“They’ll never take them all, there’s not enough of them.  We need to do what Liz said and get everything ready.’

“Where are we going to go?  We’re surrounded!”

“Just take the damn bag!”  She yelled as she pushed him out of the way.  Liz remained directly in front of the fire, sword drawn and ready.  “We’re ready.  What do you want us to do?” She yelled over the noise.

“Get everything in a circle and stay close together.”  She answered without turning.

Gear piled high, they watched as the vampires fell back to the confines of the camp.  Fifty wolves were in the clearing beyond, with more entering every second.  Mar screamed at the top of her lungs, “Stop!  Stay where you are!  You should not be here!”

The wolves faltered in their approach, but slowly continued on.

“Sarah, can’t you do something?”  Ashley yelled.

Sarah shook her head, but tried.  “
What are you doing here?  We are allies.  You should not be here.”

A hateful voice responded, “
You have no power over us.  We come to claim what is ours.

She doesn’t want to go with you.  She is safe with us.”

Laughter filled Sarah’s head.
“Her safety is no concern.  She is unneeded.  We will not give up control when she comes of age.  Her family has done enough damage to the pack.”

Sarah gasped as Mar screamed.  Latching on to Pete, she held tight, “They’re here to kill me.  Don’t let them get me.  Don’t let them take me!”

Jason and Pete had started to take off their shirts, when Liz yelled, “No!  Don’t shift.  Trust me!  Everyone stay where you are!”

Several small blue lights appeared around the camp, growing larger until they looked like large oval blue mirrors.  One after another, humans exited the portals, quickly moving to stand beside the vampires.  Each one held their arms in front of them, palms facing outward.  The same blue light that came from the portals, now shot from their hands like glowing blue water.

The wolves snarled and growled, but drew back in fear.

And old withered woman hurried behind Liz and tugged
on her sleeve.  “We have to go. They can’t keep this up for long.”

“Yes, Gran, I know.”  Then turning to Sarah and the others, said, “Grab your things, we have to get out of here.”

The old woman brought her hands up and just beside them a new portal opened.

“You don’t expect us to go in there do you?” Shad asked.

“It won’t hurt you.  Hurry, we don’t have much time.  The witches will weaken quickly.”  Liz answered.

“Where are you taking us?” Jason asked.

“To the Citadel and Brogan.  You must hurry, we’re out of time.”

Worried glances passed between all except Sarah.  Regardless of what was going on, or where they were headed, she was overjoyed to be reunited with the one person who’d been most like a mother to her.  Taking a quick look around the camp, she had no clue as she stepped inside the portal, that she was saying goodbye to her old life.  Worries and trouble would find her, but her
family
was finally whole.  As with everything, there is always change.  And although sometimes painful, change is good.  Without it, there is no growing.  With growing comes purpose.  Inheritance is not only money left behind for those that live on.  Sometimes, if you know how to love, it can be relationships forged while moving through life.

Clasping Liz’s hand, Michael smiled.  “Well we’ve done it again.”

“Yes, we sure have.  How many more will we inherit?”  She asked.

“Many more, according to Brogan,” he answered.

“Let’s go home.”

She smiled as other portals appeared.  Those left behind stepped through, leaving the wolves to quietly stare in amazement.
