Lilly clapped her hands.
“Shopping time!”
She pulled Megan up and snaked her arm
through their friend’s. “Come on, we have some time to do a little damage.”
Kate wanted to argue, but in
the end it wouldn’t have make a difference. When Lilly had something cemented
in her mind she didn’t let it go.

Kev
sat in the investors meeting but had no idea what the
fuck was going on. Since getting the call from Nate about picking a place for
their little siren that was all he could think about. He had secured
reservations for tomorrow evening at The Pine, an exclusive restaurant on the
upper West side. Nerves wracked his body, and
Kev
was
pissed about that fact. It had been a while since he had done this with Nate,
not since … No, he wouldn’t think about her, not when guilt and pain always
followed. It had been over a year since he’d lost Heather, but times like this,
when the guilt was especially strong, he thought of her with a vengeance and
not always in a good way.
“
Kev
?”
The sound of his name being
called had him looking at Bryce, one of the partners in his firm. “I’m sorry,
what?”
“I asked if you think the
merger with Lachlan Corporation is a wise choice.”
Kev
cleared his
throat and sat up straighter. He needed to pull his head out of his ass and get
back to business. “The revenue that it would bring would be substantial, and
having such an established business on our side is a wise choice.” He needed to
get Kate out of his head. It wasn’t like he hadn’t taken a woman with Nate, had
in fact done it countless times, but for some reason he felt different about
this. Maybe this was a bad idea, or maybe this was just the thing he needed to
move forward and put the past behind him?
Chapter Five
After a lot of argument on
Nate’s follow-up conversation with Kate, they established he was picking her up
to take her to dinner. His cell phone rang as he placed the jacket on. He hated
wearing such tight-fitting clothes, but
Kev
had arranged
for one of the best restaurants around. Jeans and a shirt weren’t going to make
the grade.
“Hello,” he said, flipping
his phone open without looking at the caller.
“I’m going to be late
tonight.” His brother
Kev
sounded distracted.
“There’s a fucking surprise.
Let me guess, work meeting?”
“Don’t be a dick. I arranged
everything. You’ll get to wine her, and I should be there in time for the
dining. This is only a one-time deal. We fuck her, give her a good time, and
walk away.”
Nate fisted his hands. It
was fist his hands or
say
something he’d regret.
“Whatever.”
“Good, see you later, and
try not to get into her pants at the restaurant. It’s a really classy place,
and I don’t want to owe anyone any favors because of your
needs
.”
Over five years ago Nate had
been so desperate to be inside a woman he’d taken her in the ladies’ room. The
only way Nate got out of being charged was because
Kev
agreed to donate a hefty sum of money to the place and for Nate to never
frequent the premises again.
“That was a long time ago.”
Kev
chuckled. “Yeah, but you’ve never been good at
keeping it in your pants. I’ve got to go. Give her a real good time. Her friend
scares me. She wants Kate to have some good memories.”
“
Kev
Miller afraid of a little woman. I never thought
I’d hear it.”
“You didn’t meet Lilly.
She’s feisty and scary. Her kids would be well looked after. Anyway, I’ve got
to go.”
Nate hung up and stared at
his phone. His brother spent too much time working. If
Kev
wasn’t careful he’d die of a heart attack without having experienced the
pleasures of life.
Staring at his reflection in
the mirror, Nate mussed his hair and then headed downstairs. He grabbed his
wallet then his keys seconds before heading out the door.
Kate had, reluctantly, given
him her address so he could pick her up. He climbed behind the wheel of the
sports car his brother had bought him at their last birthday together. Within
seconds he was on the road heading in the direction of her house. She lived in
a really nice area, and when he pulled up outside her home, Nate saw the
curtain twitch.
Climbing out, he grabbed the
flowers he’d purchased earlier and made his way up her driveway. The woman
clearly wasn’t a gardener as most of her front yard was overgrown with weeds.
As it happened, Nate loved working with his hands. He’d offer his services for
her to use in her garden.
He knocked on the door
waiting for it to be answered.
Her friend, the one who’d
spoken with
Kev
, answered the door. She whistled at
him. “You sure clean up nice, but I prefer the tats.”
“Lovely to meet you, Lilly,”
he said.
“Damn, Kate is a lucky girl.
Come on inside. She’s just finishing getting ready.”
He stepped over the
threshold just as Kate was walking down stairs. Nate stared from her heel
encased feet up to her face. She wore a deep blue dress with a split up the
side showcasing her legs. The dress molded to every curve, and her tits looked
full and pert. His mouth watered for a taste of her flesh.
“Look who I found outside
lurking around,” Lilly said.
Kate stared at him as her second
friend appeared from behind her.
“And that there is Megan,”
Lilly said, budging him with her elbow. “She’s shy, and you’re drooling.”
He closed his mouth and
smiled up at his date. “You look stunning.”
Her blush was the most
endearing thing he’d ever seen. She was sexy, and she blushed. He found the
combination enticing.
“Nice to meet you, Megan,”
he said. He didn’t move his gaze away from Kate. She held his attention.
“See,
smokin
’
hot,” Lilly said.
Kate’s blush deepened. “I
think it’s time for us to go.”
“Don’t worry, Kate. We’ll be
here when you get back,” Megan said.
“No. She’s not coming home
tonight, Megan. That’s why we’re here. We’re house-sitting for her. Take care
of her, and if you hurt her, I’ll cut your dick and balls off, understood?”
Lilly asked.
“She’s in the safest hands
with me and my brother.”
“Good.”
Nate took her hand and led
her out of the door. He didn’t miss the slight quiver as she placed her hand
inside his own.
Once he seated her in his
car, he gave her friends a wave then walked around to the passenger side.
“I’m so sorry about my
friends,” she said the instant he was on the road. “They’re overprotective.”
“They’re your friends. I’d
be more concerned if they weren’t there with you tonight.” Lilly may have
thrown her at them, but her friend still cared for her and Nate respected her
friends for it. “They seem amazing.”
Kate smiled. “They really
are. Apart from giving my phone number out to strange men and forcing me to
arrange a date, they’re all right.”
“We can’t all be blessed
with perfect friends.”
“Do you have any close friends?”
she asked.
Nate turned his attention to
her before quickly looking back at the road ahead. “
Erm
,
there was just my brother and me for the longest time.”
He felt her stare and turned
to see her gaze on him.
“What?” he asked.
“You seem sad.”
Her perception of his mood
startled him. Most of the women he dated only cared about what they felt and
thought.
His hands tightened on the
steering wheel. He’d not even spoken with his parents about the change inside
Kev
.
“You don’t have to talk to
me about it. Sorry for prying. I’m not good on the whole first date, fucking
thing.”
Out of the corner of his eye
he saw her rub the palms of her hands down the dress.
“No, I want to talk to you
about it. I just don’t want you to think I’m treating you like some kind of
fucking therapist.”
“You curse a lot.”
“It’s who I am, baby.”
“I get that.”
He let out a sigh as the
lights turned to red. Slowing down the car, Nate weighed up the pros and cons
of telling her the truth about his brother. “
Kev
, my
brother, used to be my best friend. We did everything together. We partied
together, fucked the same women together, and then as if a switch turned
everything off,
Kev
is no longer spending time with
me. He avoids me, and I had to bribe him to be with us tonight.”
“Great, you needed to bribe
your brother in order to be with me,” Kate said.
Grabbing her hand, Nate
kissed her knuckles.
“No, not to be with you.
I needed
to bribe him to be with me.
Kev
wants you the same as
I want you.”
“How do you know this?”
“We’re brothers and twins
even if we don’t look alike. We’re still twins.”
She let out a sigh. “I don’t think I can
handle this.”
“What?”
“The two
of you.
I’m not really into this.”
“Have you ever been with two
men?” he asked, intrigued.
“You really don’t care what
you ask, do you?”
Nate laughed. “I tell it
like it is. I’m not one to lie or to keep things away.”
“Really?”
“Really.
For instance, I see you in that dress and all I want
to do is pull over and take you. I’d bend you over the car, lift your dress up,
and see if you’re wearing any panties. I’d keep your panties as a trophy. I
know you’re dripping wet.”
She gasped.
“Deny it,” he said.
“I can’t deny it, and I am
wearing panties.”
A quick glance in her direction
and he saw her nipples were rock hard and her blush had deepened. His siren was
aroused.
“I bet your pussy is nice
and tight.”
“I can’t believe you’re
talking like this,” she said.
“Can’t believe it or can’t
believe you’re aroused by it?”
Kate stayed silent as he continued
with their drive. They were not far from the restaurant.
“If you’re the blunt one,
does that make
Kev
the boring one?”
“Don’t let
Kev
hear you say that. He’s the straitlaced one. He wears
the suit, but I know deep down he’s dying to let loose. I’m hoping us being
together will open him back up.”
“You miss your brother?”
“Yeah.”
And he did.
Kev
meant
everything to him. His brother was his rock. Throughout their life it had
always been him and
Kev
against the world. His parents
didn’t mind their close friendship. They hadn’t been able to have any more
children, and so
Kev
and Nate were always close.
“I feel the same way with my
girlfriends. They’re my family, and I’d do anything for them,” Kate said. She
took his hand and gave him a gentle squeeze.
He took the comfort while he
could. If
Kev
got his way then this was going to be
the first and last time he was with her.
“We’re here,” he said,
slowing down to a stop.
Nate parked the car in front
of the doors of the restaurant.
Kev
knew how to pick
the best place. He climbed out and quickly moved around to Kate’s side of the
car. He handed the guy waiting a key and escorted her inside the restaurant.
The maître d’ seated them at
a table in the back of the restaurant away from prying eyes.
“Wow, this place is
amazing,” she said.
“My brother arranged
everything.”
“You don’t sound jealous or
anything.”
“I’m not jealous of my
brother. He has money and power, but he has barely any time to himself.” He
took her hand and ran his thumb along her palm.
“So, do you have any
hobbies?” she asked.
“Yeah, I like fixing cars.”
“You’re a mechanic?”
“That’s right.”
Nate brushed the hair off
her neck and laid a gentle kiss to her neck. “What do you do?”
****
Kev
entered the restaurant two hours late. Nate had
answered a text to let him know they still hadn’t eaten but were waiting for
him.
He didn’t wait for the
maître d’ to show him to the table. Making his way through the room he
acknowledged the people he recognized. He spotted his brother first. Nate
always looked out of place in a suit. His brother would never make it in the
corporate world.
