Lost in His Love 3

A Novel By

Shantay

Prologue

Alonzo slept peacefully for the few hours that he did go to sleep. He was smart and he knew that since he acted an ass last night that there was a bounty over his head. He didn’t go back home last night he made one of his hoes check out a hotel room for two nights under their name.

Kaylen’s deceitful ass was still on his mind. He wanted to do so much more to her but the fact that she was yelling alerted him that the police was going to soon come. Alonzo was playing smart and staying three steps ahead of Jared and Donte. He knew how vicious they were and knew what they were capable of to find him.

Alonzo wanted to call Kaylen and cuss her out but then he thought against it. He was going to pay her a visit pretty soon. He was just going to relax and get his mind right. His biggest target right now Ice, Jared, Donte, and Kaylen. He wanted to kill all four of them and take over what he built.

***

“How are you feeling?” Jasmine asked, as she came into Kaylen’s room with a tray of breakfast.

“Hurt more than anything,” she said.

“I know mama but we’ll get through it together. Jared and Ice is still out looking for him and you know they won’t stop.”

“Where’s Donte?” she asked.

“You know him and Mariah were probably fucking and is still sound asleep. We should hear from them in an hour.”

“Why do my life have to be so damn complicated?” Kaylen asked, to no one in particular.

“Speaking of your life that was Ice the one you were telling us about?”

“Yes, him.”

“Damn loving the crew!” Jasmine laughed, she didn’t see anything wrong with it she just thought it was funny.

“Nothing is funny Jasmine and it’s not even like that with Ice.”

“I know it’s not I’m just messing with you. How were you supposed to know that he was cool with Jared and Donte since he don’t live out here?” Jasmine came to her defense.

“Ice probably doesn’t even wanna talk to me anymore I’m sure.”

“You don’t know that Kaylen.”

“Come on look out how much drama there is in my life.”

“Before you start getting suicidal and all I’ma just leave you alone and let you rest. I have to take Jayla to her ballet class,” Jasmine said, leaving out of the room.

Kaylen knew she really fucked up. Her life was literally in shambles. Alonzo was dead to her in every way. She thought about her nana and instantly got scared. What if Alonzo tried to hurt her? Kaylen called her right away.

“Nana,” Kaylen said when she answered the phone.

“Yes, baby?”

“If Alonzo comes by or calls you don’t answer!” she warned.

“Why would he do that Kaylen? He’s right here eating breakfast at my table,” Loraine said looking at Alonzo who smiled as he ate his grits.

“Nana nooo run or something and do it fast he’s gonna hurt you,” Kaylen yelled.

Her hurt was beating so fast as she jumped out of the bed and ran down the stairs to get a key for one of Jasmine and Jared’s cars. She jumped in one of the cars and sped off. She called Jared from the phone that was connected to the car.

“Jared Jared Jared!” she yelled so loud.

“Kaylen what happened?” he asked.

“Go to my nana house he’s there with her right now!” she screamed.

“I’m on my way!” Jared said busting a U-turn.

He had just picked up Donte and still hasn’t had a minute of sleep yet. He was looking for Alonzo everywhere and couldn’t find him. Alonzo was playing with fire. Donte was still unaware of everything that was going but all he knew from the seriousness of Jared and Ice was that some shit was about to happen.

“Alonzo is at Loraine’s house right now.”

“What are we going over there for?” Donte asked confused.

Jared ran down the whole story to Donte as he drove as fast as he could to Loraine’s house. Kaylen told him that Loraine always kept a spare key in her flowerpot on the porch. Jared, Donte, and Ice all looked through the flowerpots to find the key. Ice found the key and they all were ready to barge into the house without a warning. Ice slid the key into the keyhole and heard Alonzo mumbling but couldn’t hear what he was making out. Jared silenced Donte and Ice so they could hear carefully.

“Your old ass gotta go too. Fuck you and your grand daughter,” Alonzo said as he duct taped Loraine’s mouth. He knew he had to be out fast because he was sure that the police would be coming soon since Loraine had just talked to Kaylen.

“All you motherfuckas are going to wish that y’all never fucked with me,” Alonzo said tying a rope around her.

Jared motioned for Ice and Donte to follow behind him as they crept into the kitchen. Jared knocked Alonzo down from the back of his head. Loraine tried to yell as best as she could but the duct tape was covering her mouth. Alonzo got up and tried to fight back but Ice and Donte were holding him down.

“Do you see what happens when you fuck with my family?” Jared yelled. Ice held Alonzo and Donte removed the duct tape and rope from off of her.

“Listen carefully I need you to call 911 and say someone broke into your house,” Donte carefully repeated. Loraine and obliged and did as she was told.

Jared shot Alonzo and ended his whole life. Jared, Donte, and Ice were getting rid of the evidence and running down their story to Loraine. When the police came they would be fine because it would be ruled as home invasion and everything would be fine legally.

Jared’s house was so far away from L.A. and Kaylen tried her hardest to get to nana’s house. There was so much traffic on the freeway. When she finally pulled up to nana’s neighborhood there was police cars everywhere and her house was taped up. She saw the ambulance loading a body into the back of their truck. Kaylen didn’t allow the car to come to a full stop before she jumped out.

“My grandmother lives here,” she said, pushing past the police to see what was going on.

She melted on the ground in tears as she watched the ambulance drive off. She just knew nana was the one in the back of it but then nana, Donte, Ice, and Jared came walking out of her house. She ran over to them and kissed nana. Her heart couldn’t stop beating so fast.

“Oh my God I thought you were dead!” she yelled.

“We’ll talk later,” she said, kissing and hugging Kaylen so tight.

1 Year Later

It was one year after Alonzo died and Kaylen was still hurt. She gave him so much love and trust for him to turn on her all in the end. Kaylen was so focused on her and her family that a man didn’t fit anywhere in her life. She had enough heartache to last her a lifetime. Nana told her that when she loved and focused on herself God was going to send her a husband.

Jared and Donte were still protective and all up in her business but she wouldn’t have had it any other way. Her brothers were her everything and they always came through when she needed them. The whole situation with Alonzo was a little over dramatic to other people but to Kaylen it was really serious. She didn’t want to be abused and she wasn’t going to allow Alonzo to knock off her family one by one. He got what he deserved.

Ice was still rolling thick with Jared and Donte. For him it wouldn’t stop because together the three of them made money. Ice felt that family bond with Jared and Donte but the only problem was Kaylen. Ice had a talk with Jared and Donte and they gave him their blessing with Kaylen even though it took a while but it’s Kaylen who was the problem. Ice really did have true feelings for Kaylen. He has been around her for the last year but she was the one who kept blowing him off. He tried everything he could have to show her that he wasn’t like the niggas in her past but she wasn’t having it. Maybe sometime in the future they could be together if that’s in God’s will.

Chapter 1

Ice stood at Kaylen’s front door with twelve long stem roses preparing to knock on her door. They have known each other for over a year and he understood what she went through in the past with her ex relationships so he didn’t pursue her so hard but now he wanted her and wanted to put an end to the games she was playing. In his eyes Kaylen should know what type of man he was by now. She should see his sincerity and stop playing him like sucker. Jared and Donte warned him that Kaylen was vulnerable and she wasn’t for the games. She was too focus on herself for the most part. He knocked on her door and waited a whole minute before Kaylen came to the door. She looked like she just woke up. She had on a sports bra, shorts, her hair was pulled back in a bun, and her face was fresh.

“Good morning,” Ice said, handing her the roses.

“Thank you, good morning Ice. What brings you by this early?” she asked.

“Can I come in?” he asked, since she had the door cracked like she was scared for him to enter the apartment.

“Sure,” she hesitantly said.

Kaylen already knew what were Ice’s intentions and what he wanted with her. He expressed how much he wanted her every chance he got but she wasn’t ready for a relationship. She was taking her time getting to know the new her. She was trying to love herself fully before she even thought about giving her heart to another man but Ice was something different. He would send roses to her house occasionally, he was always calling or texting her, and he never let his appreciation for her go unnoticed.

Ice walked over to the stove to see what she was cooking for breakfast. He still lived in Oakland and was only in L.A. for a few days so he needed somewhere to eat breakfast. Kaylen shook her head as she seen him head over to the kitchen. As of lately he was been stopping by unannounced when he was in town.

“Nigga get yo’ hands off of my bacon!” Kaylen said, smiling.

“Damn you can’t sure with me?” he asked.

“I mean maybe you could have one or two.”

“I want you,” he said, never turning his back around.

Ice didn’t feel like there was a need to anyways. He knew what it was with Kaylen. She wasn’t budging for anything no matter how hard he tried. He was soon at the point where he was going to stop trying and let her decide when she’s ready if it’s not too late. See Ice isn’t a hoe ass nigga. He has been there and done that so multiple women isn’t his taste anymore. He wants a wife that he could build with. Ice heard when Kaylen sighed like she was annoyed with him and that really hit a nerve in him.

“Let me holla at you for a minute,” he said, sitting her down on the couch.

“Speak,” she said.

“What’s yo’ deal?”

“What are you talking about?”

“A nigga waits for you for a whole year and you still acting phony towards me. If you don’t wanna be with me or can’t see yourself talking to me then say that. Don’t keep me trynna holla at you and then you keep ignoring me like I’m one of these dead beat niggas,” Ice said.

Ice was mad that every time he tried to get closer with Kaylen she pushed him away. He was a good man trying to really show her what a real man looks like and if she didn’t want to accept it then he could fall back. Never has he waited this long for a woman. Kaylen didn’t say a word she just looked at the carpet. She honestly didn’t have anything to say to Ice. Kaylen was scared to even love again. Every time she tried to open up her heart to a man love failed her. She was scared that it was going to turn out the same way with Ice.

“So you ain’t got shit to say?” Ice asked, and Kaylen didn’t even blink.

“Stay up,” he said, getting up from the couch to leave.

After today Ice was no longer going to look in Kaylen’s direction. One thing he wasn’t going to do was beg her to be with him or force her to be with him. Ice was a cocky ass nigga and he got everything he wanted and with Kaylen it was more like a challenge but sometimes you win or you lose.

Kaylen learned how to protect her heart from these niggas. When Ice walked out on her nothing changed. She went on with her day and ate her breakfast before she had to go to her salon to meet with her contractors. Her hair salon
Kay’s Tresses
was set to open within a month. After her breakfast she went to take a shower and got dressed. Today was a pretty cold day so she wore a turtleneck with ripped denim jeans and knee length boots. She had to be at her salon within an hour because Jasmine and Mariah was going to meet up with her there as well. She drove as fast as she could to get there. She opened up her salon and waited for the contractors.

It took only ten minutes after Kaylen made it to the salon for the contactors to show up. Kaylen talked with them as they assured her that everything would be ready for the grand opening. Kaylen was on cloud nine and was ready to make her vision come true. She watched as Jasmine pulled up in her pink Maserati behind her truck.

“Wassup sis?” Kaylen said when Jasmine walked into the salon.

“Hey sis,” Jasmine said giving her a hug and a kiss on the cheek, “everything looks like it’s turning out good!”

“It is and I am so excited.”

“I am too I can’t wait for the grand opening. You know we have to talk business,” Jasmine said.

Jasmine explained to Kaylen that they could work out a promotional deal with Jasmine’s hair business line called
Luscious Hair Extensions
and Kaylen’s hair salon. They could network and make money together. Both women agreed and thought it would be nice and planned on setting that up.

“So is Ice going to be your date to the grand opening?” Jasmine asked.

She was curious to know what was the real issue behind Ice and Kaylen not being together. Ice became family to her and Jared so Ice was always over at her house spilling his heart about wanting to be with Kaylen then on the other hand she hears Kaylen repeating that she wanted to be alone for a while. It was confusing and everyone wanted to know what it was and what it was going to be.

“No why should he be?”

“You’re a trip, that man wants you badly.”

“He came over this morning and low-key went off on me in a way.”

“If I was him I would go off on your ass high-key too!” Jasmine said.

“Please break it down to me and tell me what it is that I’m not getting when it comes to Ice because it seems like everyone knows except me.”

“Ice just wants you that’s all. Come on what man do you know that is willing to wait a whole year to fuck with you?”

“Not many but that doesn’t mean his intentions are good.”

“If he is like best friends with your brothers then his intentions are good and you know better than to question Donte and Jared.”

“It’s not even about questioning it Jas I just feel like I want to stay away from the people they know. You know it looks like I get around like a hoe.”

“You’re just dating you don’t have to have sex with everyone.”

“I know I just don’t feel ready like that right now. My heart is still on crazy,” Kaylen said referring to Alonzo.

“Yeah that nigga was on some next level type of crazy.”

“That’s why I just want to be left alone.”

“Stop fucking with these lames and then you won’t have a problem. You fucking with niggas that work for your brothers at least get a boss ass nigga,” Jasmine said leaving that on Kaylen’s mind.

Jasmine and Kaylen continued to pick out patterns for the wall until Mariah arrived. Kaylen was thinking about Ice but her pride wouldn’t let her do shit. She wasn’t going to call, text, or run behind him. She was living life and was focusing on her business and if he couldn’t accept that then he could chase the next bitch.

“Are you coming early on Saturday to help set up for Jayla’s birthday party?” Jasmine asked.

“You know anything I could do for my nieces and nephews I’ll do.”

“Well Miss Jayla said she wanted her auntie Kay to do her hair and get her dressed,” Jasmine said repeating exactly what Jayla said.

“That little girl is a trip but I’ll be there.”
