“Wow. Thank you. That really means so much to me. I have to run, but I will have my assistant get everything going to meet with the producers and we will let you know when dinner is. I’m not sure what your schedule is like right now, but I am eager to get started as soon as we can.” Sarah said.
“I’m actually wrapping a production right now and don’t have anything for the next 9 months or so. I’ve been searching for my next project and wanted to go outside my box.”
“That’s perfect. I’m so excited and I really hope everything works out for us to work together. Hope to see you soon Katie. Bye.”
I really wanted this part so badly. The role was going to be such a big challenge and I looked forward to it. Damaged was about a woman having an affair with her husband’s business rival. Jackson was a powerful business exec with a reputation for skirting the line. Lily was a housewife of a politician who cheated on her regularly and didn’t appreciate the work she did for his campaigns. The book was very sexy and a little dark. I’d never done anything like it but I wanted the experience.
I picked up my phone and sent Ally a text.
Me: She wants me to be Lily!! This shit is happening. (Probably!) We have to go celebrate tonight! Envy??
Envy was my favorite club to go to. It was out of the way and not really frequented by paps. A lot of celebs I know hang out there and it’s pretty low key. I wondered what Cade was doing this evening but I didn’t have his number to find out. I wished I’d gotten his number but then I remembered my silly idea to play hard to get. I was regretting that a little but it would be a good indicator of whether or not he was into me. He was curious enough to go find me on live TV but how far did that extend? Was I a puzzle he needed to solve, or was I a woman he was attracted to? I would admit to being curious about him, but I was also a little worried that he was the playboy type like the rumors said he was. I knew all about appearances, but was his image to create buzz and get attention or was that who he really was?
Ally responded then in her usual style.
Ally: Hell yeah bitches! Party time
Ally: I heard a rumor a certain panty wetting rock start went out of his way to be on Fallon w/u. Tell me the deets tonight or else!!!
I laughed. Of course, she had already heard. She kept her ears low to the ground for gossip at all times. I swear, sometimes she knew things before they even happened.
Ally showed up at my house around seven with Chinese food. We ate and gossiped while picking out our clothes for our night out. I ended up wearing a tiny emerald green dress and Ally wore a tiny crop top and hot pants.
I had called my driver and my security team in advance to let them know my plans for the evening. I usually hated to bring them places but conceded that sometimes it was necessary for my protection. People were crazy.
Ally and I walked through the VIP roped section at Envy and were escorted to the table my assistant had reserved for us. It was nice to have people to do things like that for me. I’d have never remembered.
We ordered drinks and gulped them down before heading out to the dance floor. The music pounded in a rhythmic thump that sent adrenaline rushing into my veins. I love dancing like this. It was so raw and primal. I tipped my head back and got lost.
Every now and then, we went to the bar and ordered more drinks. I alternated with water to stay hydrated. I didn’t want to be so hung over I’d miss my morning run and be behind in my schedule the next day.
CADE
I walked into the club at around 9:30. I wanted to get there later than her so that she would see me walk in and know I was there. I wanted her to know that I was there for her and that I was the type of guy to go after what I wanted.
I surprised her by going up behind her and putting my hands on her hips and moving a little to the music. She pushed back quickly like she was about to tell someone off but then she recognized me when she turned her head. I dipped my head down and pressed my lips close to her ear.
“We meet again, sweet Kat.”
She spun around in my arms and looked up to me with a smile.
“Fancy meeting you here Mr. Walker. Come to play with us a bit?” She asked me looking playful and beautiful in her sexy green dress.
“I saw you over here and couldn’t resist the urge to join you. You look great out here by the way. I think every eye in the place is on you and that dress.” I said to her honestly. She didn’t have to know that Ally was the one who told me they would be here.
“You look pretty fantastic yourself. Dance with me?” She asked.
Permission to run my hands over your body and pull you close? Hell Fucking Yeah.
But what I said was “Love to.”
She didn’t really need to know exactly how bad I had it for her already. She would find that out soon enough. I’d like to be mysterious, at least for a little while.
KAT
I was so caught up in the music I almost didn’t notice the buzz that started around us. Some celeb had arrived I guessed. I didn’t bother turning to look and see who it was. If I knew them, we’d feel obligated to exchange pleasantries. I didn’t like most other famous people so I tried to avoid them when I could.
A few minutes later, I was surprised by warm hands on my hips and a warm body pressed against my back. I had pushed off men all night and planned to do the same to this one, even though he did smell nice, and maybe a bit familiar. I looked at Ally and she grinned at me knowingly before disappearing into the crowd with a wink.
Lips pressed close to my ear and a warm sexy voice said, “We meet again, sweet Kat.”
Cade. Well wasn’t this a nice turn of events. I spun in his arms and smiled up at him.
“Fancy meeting you here Mr. Walker. Come to play with us a bit?” I raised a brow at him.
He looked as amazing as he smelled. Dressed in casual jeans and a button down shirt.
“I saw you over here and couldn’t resist the urge to join you. You look great out here by the way. I think every eye in the place is on you and that dress.” He dipped his face close to mine and I could feel his breath sweep across my face. Even his breath smelled great.
“You look pretty fantastic yourself. Dance with me?” I wanted a chance to test our chemistry. I didn’t have much experience with guys and I needed confirmation he was feeling the same things I was.
“Love to.” He said simply.
We were silent for a while after that, content to move together and lose ourselves in the music. Free to move and not think or worry too much.
He gestured towards the tables and the bar and I nodded. It was time for another water.
I ordered water and he did the same. I found my table and sat down to rest.
It was hard to have a conversation in a loud club so I didn’t bother to try. There would be time for conversation later. Tonight was for testing the connection. I needed to know if he was looking for a fun fling or if he was open to exploring whatever this was. I didn’t have time or the desire for a friends with benefits type arrangement. If I was going to see a guy it was going to be exclusive and meaningful. I needed to know he was going to be worth my time. It would be hard to say no, knowing the pull we had, but I had every intention of staying away from him if I felt like he was a public break up waiting to happen.
I didn’t want to get ahead of myself by imagining our relationship potential but I would be lying to myself if I said I wasn’t interested in that with him. Everything he said was perfect but I needed actions to back up his words. I turned my head to look at him and saw that he’d been watching me. I mentally shook myself out of my thoughts and smiled. This was the time to have fun and enjoy dancing with the hottest guy in the club, maybe even in the world.
“Come on, boy toy!” I yelled pulling him with me back to the dance floor. “It’s time to show me your best moves. I’m still in need of some arm candy. Consider this your Call Back.”
“I’ll show you moves funny girl. You won’t be making jokes then.” He yelled back with a smoldering look I’d seen so often on his magazine ads.
I lost myself in the heat of his eyes and found myself pulled into a dark corner of the dance floor. We had been lucky to be ignored all night. The VIP dance floor in Envy was known for being laid back and full of important people looking to avoid attention.
He pulled me achingly close to his body and wrapped his arms around my waist securing me to him. He began to move, his hips and torso pulling mine along in a tantalizing rhythm. Our eyes locked and our bodies hummed with energy and want. Cade was such a good dancer, as a musician he had an innate sense of the feel and movement of a piece of music. He led me effortlessly and with confidence, you’d expect of a rock star.
We didn’t speak, letting the desire build naturally by our movement. We teased each other with soft brushes of hands in innocent places, hair, arms, and cheeks. Our dance was the slow seduction of two people getting to know each other. We learned the other’s movements and rhythm, and tested our connection. These dances were an experiment in chemistry. Would our attraction translate to heat and fireworks, or would the excitement fade and fall flat? Before I knew it, our faces had grown closer, our eyes beginning to close and our lips being pulled together slowly as if by the power of magnets, or gravity.
