“Yea,” Kit chimed in. “You’ll have to go to bed so Mr. Claus can come.”
Jester gave them a look that said he was tired of waiting.
“Come on, let’s get some shut-eye. Tomorrow is our first Christmas together.” Rogue picked up his bride and carried her up the stairs, their small friend following close behind.

Christmas morning dawned bright and clear. Crisp and cold. Kit stood in front of the fireplace with her hands behind her, warming her backside. Rogue came in from outside with an armload of logs for the fire. Their mothers were busy in the kitchen, their happy voices mingling with the sound of carols that played on the radio.
“Need me to warm you up?” He gave her a lustful grin.
“Yes, a little later, for sure.” She stepped to one side so he could load up the wood bin. From outside, the sound of a vehicle approaching drew their attention. “I wonder who that could be? Do you think its Elijah and Lucia?”
“Too early for them, I think.” Rogue knew exactly what it was–her main Christmas present. “Maybe we ought to go see.”
The excitement in his voice didn’t escape her. “What have you done?”
“Something I’ll always try to do–make you happy.” He grabbed her hand and they went out on the porch.
A big double-cab dually was pulling up. Hitched to the back was a horse trailer. “A horse?” Kit asked, puzzled.
“Not just any horse. This is my big present to you, my darling.” He led her to the back of the trailer as a man led a coal black stallion to solid ground. The big horse pranced around. “Does he look familiar?”
Kit placed a hand over her fast beating heart. “He’s the spitting image of Rogue-Angel,” the horse that her father had given her so long ago.
“This is his son, Rafael. I hope you like him.” Rogue waited, eager to see what his wife’s reaction would be. He expected her to run to the horse, throwing her arms around the animal’s neck. Instead, she ran to him.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
He caught her close. “I’d do anything for you. You know that, don’t you?”
“Yes, I do.” She kissed him long and hard, then went to greet the beautiful gift her husband had spent a small fortune on.
