hinge fracture

A kind of fracture that occurs around the distal end of a flint flake during flint knapping when the core is mis-struck or there are flaws in the flint. Characteristically a hinge-fractured flake has a rounded distal end with small burrs at the tip of the ventral surface.
hippo sandals

Iron shoes worn by draft animals during Roman times for temporary protection of their hooves or to aid grip in wet conditions.
hippodrome
[MC].
A course for horse and chariot racing, similar in form to the
STADIUM
, but larger. The hippodrome was the model for the Roman
CIRCUS
which also involved chariot racing.
historic

Referring to the period after the advent of written historical records in a given geographical region. Historic Native American sites date to the time after the arrival of Europeans.
historical archaeology
[Ge].
A branch of archaeology based on the text-aided study of archaeological questions. It involves combining archaeological and historical methods, sources, and perspectives, and naturally focuses on relatively recent periods. It is sometimes called historic sites archaeology.
historical materialism

Marx's interpretation of social change through history which is determined primarily by economic forces.
