Vague memories flutter back to me through the haze of my mounting temper. We never talked all that much about his business back then, but what he’s saying still sounds a little familiar.

He shrugs his shoulder before muscling through the rest.

“One day, just when I thought things were going the way I wanted, she came to me with a proposition. She said that if she helped me out on the deal, she expected a little…
return on her investment
.”

The way he says it lets me know exactly what he means. The mere thought of someone selling their body that way makes me feel sick.

“And you agreed to it?” I ask, not waiting for him to fill in the blanks.

“She didn’t give me a choice. I honestly never though it would really come to that, anyway. I thought she was just having a little fun…”

I feel even more disgusted.

“You thought she was
joking around
when she offered to be your
whore
?”

His face tightens even more and my disgust is diminished by a wave of guilt.

Can I be more of a bitch? Calvin is here trying to answer my questions as best he can and I’m doing nothing but attacking him for it.

I wave a hand, apologetically, my shoulders slumping. It’s just all so much to try and process at one time.

Calvin gives me another long look before saying anything else, as though he’s not sure whether or not he should continue. Thankfully, he does.

“So when the deal was finally closed and I got what I wanted, she came to me to and said it was her turn. I didn’t want to go through with it. I told her I
wouldn’t
go through with it… which is when she decided to blackmail me…”

I give him a flat look.

“You’re saying you cheated on me because you were blackmailed into it?”

He nods.

“That’s one way of putting it…”

My mouth hangs open and I give him a disbelieving stare.

“That’s not an excuse, Calvin. It would have been better if you let her follow through on her threat than to betray me the way you did…”

The intensity in his face deepens. My heart flutters as the weight of his presence moves over me.

“You’re right, and I know that now. But you don’t even know what she was using to blackmail me…”

For some reason, the tone of his voice strikes me and makes me wonder what could possibly have been so important to him?

“What was it?” I ask.

“You,” he says, without hesitating.

I shake my head.

“I don’t understand… I didn’t have anything to do with it.”

“You had
everything
to do with it.” My heart races faster as he steps in even closer. He’s almost pressed up against me now, but I can’t even dare myself to back away from him. “If I didn’t go through with her demands, then she was going to go to you and make up an elaborate lie about how I had been having an affair with her the whole time that you and I were together. She said she would make sure that you believed her, and that she would do everything in her power to split us apart.”

What is he talking about? Why would Renae want to do that? Is this all just another elaborate lie?

I don’t want to believe what Calvin is saying is true. I want to go on thinking that he really had been cheating on me with Renae. That’s what I’ve been thinking for all these years, and I’ve already numbed myself to it. I don’t know how I’m supposed to handle the thought that I might have been wrong. I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle wondering how things might have played out differently if I’d only stuck around to find out what had really been going on.

The things he’s saying are enraging. A part of me wants to track that bitch down, grab her by the hair, and throw her around until she tells me how she could possibly want to ruin something as good as what Calvin and I had.

But the softness in Calvin’s eyes is enough to calm all of those thoughts. His eyes keep me in the moment. They make me want nothing more than to pretend that the last few years never happened, so that I won’t feel so stupid for wanting to crawl back into his arms right now.

“So, it’s like I told you…” Calvin continues. “I fucked up. I made the worst mistake of my life. I should have trusted that you would have believed me when I told you that I couldn’t imagine ever doing anything to ruin what we had.”

“Why did you go through with it? Why didn’t you come to me? I would have understood. You didn’t have to sleep with her…”

Calvin gives me a sad look and shakes his head.

“It was a moment of weakness. It was the lowest point of my life. I panicked and made the wrong choice.” He shifts his head to the side, looking me squarely in the eye. “But I
never
slept with her.”

“I
saw
you.”

The words come out simply. They’re not laced with anger or bitterness like they usually are. Just the honest facts.

I’m surprised when he lets out a little chuckle, almost breaking the tense mood. What in the world could he find funny about this situation?

“It’s true, you saw her going down on me,” he says. My gut tightens up, but the almost playful look on his face seems so out of place that it leaves me feeling confused. “Normally I’d never admit this to anyone, but she was trying to… you know…
motivate
me.”

It takes me a moment before I realize what he means.

“You mean you couldn’t…”

He nods, confirming my understanding.

“I couldn’t get it up.” He lets out an embarrassed laugh and shrugs his shoulders. “I shouldn’t feel bad about it, but my ego thinks otherwise. I was feeling so guilty about what I was doing, and I was so distracted by what you would think if you ever found out. I just couldn’t let myself be in the moment. She said she knew a trick that worked every time. Only it didn’t… and that was when you walked in…”

Just in time to catch Renae with his dick in her mouth…

Just in time to freak out so bad about what was going on that I couldn’t do anything but turn and run the other way as fast as possible…

What am I supposed to say about all of this? How am I supposed to react to what he just told me? Am I supposed to feel better about everything now that I know the truth? Am I supposed to be happy that the only reason he didn’t fuck her was because he couldn’t get it up? Am I supposed to feel anything at all?

But before I can even begin making sense of the situation, he does something that makes all of my worries and concerns fade into the background.

Calvin raises his hand, brushing along my cheek with the back of his fingertips. His touch is soft and tender, just the way I remember it. It sends another jolt of electricity through me. My heart flutters wildly as his hand moves its way to the back my head.

He leans forward, his fingers lacing through my brown hair and pulling me closer to him as he does. Every nerve in my body feels like it’s barely able to contain itself. Every sensation is so heightened that it feels like I’m going to explode.

I know what’s about to happen. I’ve seen that look in his eye countless times. A part of me is screaming a warning, but an even larger part knows that his touch is the sweetest thing I’ve felt in all of my life.

His lips press into mine and every last bit of my resistance melts away. He tastes exactly the way I remember.

He tastes like heaven.

Chapter 5

Sofie

“Calvin, what are you doing?”

Somehow I manage to pull away long enough to ask the question.

He doesn’t answer. I’m not even sure if he hears me. He leans in again and kisses me for a second time. My heart races even faster.

The feel of his lips pressing into mine sends my head into a tumbling swirl. All of those vivid dreams I’ve been having for the last few years don’t even come close to the real thing. No feeling in the world has ever come close to the way it feels when Calvin touches me.

“We belong together, Sofie,” he says.

His tone is low and heated. The passion he feels for me is obvious—he’s not even trying to hide it. It matches the passion that I’m feeling inside.

Warning bells are going off in my head even while my heart races at nearly uncontrollable speeds. They’re telling me that I need to get away from him. They’re telling me that I’m not safe here. They’re telling me to run.

He continues, “I can’t live another minute knowing that you’re in New York and that I’m not by your side.”

“We shouldn’t be doing this,” I manage, but my words don’t even come close to sounding convincing.

“I can’t think of anything better than this.”

Calvin wraps his arms around me and pulls me tight against his muscular frame. My desire for him is nearly overwhelming. Our mouths come together in a passionate embrace. Our tongues swirl in the familiar taste of each other.

Before I even know what’s happening, the entire world blurs around me.

Calvin lifts me into his arms and my legs wrap around his slender frame as he carries me into one of the nearby offices. The door slams behind him when he kicks it shut. With one hand he swipes clear whatever is sitting on the desk, sending it clattering to the ground, and with the other he holds me close as he lowers me onto it.

We’re a flurry of hands and fingers as we begin ripping our clothes off. Fumbling with the buttons of his shirt, Calvin resorts to ripping it wide open. Each of them pops and shoots around the room as it’s snapped free of the designer shirt.

I rip my blouse up over my head and Calvin’s hands are all over me. They start in the front and then slide around to the back. My bra snaps free before I even realize what he’s doing. He pulls it off of me and throws it somewhere behind him.

His fingers dig into my back as he pulls me tight to his body. He wraps his hot mouth around the bud of my nipple. He teases me with his wet tongue. It lashes around in tiny circles, sending a wave of excited shivers spreading across my flesh.

An unexpected moan escapes me. I’d forgotten how good he is. I’d forgotten how good he is at
everything
he does. He knows exactly how to make me come whenever he wants.

“You taste so good,” he says. “You haven’t changed at all. You taste just the way I remember.”

A rush of air washes over my exposed nipple when Calvin pulls away. His lips inch down my breast to my exposed stomach. His hands slide down my body ahead of his lips and have no problem releasing the button on my pants.

The kisses don’t stop until he arrives at the top edge of my panties. His wet tongue traces a thin line along the soft fabric, leaving a trail behind it that sends a tingling sensation through my body. I quiver every time his tongue traces its way just a little deeper beneath that thin barrier of fabric. I so desperately want to push him farther down, want to make him take me in his mouth right now, right here.

Calvin’s hands wrap around beneath my ass and I reactively lift it into the air as he tugs my pants and panties down. He doesn’t stop pulling them until my pants are pulled free of each leg. He discards them in a heap next to the desk.

His eyes gaze at my fully exposed and soaking center. A tiny smile tugs at the corners of his lips. It’s been a long time since he’s looked at me like this. It’s been a long time since
anyone
has looked at me like this. I’m completely nude and on display for him.

“I’ve been waiting for this for so long,” he says, licking his lips.

His eyes are fixed on my vagina and I know exactly what he’s going to do. Calvin has a magical tongue. The things it can do shouldn’t be possible.

My body is already preparing itself to be taken by him, but even still, there’s something that makes me stop him.

“Wait…” He looks up at me, curious eyes wondering what reason I could possibly have for interrupting what he was about to do. “Not that. Not tonight. I want to feel you inside of me—don’t make me wait any longer.”

“So you’ve been thinking

about this, too?”

I bite my lip again and nod. A grin spreads across his face and he stands up. There’s a noticeable bulge in his pants where his cock is waiting to be released.

His hands move ever so slowly as they undo his belt buckle. And then they actually slow down as they unbutton his pants and begin sliding his zipper down. He’s doing this on purpose just to tease me!

“I knew you wouldn’t be able to stay away forever. I knew there would be a day when you’d come back to me. I knew that our last time wasn’t our
last
time.”

Finally, he reaches into his pants and pulls out his massive cock. It’s a thing of beauty—thick and long with just the right amount of curve to it. My mouth gapes.

Calvin watches with an amused look on his face as I marvel at his manhood. He’s enjoying making me wait. He’s enjoying teasing me with that glorious thing between his legs. He holds it in front of me like it’s a prize he’s about to give me. When he’s done having his fun, he reaches a hand into his back pocket and pulls out something that I didn’t expect to see.

My brow furrows and my stare hardens, recognizing what it is.

“A condom?”

Calvin doesn’t seem to be paying me any attention as he places the corner in his mouth and rips the package open.

“You know I always play it safe,” he says.

His response makes it obvious that he has no idea why I’m shocked.

“You were carrying that thing around the whole time?”

“Of course. I always carry one… Better safe than sorry.”

My eyes widen even more. In a flash I’m sitting up on the edge of the desk, my legs snapping shut. Calvin falls a step back, surprised by my sudden movement.

“You
always
have a condom with you?” I stare at him in disbelief. “How often do you actually
need
one?”

The shocked look remains on his face for another moment before realization sets in. It quickly hardens and his eyes turn icy and cold. A tense moment of silence passes between us before he responds.

“You don’t think I’ve spent the last few years living like a monk, do you?”
