Chapter 7

Madison tossed down her script. It was getting close to her shooting date and these lines where driving her crazy. She been making callings, learning lines, and arranging her things for her location.

“Tammy, if I learn anymore lines, I will explode. Why the hell did I sign on for a cop drama?” Tammy set down her remote.

“You know it’s a good role, which will get you more exposure.”

“Not to be rude, but I won an Oscar. How much more exposure do a bitch needs?”

“Well listen here chica. This is Hollywood. One minute you hot and the next you not. You know that better than anybody, but you are here at my house, so shut up with all that. I barely get to see yo ass anymore, so let’s enjoy our time together.”

“True.”

“So have you started on your wedding plans?”

“Ugh don’t get me started on those. The thought hasn’t crossed my mind yet?”

“Have you told Josefina?”

“No I need to. She will really want in on the planning.”

“You didn’t tell your mama. Mattie what is you on?! You always tell the mom and best friend first.” She snapped. “Those are the rules.”

“Well how about I go see mama after I leave you. Bien?”

“Yes. Now come to my room so I can show you what I picked up from that new boutique that opened up.” They walked to the back of the house and Tammy pulled out a fiery skin hugging dress. “See here it is. Only three hundred flat.”

“For that? You did get a good deal.” Tammy smiled and placed the dress back in the closet.

“One of these days, we go out and Ima wear the hell out that dress.” She preened.

“Don’t let my mama find out you praising dresses that’s not from her store.”

“Shh. Don’t tell her. I don’t want her to cut me off. I still love her clothes.” Tammy begged playfully. Madison shook her head.

“I’m going to make a stop by my mama.”

“You do that.” She smiled and went up front to collect her things.

“I’ll call you later.” Madison left Tammy’s and pulled up to her parent’s house twenty minutes later. The rain was still falling nonstop. She cut off the car and ran through the rain to the front door. She knocked twice and her father answered the door.

“Mom here?”

“Yeah in the back.” He sidestepped, letting her in.

“Mom?” She called towards the hallway. “Mom?” She turned to Nick. “I thought you said she was here.” He just shrugged. “Mom? Forget it I’ll call later.” She said, going for the door.

“Your little boyfriend has be stalking me. Why?”

“The hell should I know. What did you do?”

“I did nothing. Your mother is upstairs.” Madison sighed aloud and went up the stairs to their room.

“Mom?” The room was empty. Madison’s heart quickened. She knew she had been made. The door slammed shut behind her. She turned and Nick was in front of the door. “She’s not even here.”

“You tell your thug to stay away from me. I’m great at sending messages too.” He threatened.

“I’m famous now if you kill me they’ll know I’m missing.” He merely shook his head.

“Oh princess I won’t kill you.” A smirk went across his face as he loosened his tie.
Run!
A voice screamed. She went for the door and he smacked her across the face that sent her flying to the ground.

“Please just let me leave.”

“You little bitch.” He walked to her, pulling his tie straight. She turned over to protect her face while he jumped on her, wrapping the tie around her neck. He sniffed her hair. “Mhh, you smell so good. I could do it you know. You always too weak to fight back. I could take you right now like I used to do.” He sneered.

“You-sick-fuck.” She choked out. The tie tightened more. Her hands clawed out his hands. “I can’t --BREATHE! Let go!” He released the tie, dropping her head to the floor. She gasped for air. He stood up and pulled her up by the hair. Her screams could be heard through the heavy solid door. The beating sound could be heard throughout the house. The fist connecting with flesh. The horrible screams mix with the sounds of things breaking.

“Whore!” He slammed her against the wall and she kneed him as hard as she could. He crumpled and she made a break for the door. Flinging it open, she ran towards the stairs. Barely able to stay conscious, she made her way downstairs. His words taunting her on the way out as she grabbed her bag. She got in her car and punched in the first number she could think of.

“Hello? Hey girl you tell your mom yet?”

“My dad just tried to kill me.”

“What?! Matttie?! Mattie?!” The line went dead.

Ty stood waiting while the Inspector finished checking his limo.

“Come on Sam. Why you gotta bust my ass. You know my ride good.” She smiled at him.

“Good try smooth talker. I still have to make sure the important stuff is there. Save those skills though. You too cute and could get a woman in trouble.”

“Am I good Ms. Sam?” She checked her clipboard.

“Yes you look fine sir.” She placed her hand on his shoulder. I mean that both ways.” He laughed and swatted her away.

“Can’t do that anymore. I’m taken remember.”

“Of course. How is Madison? She seems like a busy person.”

“You can say that. I barely have time with her now.”

“Hang in there. I’m sure it will get better.”

              “Hope so.”

“It will.” She gave him a kiss on the forehead. “Gary I hope you’re ready.” She yelled across the garage. Ty watched her walked away. She still was something to look at. If it wasn’t for Madison, he would be all on that. His phone vibrated.

              “Carpenter.”

              “Has Mattie called you?”

“No she haven’t. You okay Tammy you sound off.”

“She called me after she went to her parents to tell Josefina of the engagement. She called me freaking out that her dad tried to kill her. She hasn’t been drinkin’ again has she?”

“Wha----at?! Did she tell you where she was?” he questioned.

              “I don’t know she didn’t say.”

“I’m going over there.” He ended the call and left the garage. He pulled up to her parents’ house. Instead of knocking, he kicked opened the door and went inside. “Mattie?”  The downstairs showed no signs of struggle. He went up the stairs and the hallway was destroyed. His nostrils flared at the body shaped hole in the wall. It was small and feminine. “Son of a bitch.”

“What are you doing here? What have you done to my house?”

“I didn’t do anythin’. I’m lookin’ fo’ Mattie. She came over here and your...she never told you did she?”

“Tell me what Ty? What’s going on?”

“Madison got drunk a while back and admitted her own father used to rape her.” He told her.

“He would never do something like that!”

“Don’t tell me you’re one of those mothers. I seen enough of that shit in the hood. She came over here to tell you somethin’ and somethin’ happened to her. Now me or Tammy don’t know where she at.” The door closed downstairs and footsteps was coming up the stairs.

“Is that him?” She nodded. Nick appeared at the top of the stairs.

“Nick how could you?! She’s our daughter!” Josefina screamed.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“How the hell you get that busted lip. huh? What did you do to her?”

“I didn’t touch the little bitch.” Ty ran at him, knocking them both down the stairs. They landed at the bottom and Ty stood over him, punching him in the face.

“Ty! No!” Josefina pulled him off. “She was thirteen Nick. What were you playing at, huh? You fuckin’ pervert! If I don’t find my child, I swear I’ll kill you. Get out!” she screamed. Nick stood to his feet.

“You not believing this shit are you?” She reached into a nearby table drawer and pulled out sewing scissors. She lunged forward, stabbing him repeatedly until he yelled, falling to the floor. Ty’s eyes widened at the scene.

“Mrs. Parks no!” He grabbed her and the scissors. She broke down in his arms and cried, dropping the scissors.

“Oh god!” she sobbed. “What have I done?!”

“It’s okay. Calm down. I’ll call 911.” He reached into his pocket. His hand, shaking as he punched the numbers.

“Ty what have I done?!” The operator picked up and Ty gave her the address.

“They’re on their way.” He consoled her shaking frame until paramedics and the police arrived. An Officer squatted down in front of them.

“Ma’am are you able to tell me what happened here?” Josefina sat up.

              “I -I stabbed him...with those scissors.”

“Did he hurt you?” She shook her head.

“No...our daughter since she was thirteen. I just found out. I feel like a horrible mother.”

“He still has a pulse.” An EMT announced. Josefina exhaled loudly and more tears fell.

“Okay ma’am let’s go to the station to make an official statement. We also need to get a statement from your daughter so if everything checks out we will be able to charge him.”

“Yes.” Ty helped her up and she turned to him. “Ty please find my daughter.”

“Yes ma’am.” Josefina walked out with the cop, leaving Ty alone. He looked down at his bloody, shaking hands and asked himself was this all worth it. Was Madison worth all this drama? A blocked number came up on his phone. “Hello?” Silence came from the other line. “Hello? Madison is this you? Hello?!” The line went dead.

Ty sat in his apartment, trying to put pieces together on where she could have possibly gone. Josefina was counting on him to find her daughter and save her from attempted murder charges. Knocking interrupted his thinking. He got up and answered the door.

“Hey Ty.” Samantha greeted.

“Sam. Hey come in.” She came in and he closed the door. “What are you doin’ here?”

“Gary told me you called off. I was coming over to check on you. Is that okay?”

“Yeah. Thanks. Fo’ real, I’m dealin’ wit’ alotta shit right now.”

“Anything I can do to help?” she offered.

“Not at this moment.”

“Well let me at least fix you some food and pick up around here.”

“Thanks.” She smiled and went to his kitchen area, looking through his cabinets. He watched her closer as she cooked. The smell made his stomach growl. It was nice having a woman in his place, cooking for him. Madison, never cooked.
