The idea that a friend or a neighbor might have been behind the attack sent a chill right down her spine. If Max and Jack hadn’t stumbled to safety on her land, she would have died a horrible, agonizing death.

The fear that her innocent neighbors might be on the same hit list spurred Emma into action. The sooner she had this transceiver built, the sooner she could make contact with the outside world. The sixth sense she had developed living in the Outlands told her things were about to get much worse.

Like a thunderstorm rolling in from the east, big changes were coming, and Emma feared the people she loved the most might not survive them.
