to get the point, and didn’t press. “Are you going to see him again?”

“I don’t know,” I said honestly. We hadn’t made any definite future plans. Rex didn’t seem like the kind of guy who made those.

“Do you want to?”

“Yeah, I think I do.”

Instead of looking excited, concern washed over her face. “He sounds like he’s mixed up with some pretty scary people.”

“He’s trying to get out of it.”

“Do you know who that Michael guy is?”

I shook my head. “No, Rex didn’t really go into detail about him. Just said that he was someone I should stay away from.”

Amy nodded and looked away.

“What’s the matter?” I asked. Amy was obviously concerned.

“Shane told me something about Rex that I need to tell you about.”

I let out a sigh. Shane and his mysterious knowledge about Rex was starting to get annoying.

“I know you guys don’t approve, Amy.”

“It’s not that, honestly. If you’re happy, I’m happy. It’s just, he has a pretty intense past.”

I was getting a little frustrated. I wasn’t used to Amy second-guessing my choice in men. I had to admit that I understood her concern, and I even found myself a little frightened, but I knew that Rex would never hurt me, or let me get hurt. Even if his past was intense or dark, it was all in the past.

“I know, Amy. But I’m fine.”

“Just let me tell you what I know, then I promise I’ll drop it.”

“Fine, but I want you to understand that I’m being safe. He’s not what you think he is.”

Amy nodded. “I get it. But look. Shane told me that when his brother was getting into trouble back in the day, he was involved in this Irish drug gang in the city. They stole cars, robbed trucks, that sort of thing. Apparently, Rex is still involved with those people. I guess Michael is the gang’s leader or whatever.”

That gave me pause. He hadn’t said that he was involved with a gang. I figured Michael was a scumbag loan shark or a bookie, and that was how Rex owed him money. I sat quietly for a second, absorbing this new information.

“What do you mean, a gang? Like the mob?”

Amy nodded. “Apparently they’re pretty dangerous. Shane said you should really stay far away from them. His brother got sucked in, and ended up in jail.”

“What did his brother do?”

“I can’t really say, but it was bad. Shane said he doesn’t know much about Rex, just that the people he’s involved with are pretty serious.”

“He told me he was involved with drugs a while ago, but he said he was clean now. He’s trying to pay back his debts.”

Amy reached out and took my hand and squeezed. “I believe you. I just thought you needed to know everything about this guy before you get more involved.”

I squeezed back, smiling. “Thanks, kiddo. I appreciate your concern. I don’t even know if he’ll call again, or what.” My mind was buzzing with this new information. I had a hard time putting Rex together with the Irish mob, but apparently it was true.

“No problem. Now, tell me all about that cut body of his.” She slipped her hand back and took a large drink.

I laughed. “I’d say he’s in shape.”

Amy grinned as I took along drink. The alcohol warmed my stomach and the spicy tomato juice was delicious.

“I have something serious to ask,” Amy said. I was a little surprised and wondered what more serious stuff she had to say.

“Go for it, kiddo.”

“So you know I’m getting married.”

I acted shocked. “Married? I didn’t even know you were dating someone!”

She grinned. “Will you be my maid of honor?”

I paused. “Of course I will, you idiot!”

We laughed together. I felt the old joy being around Amy come flooding back, and for a second I forgot the confusion and dread that had begun swirling inside of me.

“I’m so happy. I promise you won’t have to do anything,” she said.

“I’ll do whatever you need! I’m just glad you asked.”

We laughed again, easy and comfortable, and finished our drinks together. When the waitress came back, we ordered food and another round, comfortable in our friendship.

A
s I walked home after brunch, a little tipsy but feeling good, my mind wandered back to Rex. I thought about his sweating, sculpted body, his perfectly full lips, and his devilish grin. I wanted to call him, but I knew it was too soon.  I had practically just left his apartment.

It made sense that Rex was involved with some drug gang. How else could they be running a serious underground fighting ring, or whatever it was? And that guy, Michael, he was genuinely terrifying. The real problem was whether Rex actually wanted out or not. He said he had been clean for over a year, but why hadn’t he paid off his debts sooner?

The city suddenly felt huge. I knew I was out of my depth, involved with things I didn’t completely understand. I was adrift, and the space around me suddenly became sinister. I imagined that every person I passed by worked for the Irish mob, or some other equally violent gang. I wondered if I’d get used to the feeling, or if I would stay paranoid for as long as I knew Rex.

But every time I thought about him, about his cocky grin and his confidence, and the way he continually stood by my side to defend me, I couldn’t help but need him more. I felt safe in unsafe moments because of him. His perfect, sweating body wrapped around mine, lost in the glow of each other, was one of the calmest moments of my life, and I wanted to experience it again and again.
