He
told her that the main delegate was the owner of the chain, a man called Bill Cameron.  She could tell that he liked the man by the way he talked of him, but he was frustrated that the talks seemed to be taking so long.  As Bill Cameron appeared, she looked at the small man before her, seeing how he in turn fixed her with a serious frown.  Nikias moved forward with a genuinely warm grin the two men shaking each other’s hands enthusiastically.

“Bill, I would like you to meet my friend, and sister-in-law, Diona Brown”, he said looking at her with a small mischievous glint in his eyes.  “Nice to meet you”, the gruff man bellowed, shaking her hand firmly, while looking at her with assessing eyes.  “You’re Nikias’ sister-in-law?”, he asked in surprise.  “Yes”, she smiled at him, “Daryle, my sister, and Nikias’ brother Alexis got married a couple of weeks ago - they are on honeymoon just now”  Diona felt the hard look that Bill Cameron gave both her and Nikias.  “I see…Do you do anything?...Work?”

She could feel the anger from Nikias, who was suddenly incensed at the disrespect in his voice towards her.  Looking at the man before him with a steely look in his eyes, she was surprised to see him rising
so quickly to her defence as he interrupted coldly.  “Actually Bill, Diona is a damn good nurse”  Bill Cameron’s attitude changed almost immediately,  “A nurse… I have a lot of time for the nursing profession”, he bellowed loudly, a warm smile suddenly lighting up his face.  “Why didn’t you say that in the first place Nikias, glad to see you mixing with the right kind of girl for a change”  He gave a small wink to Diona, who gave a small smile back.  To her surprise Bill Cameron then took her arm, insisting that she walk with him.  Looking back, she saw the surprised look on Nikias’ face as she moved off with the older man.

The night
was a great success.  Nikias scanned the crowd, finally finding Diona standing talking to a group of guests, her lovely face laughing at some joke.  She had been an instant hit with the delegates, her ability to listen attentively and her gentle nature gaining her friends wherever she went.  Bill Cameron admired her most, quickly getting her to offer him advice with regard to pains he was having in his back.  Diona recommended a certain type of exercise, advising him to speak with a doctor, frowning as he asked if there were pills he could take for it instead.  Diona slipped almost automatically into nurse mode, almost scolding the older man for his reliance on drugs. “Back pain is best remedied with exercise Mr Cameron”, she told him primly, as he laughed loudly, patting her arm affectionately before taking a note of her advice, a wicked twinkle in his eyes as he smiled warmly at her.  Later he was complimentary when he and Nikias stood together talking about plans for the meeting.  “That one is a keeper Nikias”, he said, watching as Nikias shrugged noncommittally.

For four days they
performed the same routine.  Each day they ensured that the delegates had plenty to do, and were able to enjoy the many facilities on board, or at the ports the ship docked at.  At night they would both welcome the guests at the cocktail parties, both moving around the room separately, coming together at regular intervals, and she enjoyed it when he often pulled her onto the dance floor, smiling down at her as he told her how well she was doing and how beautiful she looked.  When they would return to their stateroom they would hold each other, their hungry bodies never tiring of the other.

However, for four days, Diona
had not slept as much as she should, and by the time the delegates were ready to leave, she was starting to feel the effects of overdoing things, reminded that she was still recovering from an illness which could have killed her. She was aware of how Nikias watched her, worried with how pale she had become, his voice full of concern as he often asked if she was OK.  Lying in bed on the final morning, the day they were due to fly to the States - something which she had not really been looking forward to - she turned to him.

“Nikias, maybe you should go alone”, she said softly to him, as he looked down at her, his face showing how worried he was with how white her complexion had become.  “I can go back to the island, I need to rest”, she said softly, finally admitting to herself the need to recuperate slowly.  He frowned, his expression unsure.  “Yes, maybe that would be the best thing to do”, he said softly, knowing that there would not really be anything for her to do there as the talks would run from morning until evening, but a cloud descended on him as he looked warily at her, his eyes full of concern.  “But will you still be there when I get back?”  Diona looked up at him in surprise, before smiling softly.  “Yes”, she said gently, seeing the warmth and relief coming to his face.

“Then that is settled.  I’ll organise for the boat to take you back this afternoon”, he smiled before leaning down to kiss her, that kiss soon deepening as both knew they would not see the other for at least three days, both already missing the other.

CHAPTER TEN

That had been three days ago, and she had returned to the island, missing him most at night when she would lie alone in bed.  He called her several times each day, relieved to hear as each day went by how much stronger she sounded on the phone.  She in turn heard how well the talks were going, laughing with him as he shared stories and jokes with her.

With nothing else to do, she
quickly felt her strength returning to normal, spending time enjoying the sun.  However, not one to be completely idle, Diona spent time with some voluntary agencies on the mainland who had contacted her when she had been identified as Nikias’ new girlfriend.  While initially just looking to create a link between themselves and the billionaire, they had been surprised to find that Diona was knowledgeable and able to offer real support to these agencies.  They were most impressed and surprised when they found out about her work with similar organisations abroad.  Diona found that she was settling very happily into life on the island and was blissfully content, only missing the man she loved with all her heart.

On the fourth night
, she talked with her sister, who had returned that day from her honeymoon.  Daryle was taken aback to discover that she was still in Greece.  However, Diona felt that she was not surprised to find out that she was staying to be with Nikias.  When she questioned her reaction, Daryle giggled and refused to comment, telling her just to take her time and enjoy herself.  As she hung up, Diona frowned, not understanding Daryle's attitude which she thought would have been one of shock.

The next
morning, Diona curled up in front of the television to watch the news.  As she listened, a segment on the new merger between the Dranias and Cameron empires was aired, and she smiled softly.  She knew that the talks had been successful and that agreement had been reached, knowing that this would mean that Nikias would be returning soon.  Diona felt her whole body warm at this thought, knowing that their reunion would be intense.  As she watched the item, the smile dropped from her lips, as she saw Bill Cameron being interviewed.  In the background she could see Nikias standing beside a beautiful dark-haired young woman, who she instantly recognised.  As she gasped, she watched as he leant down and dropped a kiss on the woman’s mouth, before he pulled her into his arms in a hug.  Diona felt her heart breaking, the coldness flooding every part of her body as a wretched sob left her mouth.  Standing in total shock, she stared at the picture of the two of them, as it mocked her.  As the interview moved to another story the phone beside her rang, and with fingers which were shaking so hard, she struggled to press the answer button.

On the other end Nikias
sounded bright and happy, his voice changing as she remained silent.  “Diona, are you OK?”, he asked, a note of concern creeping into his voice.  He heard her sniffling, the unmistakable sound of her crying on the other end of the line.  “What’s wrong?”, he asked her as she stared at the television, her heart lying shattered around her feet.  “Talk to me”  She could hear his voice grim from the other end.  “How dare you!”, she snarled sharply, her voice so full of venom.  “I hate you Nikias”, her whole voice shaking with the hurt she felt.

“Diona, what the hell is going on?”, he asked, a note of panic in his voice.  “I saw you on the TV Nikias, I saw you kissing that woman”, she finally managed to get out.  “God I have been so stupid”  From the other end of the line she heard him sucking in a deep breath.  “Listen to me Diona, that was nothing… Anya is just a business friend”

She
laughed derisively.  “Really Nikias, is that what they call it these days?”, she cried out, before another sob caught in her throat.  “Diona...”, she could hear as she continued over him.  “Goodbye Nikias.  I’m leaving, it’s over…For good. Just leave me alone”, she cried, slamming the phone down on him.  As the phone rang again, she ignored it, letting it ring out, as she sunk down onto the floor, the tears flowing from her as the hurt ripped so painfully through her.

Finally, as the phone
stopped ringing she was eventually able to pull herself together.  Lifting the phone, she rang through to the boat.  As she requested it to come for her in an hour, she was shocked to hear the skipper sounding so awkward.  “I’m sorry Miss Brown, I can’t do that”, he said, his voice nervous.  “Mr Dranias phoned to tell me that he didn’t want the boat on the island today”

Diona
hung up the phone, anger taking hold of her as she walked around the room, wiping the tears from her eyes as she clenched her fists by her side.  Finally moving over to the phone again she lifted it once more, this time to call for a taxi boat, gasping in shock to hear the dead silence from the other end.  Realisation quickly came on her as she stared at the phone.  He had once again imprisoned her on the island.

Angrily
, Diona moved up to their room, pulling all her clothes from the closet and moving them into her old room.  He might be able to keep her there, but it would not be forever and she was damn sure that when he did come back that she would not still be in his bed.

For the rest of the day, Diona
stayed in her room, her whole heart crying for what she could never have.  She had not even felt up to trying to find another way off the island, still trying to come to terms with his betrayal of her.  She knew that one day he would find somebody else, but she never expected to feel so hurt and destroyed when it finally happened.  As she went to bed that night, she fell into a disturbed sleep, his face before her as he smiled so warmly, his mouth kissing her, and even in sleep she cried, calling out his name with such pain.

The sound of a
car driving up to the building woke Diona from her restless slumber, and from her bedroom, she heard the door downstairs opening, knowing that it could be only one person.  Jumping up from her bed, she ran down the stairs, seeing Nikias who was hanging up on his mobile ending a call, which had him sighing angrily.  Briefly she thought how tired he looked, although as angry as she was at that point, she did not care.

Seeing her and the way she
came flying down the stairs, her face full of anger, he stood tall and firm, his face suddenly so grim and wary.  “How dare you, how dare you imprison me here again Nikias?  Damn you, you flaunt your new mistress in my face and then imprison me here again”

“She is not my mistress, Diona”, he replied, his tone firm, seeing how she stood before him wearing only a silky nightdress.  Showing off her wonderful figure, he ached for her, as her long blonde hair hung around her whole body which was so rigid at that moment, her hands held down at her side, her fists balled with anger.  “I don’t care”, she lied, fighting the tears which threatened to spill down from the fury and hurt she was feeling.  “I want to leave… you can’t keep me here”

Nikias
threw up his arms with frustration at her continued determination to leave.  Swearing in Greek, he moved forward.  “For the last time Diona, there is nothing between Anya and I other than business, and you are not leaving here while you think there is”, he said as he moved forward and in one sure move swept her up into his arms lifting her as though she was a small child, while she struggled against him.  With determination he climbed the stairs, moving to their bedroom as she continued fighting him.

“Put me down, damn you, put me down”, she hissed at him, her arms pushing against him as he moved into his bedroom.  He looked at the bed, so neat and tidy, frowning knowing that she been in bed when he came in, and realising that it had not been his.  “Why were you not sleeping here?”, he demanded, looking down at her.  “Because you and I are finished… through, and I have absolutely no intention of sleeping with you ever again”, she cried, her voice high with the anger she was feeling.  Nikias looked down on her, seeing the emotion in her eyes along with the determination and hurt.

“You and I are not finished”, he bit out firmly, dropping her unceremoniously onto the bed.  “Yes we are”, she cried back, lifting herself, ready to flee from the room “You are nothing but a two-timing…”  “I am not having an affair”, he interrupted, his voice harsh, as she glared at him her eyes flashing angrily, with tears brimming, ready to fall.  “Liar”, she cried out. “I saw you.  It was all over the TV.  God I was so stupid”, she said as her voice cracked suddenly, and despite herself the tears started to fall down her cheeks.

Nikias
groaned, moving to pull her into his arms, feeling as she tried to push against him, before he started to gently lick the tears from her face, feeling as her whole body shuddered. As his lips moved to her mouth, she moaned, a deep haunted sound, as she pulled her head away.  Nikias dropped his mouth to her neck, kissing up and down the graceful length of it, until his tongue gently moved back up to take her ear with his teeth.  “I swear to God Diona, there is nothing going on between Anya and I.  I will take you to meet with her if it will make you see that.  I kissed her to congratulate her on her engagement with a friend of mine.  That was all”

He could feel her body stop fighting him, as his mouth
once again searched for hers, feeling her lips against his as he kissed her, feeling her hands move to cup his face.  As he pulled back to look down into her eyes Diona looked back, those beautiful blue eyes so confused and sad.  “I want to believe you Nikias”, she said, her eyes dropping as she looked away.  “But I remembered seeing her before”, she added softly, looking back at him the suspicion still so vivid in her eyes.

“Back at the hotel, the day you collapsed”, he replied softly, seeing her nod.  “She was there with Marco, her boyfriend – now fiancé, he was behind me”  Diona looked back at him, frowning with confusion.  She had not seen anybody else other than Nikias that day, only really remembering Anya when she saw her again, kissing him on the TV.

“Diona, if I wanted to see somebody else, then I would”, he stated, his voice so full of honesty that she stared back at him, “but I would end any existing relationships I had.  I have never believed in going behind somebody’s back, and I don’t want our relationship to end. What we have is good”  He held her eyes as a flash of doubt crossed them.  “I only want to be with you… is that so hard for you to believe?”, he asked as once again his mouth moved down to take hers.  This time her arms wound around his neck as she kissed him back.

“I’m sorry Nikias…I really thought”, she sniffed, as he sighed gently against her, “I couldn’t bear it”  As her hands moved through his hair, her fingers holding his head close to her, he lifted his head again.  “I would never do that to you Diona”, he said so softly, feeling as she shivered against him.  “I stopped the boat so that I could explain to you… make you see that you are the only woman in my life, I didn’t want you leaving again”, he said, his voice sensual as his breath fanned her cheek.

With a long groan Diona
felt the need within her rise as her fingers moved under his jacket to gently run along his back.  With a deep masculine groan, he pulled down the nightdress she was wearing so that his hands and mouth could take her breasts in a primitive possessive action which caused her to shudder violently against him.  As he kissed her body, his hands pulled the soft material from her, tearing it away from her so that he could look down on her naked body, to see how it was quivering with such a need for him.  She felt his mouth move over her stomach, his tongue moving over her as she closed her eyes, her head rolling back with such sweet sensations which ripped through her, as his mouth moved between her legs, to the moist centre of her she groaned beneath him.  As he drove her wild with his tongue which flicked inside her, pushing her to her very limits and hands which moved across her body, she cried out his name, feeling the waves rise within her.  He however, pulled away from her and as she opened her eyes with such need and confusion, she watched as he pulled the clothes from himself discarding them casually as he lifted her up the bed until he could lie over her, before moving between her legs and surging into her.

Diona
flew straight into orgasm, only just holding onto her sanity as the waves of pleasure crashed through her, holding her for an eternity as her head spun, totally unaware of how she cried out his name.  He drove deeper and faster into her, needing to join her and feeling the waves building within him, as she beat all around him, totally unable to stop himself, crying out her name when his body became rigid and he joined her.  As he gasped loudly, his face contorted, showing the power of his release panting against her neck, feeling her heart beating so fast against him.

The two
continued to cling to each other, both so shaken by the power and intensity of their reaction brought on by how close they had come to losing the other, until finally he rolled from her, still fighting to bring his breathing back to normal.  He felt her lift herself to look over him, his hand moving to gently stroke her hair as she looked down on him.  “I believe you Nikias”, she finally said, looking at him, her eyes so sad, as he looked back at her, panic rising within him.

“Then nothing has changed Diona”, he whispered softly back, his thumb rubbing against her mouth, feeling the softness of her lips.  She however, looked down on him, the sadness still so visible.  “Everything has changed”, she whispered softly, “I can’t keep doing this Nikias.  I can’t stay here anymore”  He frowned, rising onto his elbow beside her.  “Of course you can”, he stated, his voice harder as a cold feeling gripped the pit of his stomach. “I have explained everything to you Diona”, he began as she moved a finger to silence him.
