She slid forward, grabbed his shoulders to keep from falling forward

until his balls were sated and empty. Brook was losing her grip, sweat and

exhaustion finally taking its toll, but he was there.

He kept his cock inside her, stretched the sore pathway as he wrapped

his arms around her torso and evened their position so they were upright. A

dizzy spell caused her eyes to close but she felt them move, heard his wings

and the harsh rays of the sun eased. Her feet never touched the ground. Instead,

she heard voices and opened her eyes to Carrick carrying her onto that

sunflower. “I really do love sunflowers.”

He grinned down at her, laid her supine and then joined her. She

cuddled close, exhaustion kicking her ass but that was okay because Carrick

was right beside her.

An Ireland sunrise was one of the most precious sights. The colors

were astounding, the smell intoxicating, but it also meant he survived another

day.

Keyn sat quietly beneath the willow tree as the first rays of sunshine

peeked over the green hills. Another day alive was a win in his book. He could

hear the grunts of Bray and Flance. They must have decided to spend the night

on the sunflower again. A few times, he caught a glimpse of naked flesh and

fairy wings.

It made him too jealous to watch his friend enjoy life but another

sunrise greeted and he was here to watch it. Soon, the kingdom, what few there

were, would awake to a new day. A new problem would arise as well as the

old ones. What did it matter to him? He killed trolls, managed not to kill

himself and hoped to see another sunrise. What more was there to this life? Of

course, he couldn’t see like he used to. The scar that marred the right side of

his face took some of his vision, too. The only good thing about today was his

lack of nightmares last night. He didn’t wake up in a cold sweat, his wings

were still attached and he was not at the mercy of cruel humans.

Keyn closed his eyes, inhaled the fresh air and broke into a smile. Like

he did every morning, he smiled for the sake of it and prayed to the Goddess.

He tucked his long black hair behind his back, clasped his hands and spread his

red and black wings. His breathing slowed, his heart thumped into an easy

rhythm. He was free, he was a full-grown man now, and he was safe.

He listened intently to the little things. A bird on a branch, the leaves

wavered and the fast creeks of that sunflower. The moans of ecstasy slowed

and ceased.

More birds rose with the sun, twerps, tweets and coos sounded high

above. The bird on that branch puffed up its chest and settled near hungry baby

birds. A small snake gave up on its dinner and slithered off. He could smell

rain, the smallest chance of it, and opened his eyes to see the dark clouds

quickly float away.

At the flutter of satisfied fairies returning to a happy home, he turned

and watched their naked backsides as they flew away. All this drifted through

his mind, but what stood out was the crunch of a branch. A single, quiet

resonance that was not an ordinary, morning sound.

His eyes lowered to slits, they scanned the area and spotted the snake

furiously speeding from its hiding spot. Keyn’s sword was always near, as was

his knife. It took moments for him to grab the blade and lift into the air. He

landed near the trees with a thud, hoping the intruder would run and reveal his

presence. His hand tightened, ready for action, but no other sound breached.

He had no doubt it was an intruder. Even if he couldn’t see it. He

waited a full minute, eighty or so heartbeats and shifted. No footprints were

obvious, but he was not as good a tracker as Thame. Still, there should be some

sign and he had yet to notice even one. Keyn returned to the kingdom, his

blade still exposed. To both protect his king and never become a victim again.

It was another morning; she felt the sun on her face, the wind in her

hair. Brook opened her eyes to the beauty that suddenly entered her world.

Here she was lying around while the whole day passed by. Thankfully, she

wasn’t alone.

Beside her laid Carrick, naked and asleep. She smiled, kissed his bare

shoulder and walked to the open balcony doors. The strange dream was about

living here with him. She was nothing but a doormat, no job, no money,

nothing but the man that loved her. Then again, her ex-husband had loved her

for a while; he treated her like gold and then dirt under his shoe. Brook leaned

against the doorframe, the rising sun fading to her memory.

The day she told him she passed the bar was the happiest moment in

her life. There was such a feeling of accomplishment and he asked what was

for dinner. Her smile had faded, her happiness squished under his cruel boot.

She gave it time, he’d adjust, he’d accept.

Brook couldn’t believe how naive she was with him. Her ex made life

worse. He’d leave the house a mess and call her at work during meetings for

the stupidest things.
Honey, where’s my white shirt? Darling, where did you

put the spare keys?
Then he’d hit her. That was the last straw, the moment he’d slapped her face in anger. The one night she came home late, exhausted from

that damn murder trial, and he yelled at her.

He bitched and moaned until she told him to go fuck off. She looked

away from the scenery before her, to the floor. He’d hit her so hard she fell to

the floor stunned. She wasn’t one of those women, those victims that accepted

apologizes and continued the violent cycle. No, she had grabbed her cheek and

kicked him in the balls. There was something satisfying about hearing nuts

squish and a man scream. The bastard had never touched her again. Then she

divorced and finally she moved here, away from it all to start over. Only she

found a new guy, a fairy man. Did she really want to give up her chance at her

own life to live here?

“You look sad.”

His voice penetrated the fog in her mind. “I’m just thinking.”

“Nothing happy.” His arms wrapped around her, giving her the comfort

she needed.

“What would I do if I stayed here? I can’t just sit around.”

“What do you want to do?”

“Well, I’m a lawyer. Not much demand for that around here.”

“You could paint, you could explore, you could design, decorate, you

can do whatever you want to do.”

Now what made him say design? She leaned back, rested her head on

his warm shoulder. “Design rooms, houses?” She wouldn’t have to worry

about what people thought. She would be a queen. They’d have to like it. The

thought made her smile.

“If that’s your wish…” His lips landed delicately on her neck. “Brook,

as we spend more time together, I…I’m very much…falling in love with you.”

Chapter Six

Those three little words had all her thoughts hitting a rock wall. She

turned in his arms and saw the smile on his face. He was serious. “You don’t

just want to have babies with me.”

“I’d like that too, but it’s not a guarantee. You may not be able to

conceive, this is simply a theory that mating with human women will produce

offspring.”

“If that’s the case, if you’re in dire need of more fairies why don’t you

seduce a few women? You’d have more children.”

Carrick frowned. “Mord has been saying that for years. I don’t want all

the human women or even a handful. I just want one. You.”

What was a woman going to say to that? She settled for nothing and

kissed him instead. Their touch of lips was intense even though she tried to

keep it tender and swift. Any longer and she’d jump on his cock right now.

Brook glanced down; his loincloth showed he was at least prepared for that

plan. His erection stood proud, so close she could reach out to touch his dick.

“Sir!”

Mord again, he always seemed to interrupt. “What?” He rolled his eyes

and kissed her shoulder.

Brook’s eyes widened, she was naked. She turned and hauled ass to get

behind Carrick’s frame as the other fairy approached.

“We’re having problems with the Trolls again.”

“Another attack?” He stiffened beneath her touch and grabbed the

loincloth near his feet to cover his throbbing cock from the other fairies sight.

“No sir, but lots of movement.”

He turned to her, holding her cheeks in his hand and they were not the

ones on her face. She bit her lips and felt his finger slid past her rear hole and

right into her core. There was no escaping the moan.

“I’ll be back…”

“I know.” She stuck her tongue out and he gladly caught it and kissed

her silent. Brook watched him leave, forgetting about her worries as the sun

finally graced the world.

It was a risk having all the fairies in one room, but none of them dared

to stray from this meeting. The oddly shaped room was round and never lost

that musty smell from the tapestries. Bark-colored walls were filled with the

woven threads that depicted their history. Now, it remained barren as bare

chested men filled the room as each took their seat.

Sword holders lay across their backs, but Carrick was the only one with

a tented loincloth. Brook was such a beautiful distraction. A single table

brought them together. The king’s chair at the head was rightfully adorned

with carved wings and gems embedded. Each took their seat with the exception

of Whisper. If the man wanted to stay on patrol then at least they wouldn’t be

totally defenseless. Their king stood and tried to address them all with a firm

tone.

“The Trolls are our first concern. They grow bolder, more strategic and

I fear for the safety of the kingdom.” He turned to Mord. “Will Brielle and you

return to the palace? It’s much safer should there be an all out attack.

“I do not fear an attack of such proportions, sir,” he murmured, never

catching the king’s eye.

“Then you are a fool, my friend, but I grant you permission to flee with

your love should there be a violent event.” Both men nodded. “Wick, I’d like

you to ask around with your contacts. See if anything has heard something on

their plans.”

“We should go kick down their door and ask them ourselves.” Mord

spoke.

“No, we should give Whisper permission to wipe them out,” Flance

said as he held Bray’s hand. “He can obliterate them all while we work on our

reproduction issue.”

“Enough.” Carrick held up his hand. “The trolls are…a nuisance but

they have a right to live as any other creature. Not all of them are trying to gain

control of the kingdom, only a select few…”

“That increases every year. Soon they will have no problem taking the

land they want so badly want.” Flance again, he looked to the king with

pleading eyes. “Please sir; this is no time for decency or mercy.”

“It is also not a time to wipe out an entire species.” Carrick interrupted.

“We will figure out their plans, keep this territory defended and try to conquer

this offspring problem. We will teach our children to fight, the next generation

will learn to protect our lands and the trolls will no longer be an issue.” No

fairy dared to interrupt or contradict the king. He was rather happy with this

title at the moment. “We must be more vigilant. If they intend to be more

aggressive then we may kill, but that has to be a last resort.”

“I agree with the king.” Bray stood.

Carrick nodded and she returned to her seat. Now, for the words he’d

been dreading. “Brook has yet to agree to be my queen.”

Keyn rolled his eyes. “She’ll say yes.”

“I do hope so.” He returned to the throne. “If she indeed accepts the

invitation for queen, we will have the celebration and try for a child. There

must be proof that our sperm will meld with humans. I know the rumors, the

theories, but it must be proved.”

“…And what of us?” Wick spoke softly.

“Then…we will create a schedule, each fairy will roam topside and

search for his other half. Mord seems to believe they will be drawn here just as

Brook was. You just have to wait for her arrival.”

“Easy for you to say, you’re bedding a woman every night.” Wick

whispered loud enough for them to hear. A few snickers escaped and Carrick

grinned.

“Yes, I am and if all goes well, so will you. Maybe you should draw a

lady’s lips on your hand until a woman tames you.” This time male laughter

broke the tension, a few snorted and Flance gladly threw a human pen to the

man. That was better than hostility. “We can do this.” He walked slowly

around the wooden table that centered the meeting. “We’re fairies, we’ve

endured longer than any creature in existence and we will not be defeated.”

Hollers rang out and the mood lightened. It bade well on their strength of

character. Together they would survive this atrocity.

Brook spent the hours relaxing. She found that park with the waterfall,

thanks to a good sense of direction. Then he threw her clothes off, well

everything except her panties and lay in the sun. Hell, there were only a few

people, fairies, in this entire kingdom, so privacy was not a big issue. Green

vines grew along the dirt path, trees graced this area with spots of shade and
