“I’m not interested.”
Hottie
quirked a brow and gave her a lopsided grin. “No?”
Kate shook her head. He took
a step forward, and she forced herself to hold her ground.
“Your body says
differently.” He trailed a finger down her bare arm, and she fought not to pull
it away from his scorching touch. “I can see your nipples through your dress,”
he said and leaned in closer. “And I bet your pussy is wetter than it has ever
been.” His expression was all serious and intent.
Do not fall for his seduction, Kate.
She took a step back and narrowed her eyes. “You
conceited asshole. I said I’m not interested, and I meant it.” Before she lost
her nerve and threw herself in his arms, begging him to ease the ridiculous
ache that had settled between her thighs, she turned and hurried back to her
friends. Each one grabbed an arm and hauled her to the corner.
“Oh. My.
Effing.
Gawd
, Kate!”
“Please tell me you are
going home with him.”
Their voices were a jumbled
mess, and Kate couldn’t decipher who said what. She grabbed her purse and held
her hand up to stop any more of their questions.
“No, I’m not going home with
him because I don’t even know him.”
“Honey,
with a face and body like that, who the hell cares?”
Lilly
said,
her attention
still on the
hottie
.
Kate shook her head. “You
guys are ridiculous. Sleeping with a random person is not going to help
anything.”
They looked at her
incredulously.
“Girl, sleeping with him would cure cancer.”
Kate rolled her eyes, but inside she smiled. “Don’t be stupid, Megan.”
She needed to get out of here before she made a fool out of herself. “I’m tired
and going to head home. I’ve had enough excitement for one night.”
“I’ll take you home,” Megan said. Lilly still had her sights set on Mr.
Testosterone.
“No, I’ll just get a cab. I’m not going to cut your night short,
especially when you two are clearly on the prowl.”
“You sure?”
Lilly finally brought her attention back to Kate.
“Of course.
Can one of you just swing by tomorrow and take me to get my car from
the office?”
“No problem,
hun
.” Megan pulled her into a hug
and whispered in her ear, “He’s still staring at you, Kate. You sure you want
to walk away from that?”
Kate kept the chill of awareness to herself.
“Yeah,
definitely.”
She really didn’t need any more drama in her life, and
being the plaything to two extremely masculine men for the night, didn’t rate
up there on the kind of therapy she needed. “I don’t think I can give him what
he is obviously looking for.”
Megan pulled her back and eyed her critically. “Kate, that man is
practically having sex with you with his eyes. I think you could give him
exactly what he’s looking for, but I understand your reservations and am not
going to push it.” She smiled and gave her one more hug. “Come on, I’ll walk
you out.”
It took everything in Kate’s power not to look at the hot strangers as
she walked out. Once outside, Lilly and Megan waited for the taxi she called to
show up. Once in the cab Kate told herself she had made the right decision,
even if her body cursed her all the way home for it.
Chapter Three
Kev
chuckled as Nate sauntered back to the bar, alone. He
sipped his drink and watched his brother, who still possessed a smile on his
face. The woman with the raven hair whom he’d been watching was long gone. He
couldn’t blame the girl. Nate was a little too much when he wanted something.
“What are you smirking at?”
Nate asked.
“You’re alone. Who are you
going to fuck tonight?”
Kev
asked. For the few
seconds he spent laughing with his brother,
Kev
could
forget about the past and about his mistake, about his guilt.
“No one.
You see, you’ve accepted my bargain because you’re
still here. What did you think of the little siren?”
He thought she was fucking
gorgeous. The mere sight of her curves and
Kev
was
hard. He’d love to sink inside her tight little heat and never leave. Sipping
more of his beer he glanced in the direction of her friends. They were both on
their cell phones looking clearly worried about their friend.
The siren’s image passed
through his mind, and his body tightened in response. It had been a year since
he’d fucked another woman. He needed the release only a juicy, wet cunt gave
him.
Downing the last of his beer
Kev
stood up, slapping his brother on the back. “This
is how it’s done,” he said.
Kev
moved away from his brother before Nate stopped him. Desire,
lust, and pure fucking need were what drove him to approach the siren’s two
friends. They both glanced up at him, then at each other.
“Hello, ladies.” Both women
glanced behind him at Nate. “My brother is an ass for scaring off your friend.”
“Yeah, he is. It took us
weeks to get her to come out with us,” the blonde said, while the other simply
glared at him.
“My brother gets nervous
when he’s attracted to a beautiful woman. Your friend is fucking beautiful.”
Running fingers through his hair he turned to look at his brother and bit his
lip. “He really wants to get to know your friend, and,
erm
,
he’s sent me over ‘
cause
he’s shy.”
This is how it used to be
between them. When Nate fucked up he’d go over and start acting like the
protective brother.
The blonde looked him up and
down. “Cut the crap. I wasn’t born yesterday, and I know what you’re doing. I
bet you and your brother double-team a woman, don’t you?”
“Lilly!” The other woman
looked mortified. Lilly was clearly outspoken, and the other friend looked
rather gentle in comparison.
Folding his arms
Kev
gave Lilly his undivided attention.
“What about it?” he asked.
“Good. You’ve dropped the
fake bullshit older brother crap.” Lilly folded her arms and stared back at
him.
For the first time
Kev
dropped the easy persona he’d adopted whenever he was
hunting with his brother.
“There we go. That’s the
real man inside,” Lilly said. She put her hand up at the other woman when the
other woman looked ready to interrupt. “Kate has gone through a messy breakup.
I don’t want her to be hurt.”
“She’s not going to be
hurt.”
“I want you and your brother
to be her rebound men.”
“Lilly! What are you doing?”
Her friend’s voice was raised and panic-stricken. Lilly rolled her eyes and
huffed out.
“Calm down, Megan. You know
as well as I do that Kate needs this. That asshole wasn’t fit to lick her
shoes. Why in the hell shouldn’t she indulge with some seriously hot men?”
Lilly eyed him again. “What’s your name anyway?”
“
Kev
Miller. And back at the table is my brother, Nate.”
He tilted his head back.
“Lilly, this is a bad idea.
Kate doesn’t know them.” The friend looked at him skeptically and then over his
shoulder at Nate. “
We
don’t know
them. They could be perverts for all we know.” The one named Lilly looked over
at him, her gaze moving up and down his body. She did the same to Nate.
“Nah, they are way too
attractive to be perverts.”
Kev
suppressed his smirk.
“Besides, Kate needs this.
Hell,
I
need this.” She winked. “So,
like I was saying, you two up for the challenge of being her rebound bad boys?”
A loud exhale came from the
friend who was not on board with him and Nate being with her friend. He had to
give her credit for looking out for her girl.
“What’s the catch?”
Kev
asked. He’d never known a friend to do this before, but
hey, what-the-hell-ever.
“No catch. I give you and
hotness over there her number. You make her feel good, and you leave her heart
intact. You’re not to break her heart or hurt her.”
“You want us to be her good
time guys?” he asked.
“Right.
Nothing else.
No false
commitments or promising to call. You blow Kate’s sexual world and you leave
her alone.”
He looked back at Nate. His
brother ordered another beer and waited.
“Why is this important to
you?”
Kev
asked.
“Kate’s like a sister to me.
You and your brother look like pretty decent guys, and you won’t hurt her.
She’s been through a messy breakup. I love her, and I want to see her have fun.
Kate’s important to me, which is why this is important to me. Do you need me to
spell it out slowly?” Lilly asked.
Kev
watched Lilly. The blonde twirled a hair around her
finger. She was a hot little number but nothing compared to her friend, Kate.
“Give me her number, and my
brother and I will blow her world.” He made the promise with every intention of
seeing it through.
Lilly stared him up and down
before holding her hand out. “Give me your phone, and I’ll type it in.”
Pulling the phone from his
back pocket he handed her the phone. The other friend nibbled on her lip while
looking between them.
“This is not a good idea,
Lilly.”
“Megan, this is perfect.
There’s no way Kate will fall in love with two guys. It’s not in her nature,
and she’ll get over her bastard ex.”
Lilly punched in the number
then handed him the phone. “I’ve added my number as well.”
He raised an eyebrow looking
her up and down. This had to be the weirdest conversation he’d ever had with a
friend.
“Yeah,
not for that reason, stud.
I’ve added my
number in case of emergencies.” She pointed her finger up and down. “You don’t
excite me. Well, not enough to start anything with.”
Lilly turned her back,
grabbed Megan’s hand, and led the way out of the door.
Kev
headed back to his brother.
“I bought you another beer,”
Nate said.
“Thanks.”
He stared at the number lit
up on his phone. Kate’s number was blaring at him waiting for him to call.
“So, what happened? You
spent a great deal of time talking to the friend, and there was a moment when
the little one looked ready to run for it. I hope you put on the charm instead
of glaring at them.”
Kev
handed Nate the phone. “I got her number. Our girl is
Kate. She’s been through a messy breakup.”
“You know all this from talking
with her friends?” Nate asked.
“Lilly, the blonde, wants us
to blow Kate’s world. The breakup has affected her, and Lilly wants us to make
it better.”
Kev
sipped his drink as Nate looked at
the phone.
“Are you going to call her?”
“No, Nate. You’re the one
who made our little agreement. One girl, one time, and then you’ll leave me
alone. I’m sticking with my end of the bargain. You can do whatever the hell
you want.”
Kev
waited for Nate to press the number into his own
phone. When Nate was done, he took his phone back and checked if there was
something waiting for him at the office. The screen was blank.
“Seriously, you’re checking
to see if work is waiting for you?” Nate
asked,
outrage clear in his tone.
“My work is important,”
Kev
said, pocketing his phone.
“This is bullshit. I don’t
even know you anymore. What happened to my brother?”
He remained silent.
Kev
wasn’t ready to admit the truth. He’d been a selfish
bastard, and in doing so had ruined the life of a woman.
“I’m out of here. Let me know
when you’ve called the girl.”
Kev
stood, threw down
some cash,
then
walked out of the bar without looking
back.
****
Nate stared at his cell
phone. He’d not called Kate last night as it was late and he didn’t want to
appear desperate. After his brother left anger replaced any kind of desire to
seduce her. Her friends had left after
Kev
talked to
them.
Whatever was up with his
brother was really starting to annoy him.
Kev
had never
put work before him whereas now work came first. They were brothers, and yet he
felt more like strangers when they were in the same room. Nate worked at a
mechanic shop fixing up cars while
Kev
made millions
buying and selling businesses like they were going out of fashion, or at least
that’s what Nate let his brother believe.
