John and I had eased ourselves into steaming tubs of perfumed and oiled water.

Michelle had kneeled behind John and Grenald had kneeled behind me.

They placed towels under our heads and started to apply a mud mask.

When they were finished, they put sliced cucumbers on our eyes.

“I’m going to snore!” I complained.

“I won’t hear you because I’ll be asleep.

I’m so damned relaxed,” John moaned.

I felt a hand under my elbow, run up to my wrist.

“Here is your champagne, ma’am.”

It was Michael.

“Set it here.”

He guided my hand down.

“Also, on your left side is more fruit if you want it.

It does not matter if you drop it in the bath as you are surrounded by fruit juice and essence already.”

He didn’t say anything else as I heard the wisp of his soft soled slippers move away from me.

He gave the same instructions to John then disappeared.

“I can’t see a damned thing,” John complained.

“Take the cucumbers off your eyes.”

I teased.

“No, they’re there for a reason.

I can find a glass and fruit in the dark, if I have to.”

I giggled.

“Michelle?” he called out.

“Yes, sir,” she answered.

“I use my hands a lot at work.

Is there anything you can do so they’re not quite so rough for the lady?” he asked.

“I will have to remove your champagne, and move the fruit plate sir, but yes.”

“I’ve had enough fruit,” I interrupted.

“Very well then.”

I heard the plate scrape against the tile as she took it.

Moments later I heard containers of liquid being placed around John.

They told him to put his hands inside and from the sound, he had complied.

“Ma’am!”

“Huh, what?”

I must have fallen asleep.

“I’m going to clean the mud off your face.

Please keep your eyes closed.”

Michelle was wiping my face with a soft warm cloth.

I also heard the water draining from the tub around me.

“A shower head is being lowered down.

There is no soap because we only need you to rinse off with water, your hair included.”

“Okay,” I was confused, but had been so relaxed thus far there was no need to argue.

Once John and I were both rinsed off, we were handed warmed robes to put on and I was handed a towel for my hair.

We were led to a dining area where everyone was in robes and towels.

We were given strong coffee and menus.

“I’m really not all that hungry,” I told John.

“Look at the portion sizes.

Just order what you like.

I guess they assume you’ve been eating finger sandwiches, fruit and champagne, but it’s also four o’clock in the afternoon.

This is our last meal of the day, so you should eat.”

Fighting the urge to interrogate him, I picked out what I wanted and ordered when our server arrived.

“So after we eat, we have one more stop to make before we go back to change and grab your bag.”

It was irritating that he knew what was going on and I didn’t.

But I smiled and started on my walnut salad.

“No clue as to what we’re doing tonight?”

“I will tell you in the truck before we get there.

You cannot steal my element of surprise.”

John sipped at his tiny cup of soup, looking up at me with mischievous eyes.

Not a spaz.

Nope, wasn’t going to be a spaz.

I smiled back at

him

“Relax, I was just curious.

Don’t be such a spaz,” I said winking at him.

After our dinner, we were lead back to our changing room where we changed back into our clothes.

Instead of leading me to the truck, he pulled my hand and led me into a beauty salon adjacent to the building we were just in.

“Can I help you?”

The lady behind the desk looked annoyed.

He slid his business card to her.

“I have an appointment for the both of us.”

She looked at the name and typed it into her computer.

“I see.

Come with me.”

She stood from behind the desk in her stiletto heels.

John and I followed her into the salon.

“Have a seat, someone will be right with you.”

“Hello, I’m Raul.

How can I help you today?”

A short thin man approached me from behind and started inspecting my hair immediately.

“I want her to have slutty hair and make-up.

Do her up like a high class porn star.”

John didn’t bat an eyelash as a woman started combing through his hair, spraying it with water.

“You want this?” Raul asked me.

“Whatever the man says,” I agreed, praying I wouldn’t regret it.

“Fake eyelashes, the whole nine yards,” John added.

“I don’t want working girl slutty, porn star slutty.

Can you do it?”

“You were promised this on the phone?” Raul asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Yes, sir.”

“Very well then.

Darling, your hair was just chemically treated, yes?” he asked.

That was a hair dresser’s polite way of asking if I had a dye job.

“Yes, two weeks ago.”

He frowned then began working, aggressively scrubbing my hair, leaving little skin on my scalp.

When he was done giving me sexy hair, which included temporary extensions, he sat me down with a cosmetologist.

“Special night, huh?” she asked.

“I have no idea.

This is all a surprise, but having my date ask to have me made up like a porn star has me a little worried.”

I snickered.

“Yes, well I’m going to interpret his man-terms into a Smokey dramatic eye with long eyelashes and a bold lip.”

She smiled as she started using a cotton round with some sort of astringent cleaner on my face.

“Good, I won’t look like a two dollar whore then, right?”

“Oh honey, I couldn’t do that to a woman.

You’ll look great, you have my word.

Dramatic, not trashy is my promise.”

With an application sponge, she started laying foundation.

It took her awhile but when she was done, she turned my chair toward the mirror.

True, it was dramatic and a lot heavier than anything I’d normally wear, but I didn’t feel like a hooker.

“That’s hot!”

John was standing behind me looking in the mirror.

He pulled money out of his wallet and put it on her counter.

“Let’s go, we need to get back and change.”

SWINGING

I stood in my apartment, bag waiting on the couch.

My black dress was short, as requested and I had knee high black leather boots to match.

If my look didn’t scream “fuck me,” nothing did.

John had some sort of plan for me tonight.

A million things had run through my mind and I still had no idea what he had planned.

I hated waiting, especially when I had no idea what I was waiting for.

When the door finally opened with John standing in the entry, I started to relax.

“Fantastic!”

He waved me over.

“Come on, let’s get out of here.”

“Still not telling me where we’re going?”

I asked.

“We’re not in the truck yet,” he said, smacking me on my rear as I walked out the door.

“Be good or I won’t tell you at all.”

“Yes sir!”

I giggled.

John was a perfect gentleman, taking my bag and helping me get into his new truck in my short black dress.

He had his bag already in the truck waiting.

I fought the urge not to ask where we were going for the first ten minutes.

Clearly, we were heading out of town, but the destination was still a mystery.

“I love the big hair.

Guess it’s from growing up in the 80s.

But it’s hot!”

He reached over grabbing my hand.

“So, do you want to know where we are going?”

“No, not really.

I’ve only asked a dozen times.

Clearly, I have no interest in the destination.

But the company is fantastic.”

I winked at him.

“Cute.

In about fifteen minutes, we’re going to pull into an on-premise swingers’ club.”

He glanced over at me.

“A what?”

“Well, I had a bed and breakfast already booked for us.

I was going to give you all the romance you could stand.

But then you got these tickets.

After you invited me, I started thinking that before you go for a two week vacation to a swinger’s resort, that perhaps you should actually visit a swing club so that you know what you’re dealing with.

“Have you ever been to a swing club?”

Maybe there was part of John I didn’t know about.

“Remember, I told you I have an ex-girlfriend who was into this stuff?

I went with her twice before we broke up.

That’s not why we broke up, we just didn’t do well living together, so we knew there was no future.”

He took a deep breath and waited for me to respond.

At first, I began to regret that we wouldn’t be going to a quaint bed and breakfast.

But then, my entire day had been filled with romantic gestures.

Tonight could be fun.

I had John with me, and he was a tremendous lover.

“This will be fun!”

I smiled at him.

“So what can I expect.

I mean, you know, since I’ve never been to anything like this.”

My heart began to race.

New experiences were great, but also gave me a hint of anxiety.

I was getting better, but nervousness still plagued me.

“This is why I didn’t tell you ahead of time.

I didn’t want to give you time to worry.

If you don’t want to go, we can turn around.”

“No, I want to go!

Just give me some idea.”

“We’ll get a tour when we first get there.

Then, we’ll grab a seat in the bar area and make our drinks.”

“Make our drinks?”

“Yes, it’s a bring your own type of establishment.

They don’t have a liquor license.

It’s a private, members-only club.

We’ll make our drinks and relax, maybe dance.

When you’re ready, you’ll change into lingerie and come back to the bar.

You can approach people you’re interested in, or wait for someone to come to you.”

I felt relieved already having some information.

“Thank you, John.

This really is thoughtful, in a weird sort of way.”

“I’m glad you think so,” he said, “because we’re here.”

The place had a gravel parking lot and looked like an old house with a large addition, which had no windows.

A privacy fence surrounded the backside of the property.

There were no signs indicating it was a business of any kind.

It was very inconspicuous.

After we parked, he grabbed both our bags and the cooler he brought, not allowing me to carry anything.

We went in the front door of what looked like a very large, albeit midlevel home.

We were greeted by a lady in lingerie and thigh-high boots.

We filled out membership cards, indicating our promise to abide by the rules and not to talk about the

club to outsiders.
