“Fuck,” Duncan growled. “You’re so tight.”

“Need. More. Harder. Move.” He couldn’t think clear enough to link a whole sentence together, not with Duncan’s thick musk of arousal surrounding him.

Duncan held Toby’s hips in a bruising grip as he moved. His rhythm was fast and furious as he thrust deep inside of Toby’s ass over and over again. Toby rocked his hips in time with Duncan’s thrusts, pleasure racing through his veins as he was pushed closer to release.

Leaning forward, Duncan bit Toby’s shoulder, marking him. He didn’t break the skin like a shifter’s bite would, but the sentiment was the same.
You’re mine.
Toby jerked as he came. He writhed against the bed, his cum spilling onto his stomach. One more plunge of his hips and Duncan roared, filling Toby with his warm spunk.

“I love you,” he whispered. Toby wrapped his arms around Duncan’s neck, holding his mate close.

“I love you, too.”

Time seemed to stop as they clung to one another. The tears he’d been holding back spilled down his cheeks without his permission. He buried his face against Duncan’s neck wondering how he’d been able to live without Duncan by his side. The walls he’d built up over the last three years crumbled down, exposing his battered heart. The organ came back to life, beating for his mate.

Duncan pulled back and stared down at him. He wiped the tears from Toby’s cheeks.

“Don’t cry, my love.”

Toby sniffled. “I’ve been dreaming about you for so long that it’s hard to believe you’re really here.”

“I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere,” he vowed.

“I’ve made so many mistakes.” Toby took a shaky breath. “I should’ve been honest from the start. All of this could’ve been avoided if I would’ve followed my instincts.”

“Could’ve, would’ve, should’ve…” Duncan shook his head. “We all have regrets, but we live in the past. We need to focus on the future.”

“It’s just…” Toby’s eyes filled with tears. “I don’t even know how I survived without you.”

Duncan dropped down beside him and pulled Toby against his chest. He wrapped his arms around Toby and threw his leg over Toby’s hip, protectively. Toby leaned into his mate.

* * * *

“Everything’s going to be okay,” Duncan told him. He wasn’t sure if it was true, but it seemed like the right thing to say at this moment. “I’m here now, and I’m not going anywhere.”

Toby’s entire body shuddered. His breathing was shaky as tears fell freely against Duncan’s chest. He tightened his hold, wishing there was a way for him to take Toby’s pain away.

“It’s okay, love, let it out.”

“I can’t live without you.”

His blunt nails sank into Duncan’s chest. Duncan sat up, leaning against the headboard. He pulled Toby onto his lap so that he could hold him. He wrapped his larger frame around his mate, surrounding him completely. He gently rocked side to side, hoping the rhythm might calm Toby. After several minutes, the sobs died down and Toby’s body went lax in Duncan’s arms. Toby wiped his face with the back of his hand. He looked up at Duncan, his eyes red and swollen.

“Let’s leave, right now.”

“We can’t run away, love. We’re going to FPA headquarters tomorrow. The truth will come out, and then we’ll finally be able to move on with our lives. Besides…” Duncan winked. “I was hoping we could finally get married. I’ve been waiting for a few years to give you my name.”

“Toby
Ó Branagáin,” he whispered.

“I think it sounds nice.”

“Me, too.” Toby smiled.

“Then it’s settled.” Duncan kissed Toby’s forehead. “As soon as this mess is behind us, we’re getting married.”

Toby nodded in agreement. He lifted his face up and puckered his lips. Duncan brought their lips together in a tender kiss, telling Toby without words how much he was loved. Duncan kept their lips connected as he slowly climbed out of bed. He held Toby easily enough, keeping the man glued to his chest.

“Where are we going?” Toby asked, breaking the kiss.

“We’re going to take a bath.”

When he reached the bathroom, Duncan put Toby on his feet. The young man didn’t step away. If anything, he leaned into Duncan as if he couldn’t bear for them to be apart. Duncan kissed the top of Toby’s head. He felt the exact same way.

Reaching into the tub, Duncan turned the hot and cold water on full-blast before adding some bubbles into the mix. Lifting Toby off his feet, Duncan stepped into the bathtub as it continued to fill. He sat down, cradling Toby in his arms, but the man swiftly moved, straddling Duncan’s hips instead. Lifting his hands, he stroked his fingers along Duncan’s chest, tracing his tattoos.

“Have I told you how much I love your ink?”

“I don’t think you’ve seen my new tattoo yet.”

Toby’s brows drew together in concentration as he started searching Duncan’s body. He ran his hands over Duncan’s shoulders, down his arms, and up his abdomen. The soft touch made Duncan moan. He would never tire of Toby’s attention. The young man looked at him as if he were some sort of superhero, and it made Duncan want to be a better man so that he could make Toby proud. That was the only reason he’d cooperated with Interpol and Scotland Yard. He was ready to leave the dangerous aspect of his life in order to better care of Toby.

“I can’t find it,” he pouted, pushing his lower lip out.

Duncan grinned. He couldn’t help it. Toby was just too darn cute. Duncan cupped Toby’s face and pulled him down for a quick kiss before gently nibbling on his plump lower lip.

“Where is it?”

He turned his left hand around, showing Toby his new ink. On his ring finger now sat a Celtic heart to signify his continued fidelity and love for the fiancé he’d thought he lost.

Toby sucked in a sharp breath. “Is that for me?”

“I didn’t have a ring so this was the next best thing.”

“I love it.” Toby ran his fingertip over the intricate design, tracing each line reverently.

“I love you.” He kissed the tip of Toby’s nose.

Reaching over, Duncan shut the water off. He grabbed a bar of soap and dipped it into the water before lathering up his hands. He placed it on the side of the tub and started soaping up Toby’s chest. He took his time, taking care of the man he loved. When he was done, Duncan cupped his hand and scooped up a handful of water, pouring it down Toby’s chest, back, and arms. Toby picked up the bar of soap and mimicked Duncan’s motions, washing him.

“You’re so beautiful,” Duncan told him. He couldn’t seem to say it enough.

Toby fell forward. He connected their lips, slipping his tongue into Duncan’s mouth. He moved his hips, rubbing his growing erection against Duncan’s abs. Duncan groaned. He cupped Toby’s ass, digging his fingertips into the meaty flesh.

“Fuck me,” Toby whispered against his lips.

Duncan slipped a finger down the crease of Toby’s ass. With his seed leaking out of the young man’s hole, Duncan used it as lubricant. He pushed two fingers deep inside Toby’s ass, and Toby whined. It was a desperate little sound that went straight to Duncan’s dick. Toby wrapped his hand around the base of Duncan’s shaft. Rising up out of the water, he lined up Duncan’s cock with his hole and slowly sank down.

“Fuck,” Duncan growled as Toby’s ass swallowed him whole.

Holding Toby’s ass cheeks, Duncan squeezed. Toby started moving, riding Duncan. He closed his eyes, and his lips parted. Duncan stared at him, completely mesmerized.

“Ahhh…Oooh…” He made sweet little sounds as he moved up and down Duncan’s engorged cock.

Toby grabbed hold of Duncan’s shoulders for support as he picked up his pace. He wrapped his right hand around Toby’s erection, jacking the man’s dick as Toby rode him.

“Oh, God…” Toby panted. “Oh fuck! I’m gonna…” Toby’s internal muscles clamped down on Duncan’s cock. Duncan bucked his hips, thrusting deep. “Duncan!” Toby shouted, hot jets of cum shooting on to Duncan’s chest.

Duncan followed his lover over the edge. Muscles flexing, body jerking uncontrollably, Duncan came deep inside Toby’s ass.

Toby opened his eyes. He stared down at Duncan and smiled. “I never loved anyone as much I love you.”

Duncan’s heart clenched. The sincerity in Toby’s voice took his breath away. Nobody had ever loved him. He wasn’t sure what he’d done to deserve Toby, but he knew he’d never take him for granted.

“I love you, too.”

Chapter Nineteen

Axel Lee strode down the hallway toward the conference room. The other agents were already seated around the table when he arrived. He nodded in greeting as he hustled over to his chair and dropped down, focusing on Abram.

“Does anyone know where Toby is?” Abram asked, glancing around the room.

Axel’s brows furrowed. “Maybe he overslept?” Pushing back his chair, he rose to his feet. “I’ll go check on him.”

“I can go,” Graham volunteered.

“I got it.”

“Thanks, Axel.” Abram nodded.

Being the tech guru for the FPA had quite a few advantages. He had eyes and ears everywhere, allowing Axel to hear and see everything that happened within the FPA headquarters and their condo building where all the agents lived. He never meant to eavesdrop on people’s private conversations, but he knew far more than he should about his fellow agents. Secrets he would never share with anyone.

He’d heard Toby talking to Graham on the elevator yesterday evening. The emotion behind each word affected Axel more than he cared to admit. Toby had seemed so lost and vulnerable. It was heart wrenching to listen to, but it also gave Axel insight on the newest member of their team. The young man kept himself at a distance. He preferred to be alone, rather than spend any time with the other agents. Axel now understood the haunted look in the young man’s eyes. He was suffering because he was missing his destined mate.

Axel couldn’t begin to imagine that kind of pain.

When Toby had come down to the tech room late last night, Axel had hoped the young man might confide in him or at least ask for help with his current situation, but that wasn’t the case. Instead, Toby had used some flimsy excuse for needing access to the armory. It was all bullshit. Hell, Axel was a shifter. He could easily sniff out a lie, and Toby hadn’t exactly been guarding his emotions.

“Toby?” Axel called out when the elevator doors opened. “Toby, are you here?”

Axel stepped into the foyer, glancing around. He didn’t want to intrude into Toby’s private sanctuary, but he needed to find the young man. As he started looking around, Axel soon realized the place was empty. Axel wasn’t really surprised. He didn’t think Toby had returned.

“Where are you?” he whispered.

Strolling through the condo, Axel looked for anything that might be out of place. When he spotted Toby’s cellphone and badge sitting on the kitchen counter, he shook his head in disappointment.

“Shit,” he muttered. “Where did you go?”

Axel grabbed Toby’s badge and shoved it into his pocket before heading back to FPA headquarters. Whatever Toby was going through, it was time for the young man to learn that he was part of their team. Axel wasn’t the type to stand back, and neither were the other agents.

When he stepped over the threshold of the conference room, the meeting stopped, all eyes turning toward him.

“He’s not home,” Axel announced.

“Where is he?” Graham asked.

“I don’t know, but I think he might need our help.”

“Help with what?” Abram asked, looking from Axel to Graham, as if waiting for one of them to fill in the blanks.

“Graham?” Axel gave the other lion a pointed look.

“When Toby was eighteen, he went on his first mission. He was recruited by Interpol and Scotland Yard to go undercover in Northern Ireland. He was supposed to get close to a man named
Duncan Ó Branagáin. Duncan is
a breakaway agent, formerly IRA and one of the leaders of the Irish mob.”

“Fuck,” Max breathed out. “He was just a kid.”

“Toby started training when he was six. We rescued him from a rogue that had slaughtered his entire fox skulk. Instead of sending him to a foster home, Toby lived with us. When he was eighteen, he earned his badge. He might look young, but he’s still an agent.”

“What happened?” Abram asked.

“Toby met Duncan, and it turned out that the other man was his mate.”

“This just keeps getting better,” Max said sarcastically.

Graham sighed. “He reported to Interpol, but afterward, he couldn’t do it anymore. The guilt was killing him. But whatever he did report was enough to get Duncan taken into custody. The day they arrested Duncan, they sent Toby back home.”

“And for three years Toby has been separated from his mate,” Axel added.

“That’s fucked up,” Reed muttered.

“Bruno didn’t do anything?” Abram’s voice was laced with anger. “Under the mating law, he could’ve petitioned for Duncan to be treated as a paranormal. There was no need for Toby to suffer.”

“There was nothing Bruno could do,” Graham insisted, slamming his fist against the table. “Toby didn’t mark and claim Duncan. We tried, but Interpol said that Duncan was being held for his own safety. They wouldn’t release him.”

“Something changed last night,” Axel said. “Toby came down here around twelve thirty, and we talked briefly. He went to the armory and filled up a duffel bag.”

“You saw him last night?” Abram turned his angry glare toward Axel. “And you didn’t stop him?”

“I’ll call Bruno.” Graham pulled his cellphone out of his pocket. “He might know something.”

“Put him on speaker,” Abram ordered.

Graham obeyed. He put his cell phone on speaker, placing the device on the table in front of him.

“Fischer,” the bear shifter growled.

“Good morning, Bruno. This is Abram Jackman.”

Bruno cleared his throat. “Good morning.”

“We’ve got a problem.”

“Oh, yeah?”

“Don’t play games with me.”

“I told him not to do anything stupid,” Bruno said.

Abram scoffed. “Yeah, I’m sure that Toby’s going to think rationally after being away from his mate for three years.”

“Toby is an excellent agent.”
