We were married two weeks after that fateful day. I was so ready. My challenge was evading my SEAL bros attempts to shanghai me. My brother Marc had my 6 and I made it through. But, great Caesar’s ghost, they got me good during our next deployment. All I can tell you is I had to get new uniforms. That deployment was rough. I left a few days after we were married. I wanted to be home with Celia but I also wanted to be with my brothers doing what I was trained to do. What I’m good at. She makes it easy. She wraps me up in love and lets me be who I am. She says she understands but I know it’s hard.
There’ll be years I’m gone more than I’m home. But when I’m with her, I’ll be with her a thousand percent. She’s right there for me. There when I come home, allowing me to take up where I left off. Quick to encourage and tell me to knock my BS off. She knows I’m not perfect and I don’t expect her to be. We’ve had a few disagreements and we’ve made up. I’ve seen her mad once. I sorta told her I was thinking of leaving the teams because of her. Leaving was fine with her but she was not going to let me put it on her. Believe me I don’t want to see her mad again.
And Sophia, who, thank God looks like her mother, has me wrapped around her tiny fingers. She does have my hazel eyes. Celia calls them mood eyes, ’cause they change. Celia is a great mom. A natural. All her worries and fears were for nothing. Nieces, nephews and team kids love her, especially my girl, Darla.
When Sophia was two months old, I deployed again. I won’t say leaving them was easy. The ramp on the Globemaster we were flying began to close and for a brief moment, I panicked. I mean, what was I doing leaving my family? Then it came to me they were the reason I was leaving. Doing what I was doing. I go to faraway places to keep the bad guys there. Keep them away from my family and yours. I’m damn good at what I do and I’m willing to do it.
I am a Navy SEAL.

About the Author
Rita grew up running the beaches of a barrier island on Florida’s east coast. An island brat, she spent more time climbing weathered oaks and chasing alligators than playing with the dolls her family gave her. She married a Marine and feels fortunate to have lived many places and traveled to the states and countries she didn’t live in.
Rita loves living on an island. She enjoys brilliant sunrises over the Atlantic; walks on the beach having conversations with her characters; enjoying sunsets over the intracoastal waterway from the dock.
She reads or listens to two to three books a week (she prefers listening while doing housework so as not to waste time). She has no favorite author, she just loves a good story.
