She stood up and they hugged and then Ellie said, “
Well, I should be going. I’ve taken up enough of your time.”

“
Let me walk you out.” He replied.

“
Thank you.” She said.

They walked back through the house making small talk as they went. As they reached the front door, he grabbed for the handle and said, “
You have some big decisions ahead of you. You know that I wish you the best.”

“
I do. Thank you.” She said as she turned to head out to her car under a much more persistent rain.

“
Don’t be a stranger Ellie!” he called out.

“
I won’t, I promise!” she yelled back as she hurried to the relative warmth and certain dryness of her car.

As she drove away she was both saddened and relieved when reflecting back on the conversation she had with Marlon. She knew that if she chose to be with the brothers it will exclude her from the pack, for life. But, at the same time, she w
as relieved that Marlon has intervened in Lukas’ power play to try and get her shunned before she even had a chance to make a decision.

Lukas…

She was fed up once and for all and was going to put a stop to it and so she reached in her purse to get her phone and call him.

It was dead.

Of course it was.

It must have been roaming the entire one hour drive out to Marlon
’s home and drained all the battery life looking for a signal.

Just her luck.

Besides wanting to chew Lukas out she was also supposed to call the brothers back and make plans to get together later. But, there was nothing she could do about it at the moment so instead she drove as quickly as she could back to her apartment. As she made the final turn into her apartment complex, she realized that fate was going to give her a chance to deal with Lukas after all - his car was there. From a distance, it was obvious he wasn’t in it and so she assumed he must be inside.

Fuck.

She’d been dumb enough to give him a key at some point and so she figured he must be inside waiting on her to get home. For a split second, she thought of spontaneously ramming his car in anger. But, then cooler heads prevailed and she knew that the satisfaction she was going to get from the conversation would last far longer than any momentary rush she would get from metal clashing into metal.

She parked her car, got out and headed inside to confront him.

She opened the door to her apartment to find him seated comfortably on the couch. Knowing she needed to capitalize on her anger she walked straight towards him without even so much as closing the door behind her.

She stopped dead in her tracks and said, “
It’s too late Lukas, I’ve already spoken to Marlon. He told me that I would be always be welcome in the pack.”

Yes, I know.” He replied quietly.

She could feel her anger bubble to the surface as she said, “
Well if you

are you here? There’s nothing left between us. I know now that I want to be with them and there’s nothing you can do to prevent it.”

He waited for the sound of her words to disappear into silence and then he replied, “

Horrified, she stammered, “

would stoop that low.” She knew immediately what he meant. If he claimed her there would be nothing she could do about it. She would be forever bound to him. What had one time been only a dream of hers would now be nothing but a nightmare.

He moved in towards her like a sinister shadow and said, “
Ellie, it is for your own good.”

He rose from his seated position and began to walk slowly in her direction. As he did he chided, “

Ellie. I thought this is what you

Ellie felt helpless. She could
feel her one chance at happiness being taken from her by this monster. How could she ever have seen him for anything other than what he is right now? She was filled with dread, panic and fear and on the verge of fainting when a voice from the doorway suddenly said, “Lukas. Enough…”

Without turning to look in the direction of the speaker, Lukas answered, “
This is not your concern Uncle. It is my right to claim her. It is pack law. You know this to be true.”

Marlon replied, “
Yes, it is true Lukas. That is, unless
another
has already laid claim to her.”

He snapped his head in Marlon
’s direction and demanded, “Ridiculous! Who else in the pack would have done it?”

Marlon replied calmly, “
Did I
say
they were from
our pack
?”

Just then, both Jason and Ben appeared o
n either side of Marlon.

Marlon motioned outwards with both hands and said, “
As you can see, they are
not
of our kind.”

Impossible! You

be serious Uncle. They are

. That automatically means that they have no right to claim her.” Lukas answered angrily.

Oh, I am quite serious my nephew. These men are also half human, just as Ellie is.”

?” Lukas asked.

Marlon continued, “
Yes. And you know that this means that she is as equal in kind to them as she is to us. Therefore, if they desire to claim her and she agrees, then it is

Lukas bit his lip and shook his head in disgust. He knew that his uncle spoke the truth and there was precious little he could do abo
ut it. He lingered in defeat for a moment and then stormed out.

“
Out of my way!” he demanded as he neared the doorway. He lowered his right shoulder and hanged hard into Jason as he exited. With no desire to upset Ellie, Jason simply let the idle threat pass him by. After a moment, Marlon stepped through the door and walked over to her.

“
But, how… How did you know what Lukas would try to do?” she asked.

Marlon replied, “
I knew that Lukas had darkness in his heart over this and I assumed he would try almost anything. Claiming you would be the simplest way to get what he wanted. So, I went to see them after you left. I hope that you can forgive me but I needed to meet them for myself.”

“
No, it’s fine. I should be thanking you. I don’t know how I’ll ever be able to repay you.” She said softly.

“
I do. Be happy.” He replied. He then continued and said, “And, don’t worry about Lukas. He’ll be fine. Eventually you two will mend your fences. In the meantime, I need to have a long talk with him about many, many things.”

He then smiled, hugged her and turned to leave. He walked back towards the front door, paused and shook the brothers
’ hands. As he did he spoke to them but she was unable to hear what was being said between them.

He then turned back towards her and said
, “Goodbye Ellie. Don’t forget about us.”

She was puzzled by what he meant but said, “
I won’t, not ever. Thank you Marlon.”

As Marlon walked away, both Ben and Jason entered the apartment and closed the door behind them. Ellie knew in that moment that everything had changed and a new reality had dawned for her. Before they could speak she said, “I know that you are both concerned about me but I’m alright. In fact, I’ve never been happier.”

Ben stepped toward her and said, “
We’re in love with you to Ellie.”

“
I am in love with the two of you as well.” She replied. She felt a warm rush of bliss rise up from inside as she spoke those words to them. This is what it meant to feel love for someone and to have them fully return it. She never dreamed it possible but now, it was real.

Emotion was thick in the air between the three of them. It was clear that only one thing remained now for
them to seal the words that had been spoken. But Ellie was unsure. Being with two men was never something that crossed her mind -

She looked nervously at the both of them and said, “
