I turned around and waved Mira to me. She was frozen and could barely move her head to signal ‘no’. I lifted her and brought her to me just as an orc popped his head over the edge. He saw Niruth and went backwards off the edge, with a yelp. We could hear him sliding down the side of the tall mesa.

“Mira, listen to me. The dragon’s name is Niruth and he won’t hurt us. We’ve talked mind-to-mind and I could feel his honesty. With me here and him here, you couldn’t be safer. I understand your fear but trust me, my love.”

She whispered, “Okay, Davie,” and her panicked breathing began to slow.

I heard what could only have been a chuckle in my mind, “
I’m sorry I frightened her so badly, my friend Mage. You seem to care deeply for her
.”

              “
She is my wife, today is our wedding day. I was taking her to meet the pixies in the southern forest as a wedding gift
.”

              “
I see, and congratulations. Perhaps if I spoke to her, she would trust me. Since she is the wife of a Mage, she’ll have your protection and therefore mine, as well. Since she isn’t a magical creature like you, I can’t talk to her mind the way I can yours. I do know your language and I can speak, but with my teeth and tongue it might sound a bit odd. I shall try if you would like, but we will have to be closer. Crude shouting won’t do and should be left to the orcs. I won’t move quickly, because I don’t want to make things worse, and it would be nice to have human friends that I can talk to again
.”

              “
I’ll talk to her and see if I can get her calmed enough to give us a chance. Thank you for your kind offer, Niruth.
” He nodded his massive head and I turned to Mira. “My love, Niruth the dragon wants to talk to you so you’ll know that there is nothing to fear. He wants to be friends, but in order to talk we have to be closer so we don’t have to shout back and forth. Do you understand?”

She took a shaky breath. “I understand that I’m on a mesa in the middle of No Man’s Land with a dragon and my husband has gone mad. I’m scared and I want you to take me home. We don’t need a honeymoon and… I’m scared Davie!”

I looked back at Niruth and spoke out loud as I projected my thoughts to him, “She believes that I’ve gone mad and that I’m not talking to you. Perhaps you could give her a sign that her husband of less than a day isn’t insane?”

There was a chuckle in my mind. “
Perhaps if I were to bow to the young lady, she would believe that what you’ve said is true. Humans are such a distrustful lot. Seeing how they treat each other, it’s not hard to understand why.
” He slowly stood up on his hind legs, using his tail to balance himself. He then put one front leg across his armored chest and bowed low, cocking his head to the side as it got to the ground. He rose up slowly and went back down on all fours, watching us to see if that had done the trick.

I looked at Mira. Her mouth was hanging open and she was staring at Niruth. “My stars, Davie, you haven’t gone mad! I don’t know if I’m happier about that or the fact that we’re not going to be dinner! Of course I’ll talk to the dragon. Now there is something I would never have dreamed of me saying.”

I laughed and told Niruth that we could get closer and she was looking forward to talking to him. I said I’d meet him half way.

Again there was the chuckle in my mind. “If I crawled there, I could still cover more than half the ground between us because of the short legs you humans walk on.”

I put my arms around Mira and kissed her. I then
ported
us a quarter mile in Niruth’s direction. We could hear him laughing as he came toward us. When he was ten yards away, he stopped and settled his massive body on the ground.

With a voice that sounded like a snake talking with a lisp he said, “My Lady, I hope that you’ll forgive me, as your husband has. I wrongfully assumed that you and your husband were up to no good. I have learned the error of my ways and the Mage has forgiven me.”

Mira looked at Niruth shyly. “Niruth?” The dragon nodded. “You call my husband a Mage? What exactly do you mean? I’ve met the trainee wizards and their instructors, and then I’ve met some wizards that use other magic. I’ve never even heard the word ‘mage’ before.”

The dragon made a face that might have been a smile. “You have the wizards that cast spells and use wands. They can be a powerful force, but nothing for me to worry about. Then there are the psionic wizards. They are indeed an impressive lot and those born to them are even more so. But the most powerful forces are commanded by the Magi. Since I don’t feel that even he knew what he was, it doesn’t surprise me that you don’t. Your young man here is in possession of the most powerful magic in the world and he is the only mage that I know. You can take my word for this, because I’m pretty old and have seen a lot. I am the oldest of my kind and as such I am their ruler. I will spread the word that the two of you are under my protection and you won’t be bothered on your honeymoon again. I even speak that grunting noise that the orcs call a language. I’ll inform them, too.”

Mira looked as though she’d hug Niruth if she could get her arms around any part of him. All fear of the dragon had left her and she was fascinated by him. “Thank you, Niruth. You are a wonderful and fascinating creature. Would it be out of line if I were to ask to kiss you on the cheek?”

The concept of a dragon being shy or embarrassed hadn’t ever crossed my mind, but when Mira asked to kiss him, I would have sworn that he blushed! He leaned down and put his face close to her and she stood on her tiptoes and kissed him. He sat up and shook his head a bit. “You humans should camp here tonight. There’s no sense in you looking for a place in the dark. I’ll make sure that you’re not bothered. It is your wedding night, after all, and I know human rituals. I’ll go get you some firewood and be back shortly.” He walked fifty yards away and looked back to check his distance from us. He then flapped his powerful wings, lifting himself off the ground and blasting us with a gust of wind. He headed south and was quickly out of sight in the dimming light.

Mira grabbed me and embraced me so tightly that she almost squeezed the air from my lungs. “My stars, Davie, I knew when I married you that there would be magic and my life would be different. I couldn’t have dreamed that anything like this would ever happen. I love you so much. Thank you for making me your wife.”

“Mira, my beloved, thank you for having me as your husband. I couldn’t have dreamed of this happening, either. Remember how I charged you with making sure my ego stayed in check when my powers started showing? It goes even more so now. Finding out that you’re the most powerful person in the world, and that dragons will even break off attacks to keep from fighting with you, is overwhelming.”

“I’m not worried. I know the real you and that man is amazingly tenderhearted. I know that you’ll always try to do the best you can for people. By the way, you might be interested to know that after that encounter with Niruth, your hair is completely white.”

“So my sixteen year old wife, who looks incredibly sexy in those tight pants and tunic, is married to an old white-headed man?”

“If you’ll set up the tent and Niruth will return with firewood, you won’t have to look at me in these tight clothes anymore. I’ve waited for you for as long as I can. When we get our fire built and say goodnight to our company, it will be time to consummate this marriage!”

If there had been a contest for erecting a tent, I would have won. The tent was up and we were watching the southern skies for our dragon friend’s return. We ate our dinner while we waited and talked about how we were going to get people to believe our trip so far. We weren’t twenty-four hours out of Perlsea and had already made an unbelievable friend.

Niruth returned carrying a dead tree in his jaws. He set it down close to our tent. I cut it into lengths with a wave of my hand, floated some to a pile in front of the tent and ignited it with a thought. Niruth made a sound that sounded like a sigh and said, “It’s nice to watch a Mage work again. I’ve missed that over the millennia. I’m going to burn a circle around the mesa as a warning to the orcs, in case they get any ideas. I know you could handle yourself, but you don’t need the distraction tonight. I’m sure that my lovely friend Mira will want to be your only distraction. I’ll be off, because you don’t need a dragon around right now. If we don’t get a chance to chat tomorrow, please come back often. I have knowledge that might help you and I’d miss you both if you didn’t. Don’t forget me!”

“I can promise that we will never forget you, kind sir. You are a very memorable individual.”

Mira said, “Niruth, I’ll insist that he brings me to see you. I hope that we’ll see you in the morning but if we don’t, we will soon.”

He bowed to Mira and then put a bit more distance than he had before between us and took to the air. We watched a wall of fire ascend from the south, then the north. There was a brief pause, then the west and the east. The dragon circled high above us and there was a short burst of flame and he flew off to the east. Mira grabbed my hand and pulled me into the tent.

She pressed her lips against mine before I’d cleared the entrance of the tent. Her breathing was already speeding up as the anticipation that had built all day was coming to fruition. I broke our kiss long enough to pull my tunic over my head and she followed suit. Her beautiful, perky breasts, with her nipples already rock hard from her excitement, grabbed my attention. I pushed her backward and laid her down on our bedroll, then took her breast into my mouth as if trying to fit the entire thing in. She started to moan and began lifting her hips up into me. I started kissing down her quivering tummy until I got to the top of her trousers. I tentatively turned on my pleasure increasing magic at a level that I could just barely feel. She gasped and thrust up against me and I could tell that it was working but not overpowering. I kicked my shoes off and felt her do the same. I hooked my fingers into her waistband and started pulling down. She rose up, wiggling from side to side to help me slide them down. All sense of modesty and shyness had disappeared in a pink cloud of lust. As her pants came down, I noticed that she was as bald as a wizard’s consort. I looked up at her questioningly. She blushingly told me that it was a gift from my mother but the actual spell work had been done by Amee. She’d been too shy to undress and have that done in front of my mother. I finished removing her pants and said that I was glad for the gift because I didn’t care for hair in my mouth. She gave me a puzzled look and I put my arms behind her knees and planted my face squarely between her thighs. I separated her lips with my tongue and located her clit, which I sucked between my teeth. I began sucking and flicking it with my tongue. Her gasps began bordering on screams as orgasm after orgasm shook her body. I finally released her and slid out of my pants. I lay on my back beside her with my erection pointing at the tent roof. She was panting and looked at me questioningly. I said that she needed to take it from here because she was a virgin, and I was so worked up I couldn’t trust myself not to hurt her. She crawled over on top of me and every nerve in my body felt her. She whispered in my ear ’you’re glowing’ and I laughed. I told her that there was nothing I wanted to do about it but I wanted to be inside her very badly. She reached down to position my member and spasms of pleasure shot through me, causing me to moan. She moved me into her very gently, handling me like I’d break. It became all I could do not to push her down onto me. She sat up so she could come straight down on me and slid down all the way with only the slightest hesitation. She held me inside her for a moment and began moving up and down, enjoying the feeling of me inside her more and more. I knew that I couldn’t take much more and rolled her to the side and kissed her firmly while thrusting into her all at once. She squealed with pleasure and I thrust rapidly until I exploded inside her with such force I thought that all of me would disappear inside her as well. I wouldn’t have minded if I had. Inside her was a wonderful place to be. I turned off the magic and rolled off of her.

I looked over at my beautiful wife. “And to think that I have that to look forward to for the rest of my life. My stars, I love you, Mira!” I cast a
dome shield
over our campsite.

“Davie, all day long I’ve thought there was something wrong with me. I was actually looking forward to and wanting to do my wifely duty in your bed tonight. I thought that the consorts were putting a bright face on what they had to do regularly, as their position requires. Why would women call something so satisfyingly pleasurable a duty?”

I laughed, “Maybe magic isn’t the only thing I’m good at.”

“Whew! I’ll agree with that! Now come hold me. There’s no need to unpack my gown. I doubt I’ll ever wear one again.”

“Other than hearing you say ‘I do’, that is the best news I’ve heard all day.”

She giggled, “Sweet dreams, my love.”

              “You too, beautiful.”

At sunrise, I kissed Mira awake. She woke with a smile. “I could get used to waking up like that!”
