that it was to ask for a divorce, but deep inside -' she shook her

head. 'I think I always knew what the outcome would be.'

'And what will it be?' His voice was very hushed suddenly.

She smiled and got to her feet. 'It's too early to say. But who

knows? You might have to chain me to your wrist for the next nine

months, after all.'

She only took one step towards him. He came more, much more

than halfway to meet her, lifting her off the ground into the strength

of his embrace, crushing her mouth under his. His face was

remorseful when he released her.

'God,
anwylwd,
your arm! I haven't hurt you, have I?'

'What are you suggesting? That I should keep you at arm's length

for the next six weeks?' The eyes that she lifted to his face were

alive with love and laughter.

'Heaven forbid!' He drew her close again, his lips exploring hers

with total possessiveness. Then he picked her up bodily and carried

her over to the rocking chair, seating himself with her curled on his

lap. 'I have a confession to make to you, Davina.'

'Is it about Rhiannon?' she asked, her heart beating faster. 'If it is, I'd

much rather not know.'

He swore. 'It is not about Rhiannon. She happens to be my cousin

and a nice, though rather mixed-up kid. But I don't love her and I

never had the slightest intention of marrying her.'

'But you said ...'

'No, you jumped to a conclusion,
cariad.
I said my wife-to-be was

still rather young. And so you are, my darling heart. You were my

wife, Davina, even when we were miles apart. There was never

room in my life for anyone else.'

'Is that the confession?'

'No.' He hesitated. 'That involves someone else—your uncle, as a

matter of fact. I've been in touch with him on and off for about a

year now. I made no secret of the fact that I still loved you and

wanted you back, and I knew he was on my side. There is a new

book,
cariad,
though it's still in my head as yet, and the American

tour was broached months ago. He thought he might be able to use

it somehow to bring us together—and you played right into his

hands.'

'You pair of fiends!' She pummelled at his chest with her clenched

fist and Gethyn captured it laughing and carried it to his lips. His

eyes were warm and sensuous as they looked into hers and she felt

the answering tide of a desire she had no longer any need or reason

to conceal beginning to sweep over her.

'This place,' he murmured, 'is far from being the ideal honeymoon

retreat. It's spartan to say the least and its mod. cons, are neither

modern nor particularly convenient. On the other hand, we shall be

alone here, which we wouldn't be at Plas Gwyn.' He paused. 'I

bought Plas Gwyn for you,
anwylyd,
and for our children, but it's

Rhiannon's home too until she marries, and Aunt Beth's. Will you

mind too much?'

'I don't know,' she told him honestly. 'But don't let's create

difficulties before they arise. As long as I have you, everything else

is unimportant.'

'You have me.' His mouth rested on hers with an eternal pledge.

'And at last my love, my wife, I have you.'
