The doorbell rang. Once. Twice. Multiple times. Then the knocking began.

"SSSSSabrinnna!" he bellowed.

Terrified he would wake the neighbours Sabrina ran to the door. She opened it a crack and peered out at him. "What?"

"I wannnnna, to come in."

"No." Sabrina attempted to close the door, but he put his foot in the way and pushed his weight against the door. Sabrina was knocked backward and he quickly made his swift entry.

With an annoying lopsided grin on his face, Oliver stepped through the threshold.

"My God Oliver, you drove here? You need to leave, right now. Sabrina put her hands on her hips and glared at him. Now Oliver, get out!" she shrieked pointing to the open door. "Now," she repeated when she noticed that he was not moving a muscle.

Oliver took a few swigs from the bottle he had with him, then cursing under his breath when he realized it was empty.

"Oliver?"

His head snapped up to look at her, a look of clarity came over his face. "I. We. We.

We. Need to talk."

"We have nothing to talk about Oliver."

He took a few steps toward her attempting to take her into his arms.

Batting at his hands Sabrina stepped backward out of arms reach.

Oliver looked down at the floor for a moment as if gathering his thoughts. When he looked back up his expression had taken on a menacing look.

Sabrina's could feel her heart begin to beat faster. She had only seen this expression on him once before. Years ago, their senior year of high school. A male friend of hers had made the mistake of trying to kiss her at a party they were both attending. When Oliver found out later that evening from a pal of his who had seen it happen, Oliver had tracked down the boy and laid a beating on him.

The boy had been hospitalized for several days and Oliver arrested. The charges were eventually dropped and the incident forgotten. Oliver was the school's golden boy and from a predominant family so the incident ended up being swept under the carpet, blame laid on the alcohol and out-of-control male hormones. Boys will be boys and all that.

He had never looked at her with that menacing look before, even when she punched him a couple of weeks prior. She wasn't sure what was different about tonight, but for the first time since he'd known Oliver, he scared her.

Oliver started walking towards Sabrina once more.

****

Several hours after Sabrina left the studio Victor started getting a bad feeling. He couldn't seem to pinpoint it, but there was something wrong. His mind kept bringing him back to Sabrina. That may not have been unusual, but his mind wasn't giving him images of her gorgeous naked body under his, but something more heinous.

Dismissing the thoughts as simple delusions, he headed to his mini bar and pulled himself out a bottle of blood. Perhaps a good stiff drink of blood would clear up his mind at bit.

Taking a seat on the office sofa his eyes searched out the picture of Sabrina framed over his desk. He kept reminding himself that he did the right thing, she was better off.

Besides she was the one that told
him
she wasn't interested, not the other way around.

Truth be known he wasn't sure if he would have been strong enough to be the one to end it.

It wasn't until he finished off the bottle and dropping it into the trash that he heard it.

More accurately, he heard
her
. She was screaming. She was scared.

He stood in the center of his office frozen, unsure as to why he was hearing her but he was. She was in trouble. Closing his eyes he tried to concentrate on her image in his mind. It was fuzzy at first but slowly she was coming into focus.

She was home. Someone else was with her.

Focus Victor, focus
, he coached himself. Since he rarely jumped into a human's mind it was harder than it should have been for him to connect with her.

Then, finally, he had her. She was on the sofa and someone was on top of her. A man was forcing himself on her!

Instinct took over and the feral vampire in him emerged. His fangs dropped into place and eyes turned blood red. In the blink of an eye he was gone from the office. Not even bothering to take his car he sprinted at lightening speeds towards Sabrina's house.

****

Sabrina screamed as Oliver tore at her clothing, trying to remove her boxer shorts. Her knee came up and caught him squarely in the groin. He doubled over in pain as she attempted to free herself from under him.

Oliver was having none of it. He gritted his teeth and pounced again.

Sabrina closed her eyes as she let out another scream, beating at his chest with her fists.

Then he was gone.

Sabrina went still on the sofa a moment, eyes still closed. Perhaps it was a bad dream.

A gurgling sound brought her back to the reality of the situation. It wasn't a dream.

She opened her eyes and gasped.

There was Victor naked from the waist up holding Oliver by the neck against the opposite wall of the room. Oliver was twisting under his grasp, his hands frantically clawing at Victor's arm.

"Give me one reason why I shouldn't rip your head off of her shoulders," Victor roared.

"Victor!" Sabrina screamed out to him.

His hand relaxed slightly on Oliver's neck as he turned to look her.

"Oh my." Sabrina stumbled off the sofa and stepped backwards. Victor’s eyes had changed from the black they normally were to a deep vibrant red; she also caught a quick glimpse of fangs.

Oh-my-God!

They stood looking at each other for a long moment. A scream from the television caught both of their attention. On the screen, a vampire had just sunk his fangs into the neck of an unsuspecting female.

Sabrina's head shot from the television to Victor and back to the television. Her fingertips touched the spot on her neck that she had seen the two puncture wounds that morning.

She took a couple more steps backward until she was almost out of the room. She had a look of fear on her face, as her eyes gave him a look of complete disbelief.
Vampires
are just fiction, they didn’t exist in the real world
, she tried to convince herself.

It was starting to dawn on her, the pieces of the puzzle falling into place for her. The puncture wounds, the dreams, the intensity between them, his perfectly sculpted body that always seemed to be cool to the touch. Now he happened to be showing up just when she needed him, as if he was psychic?

Victor released Oliver.

Oliver dropped to the floor coughing and rubbing his neck.

Victor and Sabrina continued to stare at each other. Victor's fangs retracted and his eyes slipped back to the normal black color that she was used to.

He took a step slowly towards her. "Sabrina. Look, I can explain."

"What are you?" She whispered, taking a step back for every step forward he took.

Before he could answer, Oliver got to his feet and ran from the house, without another word to either of them. The incident with Victor apparently sobering him up to know he needed out, fast. Seconds later, they heard his car engine roar to life and the tires squeal as he made a quick getaway.

"It's not what you think," he started.

"It's not?" Her hands went to her hips as she summoned every ounce of courage she had in her. He wouldn't hurt her, she didn't know why, but she knew it.

He sighed, "Ok, so it's, it's a little bit what you think."

"You bit me!" she cried, her hand went back to her neck. She shook her head slowly in disbelief.

He looked around nervously. "Just a little taste. That was all, I swear to you."

She opened her mouth to speak again, but he interrupted, "however I did just save you." He crossed his arms over his chest a smug grin took over his face.

Sabrina had no idea what to do or think at this point. She had a real, live vampire standing in the middle of her living room. Surprisingly enough she felt no real fear of him. Anger yes; fear no.

Despite her anger, she couldn't help but think about how sexy he looked standing there, half naked and looking smug.
Damn, what's wrong with me? He's a vampire! I
shouldn't be thinking that way about him...

Her mind was twirling. So much information was coming at her so quickly, but at the same time she felt alright with it. It made no sense, not even her reaction to what he was made sense. She should be terrified, running from the house in horror. But she wasn't and wouldn't.

She crossed her arms over her chest, mimicking him. "So do you normally invade women's dreams for a week, bite them, and dump them?" She glared at him accusingly.

"I
did not
dump you." Acting wounded, he unfolded his arms so he could point a finger at her. "
You
dumped
me
." He gave her a quick nod as if to make his point.

As she thought about it, she realized he was right.

She sighed, walked over to the front door, closed it then made her way back into the living room. She brushed past him and flopped herself onto the sofa. She had no idea what to think about the whole situation. People went to see therapists for less than what she was dealing with currently.

"So the dreams, they were... real?"

He hesitated for a moment and flopped down beside her. "They were real."

Sabrina frowned. "How? I don't understand..."

He sighed. "A rare power some vampires have is that that can dreamwalk. We focus on someone and can enter the persons' dreams. We can't alter the dream, but we can appear and influence the dreamer."

They sat silently for several minutes, side by side, both digesting everything that had just transpired.

"So what do we do now?" Sabrina finally broke the silence with the question both of them had floating around in their minds.

Victor sat back into the sofa and draped an arm across her shoulders. She followed his gaze to the television. "I think we relax. Watch a tacky vampire marathon on television,"

he paused for a moment then cautioned, "keep in mind I will be incredibly annoying since I'll feel the need continually interrupt the movie to give the real facts about vampires as we go along."

She frowned. "Can this work? Can
we
work?"

Victor took a deep breath in and released it slowly. "I don't know. What I do know is that I need to find out. I wanted to let you go, but I don't think I can Sabrina."

This was crazy, and reckless and insane. But at the same time she wanted to learn about him. She was drawn to him and she needed to know why. No, she couldn't let him go, she didn't want to.

Looking up into his eyes, she gave him a soft smile. "Then don't go," she whispered.

As they looked deeply into each other's eyes she realized that no matter what obstacles presented themselves for them in the future, they would find a way to work through it.

The future would work itself out. For now, what mattered was how she felt at that moment with Victor beside her. She felt something she hadn't felt in a long time and it was thanks to him. True happiness.

Chapter 1

Lance eyed Gina as she examined the alleyway below him. There was no moon visible in the night sky making it an especially dark night. Due to the darkness, it nearly impossible for her to spot him perched up on the roof of the five story brick building above her. She on the other hand was in plain view thanks to the street lamps at both ends of the alleyway, and of course his keen night vision. It was one of the many benefits of being a vampire.
