Chapter Thirty-One

We ate lunch together, chatting about the things that were going on in my hometown and what Keith and Mom were working on at their jobs at the moment.

Sammy was taken with Leo, and Leo had no problem chatting with him about school and his hobbies. I couldn’t help but watch them with a smile on my face.

“Oh, you have a little girl?” My mom beamed with excitement when I mentioned Macy.

Leo nodded. “Yeah, she’s three—”

“And the cutest, she has the most beautiful bouncing curls,” I interrupted, grinning.

“Her mother around?” Mom inquired.

“She passed away after giving birth. Hemorrhaged.”

Mom raised her hand to her mouth as she gasped. “Oh gosh, I’m so sorry. That must have been so hard.”

“It was. Suddenly a single father didn’t know much about kids,” Leo said, his voice tight. “Luckily I had the support of my club. They pulled me through, Macy too. Realized I wasn’t the only one who’d lost someone, she had too, and she only had me. So I had to step up.”

Keith nodded as though he understood and Mom’s eyes shone with respect and admiration for the man at my side.

“You’re a good man,” she whispered.

Leo just nodded in thanks. He didn’t see it that way. Macy was his daughter, and there was no way he would have backed away from his responsibilities despite it taking him some time to grieve to get his head straight.

After lunch, we hung around for another hour or so before we decided it was time to get on our way. Mom, Keith, and Sammy stood at the curb. I hugged them all before climbing into the truck.

“Next time you bring that little girl with you,” my mom ordered, hugging Leo.

He smiled. “I’m sure she’d love that.”

They waved as we drove off down the street, my body slumping into my seat as we turned the corner and they disappeared from sight.

“How you feeling?” Leo asked, his eyes on the road.

“Emotionally exhausted,” I told him honestly.

He smiled. “They’re good people.”

“The best.”

We drove for four hours, no particular destination in mind, but when we pulled into Jacksonville Florida, we decided it was a good place to spend the night and make a plan for tomorrow. Leo pulled into the first motel we spotted. Nothing fancy. It was old but well maintained.

We got the keys to our room and headed up the staircase, walking along the outside balcony. The room was nice, simple. A bed, a bathroom, a television and a little kitchen area with a microwave and sink.

“I’m gonna have a shower,” I told Leo as I headed for the bathroom.

He nodded. “I’m just going to call Op, and let him know where we are.”

I headed into the small bathroom. Surprisingly, it had a bath with the shower over it. I turned it on and stepped back, stripping my clothes off and dropping them onto the floor, stretching my body, glad to be out of the truck.

I stepped into the shower and pulled the curtain around, basking in the hot water as it prickled at my skin. I sighed, the water soothing my aching body.

I heard the bathroom door open, and Leo pulled back the curtain. His eyes raked over my naked body as he braced one hand against the wall.

“Everything good?” I asked.

“Yeah, Macy is back, and Oz and Bright Eyes are going to hang around for a few days at the club.” His eyes continued to examine my body even as he spoke. I felt a tingle of excitement, bending down to pick up the bar of soap off the small ledge and bringing it to my chest.

“That’s good.”

I rubbed at my skin, bubbles beginning to form and drip down over my breasts and stomach.

Leo reached for the neck of his shirt, pulling it over his head before stripping off his belt and letting his jeans fall to the ground. My heart raced as he stepped over the edge of the bath and reached out, taking the soap from my hands. I stood still as he proceeded to wash my body, the act so sensual and soothing.

He turned my body so the spray of the shower hit my front and washed away the soap while he worked on my back. I arched when his hands glided over the globes of my ass, and I heard the bar of soap drop into the bath. I moved to reach for it my body stilling as his hand slipped between my legs and found my wet pussy.

Instead of reaching for the soap that floating between my feet to the plug hole, I braced both my hands on the wall and pushed my ass out toward him. One hand guided up my spine while the other continued to torment my swollen clit.

I felt Leo reach over me, turning the shower head toward the wall. The cold air against my heated skin caused me to shiver. That was until I felt his tongue slide through my pussy and I moaned loudly, the sound bouncing against the walls of the room. He didn’t stop there, he continued all the way up, spreading my cheeks as his tongue ran over my ass causing me to gasp.

I heard him chuckle. “You like that,” he stated, returning his mouth to my pussy, sliding his tongue in and out like he was fucking me.

“Yes,” I groaned.

A sharp slap to my ass had me jumping. “Naughty girl.”

I wiggled my butt and looked over my shoulder at him with a sexy smile. “Yeah, and what you gonna do about it?”

I felt his cock at my entrance and without warning he slammed it inside me, forcing me forward, my chest pressed against the cold wall.

He moved forward, pushing himself back in. His hands came to the wall, bracing on either side of my head as he pulled back and thrust in again. He ground his hips against me, his cock seeking that spot inside me that would make me scream his name.

My nipples rubbed against the wall as I shifted with his movements, the sensations only bringing me higher. I threw my head back, my damp hair falling down my arched back.

“Wanna hear those noises fall from your lips, Hadley. Don’t hold back,” he growled just as he slammed his dick inside me again.

I let go, crying out his name.

“That’s it.”

His hand hooked under my knee, and he lifted it, so that my foot rested on the edge of the bath, allowing him deeper access. He ran his hand up the inside of my thigh, and he used his fingers to spread my lips and give him access to my clit. He flicked it, a sharp sting at first that turned into an electric surge through my body, filled with pleasure.

“Leo,” I moaned, leaning my head forward, my forehead against the wall in front of me. “God, please.”

“What do you want, baby?” he crooned, covering my back with his body as he continued to thrust his hips and torture me with his fingers.

“I want to come,” I whispered, my hot breath hitting the wall and firing back at me, doing nothing to help the way my body was heating as I searched for my release.

“I didn’t hear you.” His tone told me I wasn’t the only one searching. His voice was gruff and sharp. He rubbed at my clit now, his pace increasing as he powered away inside me. I struggled to breathe, my limbs shaking as the electricity inside me began to spread. “I said I didn’t hear you,” he snapped on a powerful thrust.

I screamed as he hit the right spot. “I want to come!” I cried out.

His arms went around my waist as he moved me away from the wall, his cock still inside me.

“Touch your toes,” he ordered, the demanding tone in his voice only exciting me even more. I did as I was told, bending over and bracing my hands as best I could against the bottom of the tub. His hands gripped my hips, holding me against him. I could see he had to bend his knees, his body obviously much taller than mine.

“You aren’t gonna fall, I’ve got you. Just enjoy it.” Without warning, he began to use my body to get him off. The strange position was perfect, and I knew it was about to be added to my list of ways I loved to fuck because he was so deep, hitting the spot inside my pussy so hard that it only took four or five thrusts before my legs began to shake and my orgasm washed over me.

My toes curled. “Oh God, yes!” I cried, the rush of pleasure made me feel dizzy, and I fought to keep myself up. But Leo was right, he didn’t let me fall, he kept ahold of me, not allowing me to fall on my face.

I felt the muscles inside squeezing his cock like a vise as they spasmed in delight.

My whole body shook.

He groaned loudly, pounding inside me one last time, so hard I thought I would be sent sprawling into the bottom of the bath.

The sounds of us breathing heavily filled the bathroom. After a moment, his arm came around my front, and he used it to help me stand, the other holding me at my waist as my legs shook, threatening to give way.

He slipped out of me, and I whimpered softly at the loss. “You all right?” he asked, turning me so I was pressed against his chest.

“Mmm...” I answered, unable to compose any kind of words. I felt a little lightheaded, but my body buzzed and tingled from the power of my release.

He chuckled lightly. “I gotta clean you again now.”

“Better do it fast,” I mumbled. “My legs are gonna give way.”

He did, turning the water back on my body and scrubbing me over with the soap that I retrieved from the floor.

He helped me climb out, wrapping a towel around my naked body and placing me on the closed toilet before rushing to wash his own body. I admired him the whole time. He turned the shower off, noticing I was watching him as he climbed out.

He smirked. “What?”

“How does one get a body like yours?” I asked, admiring his abs and the definition of his muscles.

“Usually, when I’m at the club I watch what I eat and work out daily,” he explained, drying himself off. “It takes work.”

“Mmm. I bet,” I said, still watching him unashamedly.

He laughed. “It’s not like you don’t have a killer body.”

“This is good genes,” I said gesturing to myself.

“So I noticed,” he said, wiggling his eyebrows.

I narrowed my eyes. “Are you trying to insinuate that my mother is hot?” He wrapped his towel around his waist and smirked as he walked out of the room. “That’s gross!” I called after him.

He just laughed, I guess a smart man for not admitting to the obvious.

Chapter Thirty-Two

Leo ran out to get us some food.

It was getting late now, and there was nothing on the little television. I flipped through the channels again and again, hoping that something would pop up as I just wasn’t tired.

Hearing a soft knock on the door, I sat up in surprise. For a second, I thought maybe Leo had forgotten the key, but then I remembered I’d asked him specifically to take it so that I wouldn’t freak out if someone knocked.

And here I was, doing just that.

I slipped silently off the bed, moving toward Leo’s bag that was against the wall.

They knocked again, this time a voice called out, “Hadley Caldwell? Officer Camden here, FBI. Judge sent us.”

I stilled, frowning at the door. Judge wouldn’t have sent men. He was leaving this to the brothers while his team investigated, and did whatever they could to try and stop Simon from doing more damage.

My hand finally found what I was searching for—Leo’s 9mm. I wrapped my hand around the gun and pulled it out.

“Mrs. Caldwell?”

I moved to the door, tiptoeing up to look through the peephole. Two men stood outside the door just inside the lights that lit up the balcony. They wore dark collared business shirts tucked into black jeans. They looked the part, professional and serious.

“Show me your badges,” I ordered.

They both looked up sharply, before digging into their back pockets. “Sure ma’am.”

They held them up, the man closest to the door holding his in front of the peephole. I scanned over it. My heart began to race. It didn’t take a minute to realize that they were fake.

I almost laughed.

You’d think that since Simon was a member of the Bureau that he would at least make sure his henchmen had fake badges that resembled the real ones. Especially, given that he’d been the one to teach me how to identify a fake badge.

The main giveaway was the fact that it had FBI written on it. Real FBI badges have the full title Federal Bureau of Investigation, not the acronym. That was enough for me to know that I was in danger.

I stepped back, my mind racing. I needed to stall them. Leo had been gone a while and should be returning any second. “Do you mind giving me your full name please, so I can call the agency and verify your identity?”

There was a moment of silence, and I knew they were trying to figure out what to do.

“Sure…” he answered cautiously. “Kevin Daniel Camden.”

Any real agent would also offer an ID number.

“One moment please.”

“Ma’am, I suggest you just open up. Judge wants us to take you in. He said it’s dangerous for you to be out here.” He sounded professional, but his words were tense as he rushed them out.

“I’d rather not!”

“I suggest you do,” he snapped. “
Now.
I don’t have time to fuck around.”

The door handle rattled, and I began to walk backward. I held the gun up in front of me, aiming at the center of the doorway.

“I just called the Bureau!” I yelled. “They said…
fuck you
.”

Silence greeted me and my stomach churned nervously as I attempted to hold my hand steady.

“That’s a shame,” the voice said, before the door burst open, splinters of wood flying into the room.

I pulled the trigger on the gun, hitting the first man in the chest.

He flew back, slamming into the man behind him and throwing them both to the ground just inside the entrance of the room. I fired again, the man’s body jumping like he’d been shocked. The other man scampered out from under his friend and dived to the side of the doorway.

“Now that wasn’t very nice, Mrs. Caldwell,” the guy called from his hiding space.

“My bad. Come in here and I’ll apologize,” I offered.

I heard him laugh. “I kinda like you. It’s unfortunate I have to hurt you.”

“Just try. I fucking dare you.”

I saw the flash of metal sparkle in the light and threw myself to the floor behind the bed, just as the gun began to fire. I held my head low as the room filled with bullets, shattering a mirror hanging on the wall and tearing through the walls.

My body flat against the floor, I crawled to the end of the bed and peeked around. The doorway was clear. My eyes caught sight of the cell phone that Leo had given me as a burner in case of an emergency on the counter next to the microwave. I think this counted. I needed to call him and hoped that he wasn’t far away.

I checked the doorway again seeing it was clear before taking a deep breath and leaping to my feet. I dived at the counter, fumbling as I tried to grab the phone. Just as I turned, his hand appeared again, and I dove to the ground, covering my head as a hail of bullets destroyed the room around me.

A sharp pain in my leg caused me to bite down on my tongue. It was like someone had hit me with a hot poker. Using my arms, I dragged my body across the floor back to the safety of the bed. My breathing was heavy and tears were burning at my eyes, the pain strong and throbbing. I looked down, there was a tear in my jeans and blood seeping from where a bullet had grazed over my skin.

I could taste blood in my mouth.

I took another glance out to the door, the only thing I could see was his hand holding the gun as he aimed it into the room. He wasn’t aiming at anything in particular, but I knew that eventually he might get lucky.

Lying flat, I braced the butt of the gun on the floor as I closed one eye and took aim, trying to keep my hands steady despite the pain coursing through me. I squeezed the trigger slowly, bracing for the shot. The bang deafened me for a minute, but soon I was listening to the man outside scream in horror.

“Fucking bitch! I’m going to fucking kill you!”

“Think again, motherfucker.” The sound of Leo’s voice made me want to cry.

It was followed by gunshots and I screamed, “No!” Pushing myself off the floor and stumbling toward the open door.

Leo stepped into the doorway before I could reach it, but I didn’t stop, throwing myself into his arms.

“We’ve gotta go,” he said, carrying me into the room and depositing me on the bed while he gathered his bag. When he spun around, his eyes caught the blood on my jeans, and he quickly dropped down next to me to examine the wound. “It’s just a graze,” he determined, pushing back to his feet. “I’ll fix it up soon. But I don’t doubt there’s more of these guys coming, along with the cops.”

I nodded, hobbling over to the counter and stuffing my things into my backpack and zipping it up, then tossing it over my shoulder.

Leo grabbed my hand and pulled me from the room. We stepped over the two bodies in the entrance, the body of the man who had shot at me slumped against the wall outside. I still had the gun in my hand, and I saw now that Leo had another one tucked into the back of his pants.

We rushed to the end of the balcony and down the stairs, my heart thumping and my breathing heavy.

I heard sirens, and my body froze. Leo didn’t waste a second, gathering me into his arms and carrying me as he ran toward his truck.

“The police, they’ll come after us.”

“Not if we get out of here fast. I gave fake names at the desk and the truck has fake plates.” He rushed out as he dropped me to my feet, unlocking the truck before pushing me into the passenger’s seat. I was still in shock, it was a strange feeling.

When I was alone with those men outside, I felt like I was in control. But now Leo was here, I knew that I could rely on him to take over control and trust him to know what to do, so my body was shutting down.

Leo started the truck, revving the engine and pulling around the back of the motel.

“Where are you going?” I asked when I realized this wasn’t the exit.

“There’s a back entrance that the service vehicles use,” he answered as he guided the truck at speed through a small space out the back of the motel. It ran along the back wall between the motel and a large wire fence. There was a small open space and mini docking area out the back, I assumed where catering companies and laundry services loaded and unloaded. He turned sharply, directing the truck out of an open gate that came out on the road that ran adjacent to the main entrance.

Leo weaved through streets, I wasn’t sure if he knew where he was headed or if he was just attempting to put distance and confusion between us and the cops, that had no doubt made it to the motel already.

My body shook, my hand still clutching tightly to the gun in fear.

“It’s okay, baby,” Leo’s soft voice came from beside me as we pulled out onto the highway. I could see the tension had eased from him now that we seemed a safe distance away. Mine, however, had not. “We’re good now. They won’t get us.”

I just stared at him in the darkness of the truck.

“They tried to tell me they were FBI,” I whispered. “But I knew the badges were fake.”

He listened to me explain what had happened shortly before he showed up.

“They were trying to kill me.”

His face grew angry. “Seems that way.”

Leo pulled his phone from his pocket, dialing a number and hitting the speakerphone button.

It rang and rang, and I recognized Optimus’ voice when he picked up. “Yeah?”

“We ran into a problem,” Leo said sharply.

“You guys okay?” Op asked, seeming more alert.

“For now, I think so.” His eyes flicked to me. “There’s a couple dead bodies outside our room at the motel.”

“They after Hadley?”

“Yeah. She took one out, I got there in time to get rid of the other. Made it out just before the cops showed. Hadley said they were carrying fake FBI badges, saying Judge sent them to look out for her,” Leo explained, his hands gripping the steering wheel.

“How’d they know where you were?” Op asked.

“That’s what I need to know,” Leo answered. “Call Judge. See if he can find something. Maybe Simon has more pull than we thought.”

“Okay. I’ll call you back soon,” he answered before the line went dead.

“He found us,” I whispered, my heart beginning to race again. I wanted to vomit.

Things had seemed so simple before. We outrun them, we hide, we wait for time to tick over. But it wasn’t so simple anymore.

He’d actually found us
.

And now we weren’t just hiding out, we were running for our lives.

“He won’t get to you,” Leo said, promise evident just by his words.

But I knew better.

I knew Simon.

He wasn’t going to give up until I was dead.
