Jamie wanted to dig a bit deeper, but it wasn’t worth it to her. She was done with that part of her life and the less she knew the better.

***

A few weeks of things going well was just what Jamie needed, and that’s exactly what she got. She’d not only proved herself, but she had even more clients knocking on her door. The entire conversation surrounding the incident with Nathan was pretty much down to a very low simmer. Jamie pulled the media off of Nathan by feeding a few of Michael Patterson’s clients to the sharks. It worked doubly well because Michael wasn’t equipped for it, so the clients that she leaked stories on were now seeking out her expertise.

It was a dirty tactic, but she didn’t feel bad about it in the slightest. It was the name of the game and she had to stay employed. If she didn’t leak the stories, someone would have eventually anyway. Now she assigned them to different people under her and they were well on their way to being back in the public’s good graces as well.

Nathan’s stock prices were back on the upswing and he and his Barbie of a wife were being followed on their sexy vacations. It stung a little to see them on the beach enjoying their lives, but some of the sting was taken out of it because she knew what the truth was. The two of them were so far apart emotionally and mentally that it was surprising that they could stand the sight of one another at all. It seemed like a pretty miserable existence to Jamie. It definitely wasn’t the kind of life that she wanted for herself when it came to love.

Although Nathan kept making bad decisions, it was hard for her to not feel bad for him. He had to purchase the time of a hooker just to have a decent conversation. That had to be embarrassing for him. He was searching for something that he didn’t have at home, it was sad, but it was also his fault. Sometimes you have to let go of what you have in order to get what you truly want. Sure, there may be a price to pay for it, but isn’t that price worth it in the end if you’re happy?

There was no point in thinking of any of that at the current moment because she was out on a date with Christian. He’d been doing his best to get back into her good graces and it was working. It was incredibly difficult for her to be upset with a man that technically didn’t do anything wrong. He’d been let out of prison and cleared of all charges. How could she keep pushing him away when they didn’t end on bad terms?

“You remember when you peed on yourself in pool?“ Christian asked.

Jamie looked around the restaurant in horror and kicked Christian under the table. “You shut your filthy mouth,“ she hissed.

He chuckled to himself. “What, is that still a sore spot?’

“That was embarrassing as hell. I still can’t believe that I did that. It was all your fault! You know that I would never do something like that.“

He grinned, “Sorry, I thought you were kidding when you said that you had to go to the bathroom.“

“You did not. You kept dunking me anyway. No matter how much I tried to get away from you, you were just faster than me,“ she giggled before she covered her face and shook her head. “I was ready to kill you. I still remember stomping off and almost falling because it was so slippery.”

“Once again, I’m sorry.“ There was a glint of humor in his eyes.

“Yeah, you’re sorry all right,“ she mumbled. “I could still stab you for that. I prayed that no one saw what happened but there was this little girl that kept staring at the yellow stream that followed me around. She knew what I did, I could tell. I could have died.“

“You talk about it as if it just happened yesterday, that was a while ago,“ Christian observed.

“That’s because the thought of it still embarrasses me.“

“Okay, we can talk about something else then. Why are you single still?“ he asked. “I’m not asking to cause problems, I just really want to know. You’re so perfect, you’re just as perfect as I remember,“ he admitted.

She shook her head, “I’m not perfect, nobody’s perfect. As you can see, I made a choice between a career and a relationship. I chose a career over staying by your side. I couldn’t stand to think about you being in there and I certainly couldn’t stand the thought of you... of you betraying what we had together. We were supposed to build a life together and I felt like you threw it away for money. I was really hurt and I was determined to never let someone have that kind of power over me again.“

He nodded, “How do you feel now? You have to see the value in having a partner in your life right now. Time has passed, but it’s clear that we still click. I can show you over time that I’m willing to get to know you all over again.“

She took a deep breath as her heart pulsed faster. She felt a little psycho for considering his proposal. It all felt way too surreal for her to process. How could the man that she abandoned want her back? If anything, shouldn’t he be bitter? If the roles were reversed, she wouldn’t have anything to say to him besides a huge “fuck you.“ Maybe he was better than her in that aspect. She had to admit that she didn’t have the most forgiving heart.

“I don’t know Christian, it’s something that I really have to think about, I’m not sure if I’m ready…“

“Nope, let’s stop it right there,“ Christian cut her off. “You said that you would think about it and that’s good enough for me. I don’t want to rush into anything; I just want a chance. As you can see, I’m a very patient man. I’m willing to wait.“

Jamie shook her head in disbelief, “You’re something else, you know that?“

Christian smiled, “I try to be. I was serious when I said that I wanted you to be my wife. I wanted to marry you and I had every intention of doing it. Now that I’m finally free, I hope to make my dream a reality. I understand that we have to make up for lost time and that we can’t just pick up where we left off.“

“I’m glad that you understand that. I’m not making you any promises. I don’t know if I will want pick up where we left off. As I told you, I’m different from the woman that you once knew. My needs are completely different now,“ Jamie said before she finished her drink.

“Good, because so are mine,“ he grabbed her free hand and caressed it on the table. “Time and a fair chance, that’s all I’m asking for.“

“I swear time flies when you’re having fun,“ Christian said as he walked Jamie to the door. “Time has always ceased to exist when I’m with you.“

Jamie nodded because she could relate to what he meant. There were times when they would lock themselves in his small apartment for complete weekends and never come out. Their weekends were filled with alcohol, food, TV, and a ton of sex. There was no stress when she was with him, only joy.

She wanted more for her life in terms of her career but she wasn’t willing to make the trade-off. She wanted to spend time with Christian so much more. So she didn’t want to put in the extra hours that were required in order for her to become great. Who needed greatness when you could have a ton of sex and enjoy the company of an amazing man?

She could sure use one of those weekends now. She would settle for only a few hours of the magic that she and Christian created. It had been far too long since she was in the arms of a man that she trusted completely. One that knew her and that loved her only. Christian never made her feel as if she had to compete for his love. She knew that there wasn’t any competition; he only had eyes for her. That comforting feeling was addictive and it took a long time for her get used to being alone.

She was so angry with him. The feeling of seeing him behind bars and sitting in court could never be erased from her memory. She stayed in a constant state of confusion during that time. One minute she wanted to yell and scream at him for jeopardizing their life together, and the next minute she wanted to cry and kiss him. She missed him so much and crying herself to sleep was the norm for her. Eventually she locked that part of herself away so that she could make it. Now, the same man that she locked out of her heart was asking for another chance.

As they stood in front of her door, Jamie contemplated asking him in. Should she give him another chance? Should she allow herself to ease her loneliness even if it was only for one night? If she let him inside, they were going to have sex, there was no doubt about it. The chemistry between them was sizzling. He kept staring at her lips with longing and she at his. His lips looked just as soft as she remembered.

“I had a really good time with you,“ Christian tucked a loose tendril of her hair behind her ear, “I always have a good time with you.“

“Thank you for inviting me out. I think I needed it. Sometimes I forget to have fun,“ Jamie admitted.

“That’s what I’m here for.“

“Is it?“ she asked.

“For now,“ he grinned. “I’m just here for fun... for now. Until you let me do more, be more.“

Jamie closed her eyes as she fought the internal war raging inside of her. Was she ready for what she was getting ready to do? Would she truly ever be ready? Her romantic life took horrible turns because of her own indecisiveness. She always overthought the decisions that were great for her and jumped into the situations that had catastrophic repercussions.

Screw it. She deserved to be happy right? She deserved to finally do something for herself that wouldn’t backfire in her face. Jamie opened her eyes and the sight of a familiar car caught her eye. It was Nathan’s car. Her throat went dry and she coughed.

What the hell was Nathan doing at her place? She had to get Christian out of there so that she could see what he wanted.

“I’ve had a great time tonight, but I think that wine has given me a horrible headache. I’m going to call it a night.“

Christian tried to hide his disappointment, “Oh, I hope you feel better. Can I get you something to help ease the headache? I can go to the store and bring you back whatever you need.“

“No, thank you. I have everything that I need. I’m going to take a pill and get some rest. I appreciate the offer, it’s really sweet.“

“If you need anything don’t hesitate to contact me, you know that I’m here for you,“ he kissed her on the cheek and made his way to his vehicle. She watched him drive off and wondered what was about to happen next.

***

Christian smiled as he drove away in his car. He was finally making progress with Jamie. He thought that he’d lost her forever. He had so many sleepless nights in his cell thinking about her. When she refused to take any of his calls he was hurt but not upset. How the hell was she supposed to react? He couldn’t expect her to put her entire life on hold for him and a portion of him didn’t want her to. Now, he was out of prison and he had to the chance to rebuild the life he always dreamed of. He was back in the saddle with work and now it looked like he was about to get his woman back.

His leg bobbed up and down anxiously as he drove and he realized that he had to pee. He should have done it before he left the restaurant but he didn’t want to leave Jamie, not even for a few minutes? How lovesick was that? He grinned to himself. The drive back to his place was over a half hour, he couldn’t make it that long.

Christian turned his car around and so that he could catch Jaime before she got in the bed. He would use her restroom really quickly and then take his butt home. He rounded the corner where she lived and drove down the block. Jamie was still outside on her porch but she wasn’t alone. On her porch was a white man.
Who the hell is that,
he asked himself,
probably a salesman or something.
The look on Jamie’s face told him different. There was a pained expression that he thought was only reserved for him.

He watched in horror as Jamie opened her door, the two of them stepped inside, and closed the door.

Chapter9

Jamie paced her loft like a caged lioness, “What the hell are you doing at my place? You can come see me at my office like all of my other clients.“

Nathan narrowed his eyes and ignored her anger, “Who was that man?“

“That’s none of your business!“ she spat. “That’s none of your fucking business. Why are you here? Did you screw up again? Did you find some prostitute and talk her ear off? Did your wife put you out after she realized that you’re never going to stop cheating on her? What do you want?“

Nathan shook his head, “I came by because I wanted to see you. I wanted to talk to you.“

“Come by my office on Monday. Never come here again,“ she said angrily.

How did he have the ability to make her so upset? His presence alone frazzled all of her senses. He didn’t have any right to show up at her place, ruin the end of her date, and to upset her the way that he did. She needed him out of her personal life. The only way that could happen was if he stopped showing up at her home.

“So you aren’t going to answer my question?“ he took three long steps towards her, closing the distance between them.

“No,“ she said as she pushed him back. “I’m not going to answer your question. You don’t have any right to ask it. What makes you think that I owe you any explanation? We’re not together, weren’t not screwing and you’re married. Does Stephanie know that you’re here?“

Nathan closed the distance between them again, “No, she doesn’t know that I’m here. It’s so hard seeing you again. It’s so hard having you back into my life.“

“I didn’t come to you, you came to me. You’re free to leave out of the same door that you walked in through. If you want to end things with my company, that’s your right,“ she said in frustration. “Why are we going through this? I was well on my way to getting over you, to getting over all of the drama that you’ve brought into my life. I can’t do this with you.“ Her voice was no longer angry, but pleading. She was practically begging him to leave her alone. Normal was all that she wanted. She wanted to be with someone that didn’t have a ton of complications and Nathan came with more than his fair share.

“I know that I came to you. I came to you because I missed you, honestly. My life without you in it has been very unremarkable. I thought that having you in my life this way would be enough. I thought that just being able to see you every now and then would be enough. Seeing you so much and not being able to have you, it kills me,“ Nathan said desperately.

“That’s not my problem, it’s yours. I’m no longer making your problems my own unless you’re paying me to deal with it. I can’t do this. You need to leave, now.“

Nathan refused to give in that easily, he couldn’t allow her to make him walk out of her life again. He let her do it before and it was one of the worse decisions he’d ever made. She still wanted him just as badly as he wanted her. She was trying to move on without him and he couldn’t allow that either. Nathan placed a hand behind her head and pulled her mouth to his. He ravenously devoured her stubborn mouth. She was frozen in shock for a few moment, her body went completely frigid. He wondered if he made a mistake, maybe he’d misread everything.

Jamie couldn’t believe it! The bastard came her house and kissed her. He fucking kissed her! She asked him to leave but he took what he wanted. She wanted to slap him across the face and put him out. However, her body was on fire. Her body begged for her to give in, to give in to the unmet need that was brewing inside of her for almost seven months. He pulled back from her, to break their kiss but she pulled him back. She grabbed him by his shirt and gave him back the kiss that he’d given to her just a few seconds earlier. She was ready for more; she needed more.

How can he make me feel this way; so completely overwhelmed by my feelings for him?
Jamie thought to herself.

She held him tight, as if he was an apparition. She was afraid that he would disappear at any moment. Eventually, she pulled back to look in his eyes.

Before opening her mouth to speak he held a shaking finger to his lips. “I’m so sorry about the pain that I’ve caused you. My feelings for you terrifies me and you deserve so much better.“

“I feel the same way,“ she whispered. Their eyes held each other in the silence. Her heart beat fast and he wrapped his arms around her, pulled her close and held her tight as if he never wanted to let go. Her face buried in his neck and she inhaled his clean scent.

Pushing her shoulders back he brushed her hair off of her face and looked into her eyes. There was softness there that she’d never seen before but behind it burned something else. His touch was soft, their lips barely met. Then it was slightly more firm. The third time his tongue flicked against hers. His hands moved back to her hand, tangled in her hair, and pulled her to him again. His kiss was hard, overflowing with the passion that she saw burning in his eyes. He crushed his lips to hers again, melding them together, his tongue searched her mouth, wrapping around her own.

They lost themselves in each other. The minutes felt like hours and seconds at the same time. She couldn’t get enough of his hands on her, his lips against hers. She felt like a thirsty woman that had been given access to a cool stream of clean water. However, she knew that her access to the stream was limitless. She took her fill and was determined to get enough to hold her over just in case another drought occurred.

The knot of anxiety in her stomach gradually eased and was replaced by the intoxicating wave of desire that only he aroused in her. His hands pulled at her clothes, her at his. He pushed her back onto the plush leather sofa, his body pressed down on top of her, his dick hardening between them. Soon his mouth moved to her neck, licking and sucking and biting her flesh; in a feeble attempt to mark her as his own.

Jamie pushed him back and he fell onto the floor, pulling her down on top of him. She leaned over him and kissed his neck.

“Clothes off,“ Jamie demanded. For the new few moments clothes flew everywhere. She didn’t want any barrier between them. She leaned over him and kissed his neck, moving down to flick her tongue against his nipples, sucking them hard. She straddled him and rocked her hips against him, caressing his hard mass with her soaking pussy. She continued her path downwards, kissing every inch of the flesh that she missed so much.

Reaching his dick, she took him gently in her hands. Her mouth practically salivated as she looked at his thick and long, rock-hard rod. Jamie brought her lips softly to his head. Adjusting her position she licked, hardly touching, from base to tip. A soft groan of appreciation escaped his lips. The sound sent a shiver down her spine as she opened her mouth to him. Slowly she took his length in her throat, deeper than she’d ever dared before. She had an intense need to devour him; she wanted all of him. After drawing her lips back, her tongue traced the line back to the tip. She slowly worked him in and out, each time drawing him deep.

He grabbed her to stop her mouth’s sensual assault, it was sure to drive him over the edge. He pulled her up to his mouth to kiss her again.

“I need to hear you cum,“ he said against her lips; she moaned in agreement.

He pressed his fingers into her hips, pulling her up his body. She reached out to grab the chair in front of her as he positioned her hips above his head, shooting his tongue out to flick it against her clit. A long teasing lick, drawing a soft moan from her. He slipped his tongue seductively inside of her, and kept it hard as he probed her repeatedly with it. Her fingers gripped the fabric of the hair, her head sank down into it, breathing hard. He slightly altered the tilt of her hips, bringing his tongue to her clit again. It was hard and eager for his touch as he slipped it into his mouth, sucked it hard, and allowed his teeth to lightly brush against her most sensitive spot. More moans forced their way from her lips and she pushed her hips down further to meet his mouth.

He built up a rhythm, flicking his tongue. Her hips rocked gently, she could feel her orgasm nearing. He quickly got her there, his skills were being put to good use. His tongue was fast and he relentlessly constructed the explosion of pleasure that ripped through her body. She threw her head back, a rough scream echoing throughout her loft, her lips struggled to form his name as she yelled it.

Not allowing her a moment’s rest, he pushed back her hips, adjusting his own position, lying on top of her, pushing his lips down on hers, kissing her passionately. Switching his attention to her neck, he kissed hard. In one swift motion he slid inside of her. She wrapped her legs around him, pulling him closer and deeper. He moved expertly, rhythmically, fast, hard. Her voice grew hoarse from the moans that he constantly forced. His ruthless thrusts had her quickly screaming again, more pleasure pulsated through her body.

Her body was spent from the intensity of her pleasure, she couldn’t help but push him back, pulling herself on top of him. His dick slipped easily inside of her drenched cavern. She straightened her back, threw her head back, gripping her hair with her hands as she rode him. She couldn’t think of anything else but finding the orgasm that was on the brink of tearing her apart. She kept a relentless pace, torturing her body, pushing herself far beyond the limits of her endurance. She couldn’t, wouldn’t stop. Jamie continued to thrust her hips, he keep driving deep inside of her. Her mind floated away into a world where there was only him. She could only hear his groans and hard breaths. He was holding back. Although her eyes were closed, she could feel him watching her intensely.

He let her continue until she collapsed onto his chest. He allowed her body to sink to the floor beside him. Nathan looked down at her, took his place between her legs that was soaked with pleasure. He sank inside of her, a couple of hard thrusts before finally allowing himself the sweet release of filling her with his liquid heat.

They lay still on the floor, holding each other tight, their sweat and juices mingling between their hot bodies. Jamie gulped air into her lungs, her mind was fuzzy but she knew with absolute certainty that it was where she belonged.

***

An hour later, Jamie watched Nathan get dressed from the comfort of her couch. Her body still sang, and she felt like she was finally relaxed after months of pent up aggression. The future was murky, but she was content to enjoy the moment.

“I’m leaving Stephanie,“ Nathan said as he buttoned his shirt.

“Wait,“ Jamie said in disbelief, “Are you serious?“

“I want to be with you,“ he said seriously. “I don’t care about any of this business crap since I’m not happy. I was searching for something with all of these business ventures and the publicity and I’ve never felt more lonely. The only time that I feel like myself is when I’m with you. It’s the only time that I’m truly happy. I don’t need more money or fame to be happy, I want you.“

“I can’t even begin to tell you about how happy that makes me, but I want to be sure that you’re serious. We just finished having sex, emotions are high, and things can change,“ she sat up and leaned against the couch.

“It’s not a phase, this is something that I’ve been thinking about for a while. Over these last six or seven months, I can’t count all of the times that I’ve dreamed of running away and starting a life with you somewhere far from the public eye. I just want to live on an island with you, I want to have kids with you, and I want to wake up next to you every day. That’s all that I want. If that’s the only thing that I do for the rest of my life, I’ll be happy. I have more than enough money, we can get away from all of this,“ he insisted.

Jamie’s heart leapt at the sincerity of her words, he meant everything that he said. It was endearing and it sounded lovely but it was just a dream. “Stop saying stuff like that, you know it’s not that simple.“

“Nothing worth having is simple,“ he stated plainly. “I just need to find the right time.“ He walked over to her and kissed her on the forehead. “I have to leave for now, but I can’t wait until I see you again.“

“I’m looking forward to it,“ she smiled weakly. “Go home and really think. Don’t play with my life Nathan. Don’t get my hopes up to only change your mind later. I can’t take it.“

“Just give me a chance to prove it to you.“

Nathan left shortly after. Jamie knew that she had a huge decision to make. What should have been a no-brainer, was incredibly difficult.
