“The accord was spotted on Vesta St coming from Harbor. An air unit is following.” The officer announced.

“That’s right up here on the right. GO!” The car hit the corner, sliding to a stop to cut any exit paths off. The green accord came flying towards them with no intention to stop. Greg drew his gun. The car stopped several feet from the squad car. “GET OUT CARPENTER NOW!” The door opened and he stepped out.

“Hey Detective.” He greeted.

“Where the hell is she?”

“Who? The bitch?” An evil smile broke out. Greg’s finger gripped his trigger. “You kill me and you’ll never find her.” His finger loosen.

“You bastard.” The sirens wailed in the distance.

“So what’cha gon do Detective?” Their back up had arrived. “I’m ready to go in now. My deed is done.” Greg balled his fist and swung hitting Ty in the jaw. The officer with him slapped on the handcuffs and read him his rights.

Three weeks had past and still no signs of Tammy. The Peña family was on his ass with calls day and night. Miguel was the worst of them all. He continued to sulk in his car on the way to the prison. The DA finally gave him permission to see if he could finally get the confession they were waiting for. The ache in his gut told him that she was already dead, but he ignored it. The guard waved him through the front gate after he showed his badge. He missed his daughter as he had to let her stay with her mother as he continued to work the case. Once this was over, he would take her on a trip. He pulled into the visitor parking and cut the car. He took a deep breath and exhaled. He didn’t want to stare Ty in the face in the small room. He’d probably wind up shooting the motherfucker. He glanced at Caitlyn’s picture in his visor and got out. They searched him thoroughly inside then placed him in an interrogation room. He sat there for ten minutes before he saw the guard leading Ty in.

“Sit.” Ty sat down and the guard stood in the back of the room.

“Detective.” He sneered.

“You look well. Adjusting? Not becoming a prison bitch yet have we?”

“I’m Ty muthafuckin’ Carpenter. Ain’t no one tryin’ shit! What the fuck you want?”

“Where is she?” He asked with a straight face.

“Don’cha mean where the body at?” Fear crept up on him.

“What did you do?”

She finally came back with Ty finishing up on her. Her face swelling by the minute. He released in her and pulled out.

“What this shit?!” He yelled, referring to the blood on him.

“You killed our baby. Just please…let me go.”

“Begging ain’t helping you.” She kicked him and bit his shoulder. “OWWA!” His fist landed a punch to her head. The punch dazed her and the rushing blood made it worst. She opened the door and fell out of the car. She found the handle and pulled herself up. The air was cool and still.

“Help!” She limped away from the car as fast as she could. Ty came around the car, tackling her to the ground. He straddled her and choked her. She gasped violently for air. “Ty-stop.” She grabbed at his hands. She started to blackout. “Ple-ase.” He kept squeezing until her throat snapped. Her body went limp and he let her go. He grabbed her legs and dragged her lifeless body towards the water. Kicking her in, he smiled when her body hit the water causing a splash.

“She died whining about that baby and begged me to let her go.” Ty finished. Greg stopped the recorder and motion to the guard.

“That’ll be all here. Get him out of here.”

“You cared about her didn’t you? I can tell by your eyes.”

“Doesn’t matter anymore does it? You killed her. How could you take her away from the people who loved her?”

“Someone I loved was taken away from me.”

“Is that your way of trying to justify what you did?!”

“Good-bye Detective.” Ty stood, leaving with the guard. Greg took the new information and went straight to the DA. Right after, they went over to the site to recover Tammy’s body. He sent a text to Miguel to meet him there to identify. So there they stood for two hours, the DA, Greg and Miguel as the dive team searched the water. With each minute that past, Greg felt himself getting nauseous.

“OVER HERE!” The boat moved over to the diver. The body was hoisted out of the water. Greg staggered and looked down as the body broke water. The boot on her broken leg was unmistakable.

“Mr. Peña?”

“That’s her.” He said in a quiet voice. “Por que? Por que?” Greg wanted to ask the same thing. His stomach churned as he walked away. He finally closed his case.
