Chapter 20

6 months later...

Kaylen was living the life. Her and Ice were better than great. Even though they still lived apart they were making it work. She found out great news the night before and she couldn’t wait to tell Ice when he flew in this afternoon. She knew he was going to take the news well. She took a shower before she got dressed to go to the airport to pick up Ice. As she was getting dressed she had to throw up again. She brushed her teeth and turned off the lights in the bathroom.

“Baby don’t give mommy a hard time,” Kaylen said rubbing her belly.

Lately she was feeling sick and Jasmine was the one who pushed her to take a pregnancy test. Last night she went to the drug store and brought it home. She was nervous to find out the outcome but she was happy when it read that she was pregnant. She finally had the baby that she wanted by a man she couldn’t imagine being without. Not to say that she didn’t want her and Q’s baby. She just wasn’t ready to be anyone’s mother at that time in her life.

The only person that knew about her being pregnant was Jasmine and that was because it was secret until she told Ice. After she was dressed she left her house and drove off to the airport. She hasn’t seen Ice in almost a month since he has been so busy because he had a deal with a new distributor that kept him busy but Kaylen has been busy as well. Kaylen’s Tresses was doing better than she expected. She never thought her salon would get so much positive feedback as it did. She was saving up her money to buy her a house but now that she was pregnant it was speeding up the process.

Kaylen sung along with Ginuwine. She laughed the whole entire time because it was so weird how Ice had her singing love songs. She felt so out of her element but it was because she was in love. She couldn’t hide her smile even if she wanted to. She wanted to cry actually because she has everything that she has ever wanted. She went through so much to get where she was today. She fought so hard since the day her mother has given her life.

When she pulled up to the airport she walked straight in to wait on Ice. His plane should just be landing. She sat down next to a lady and her baby. Kaylen was looking at them thinking about how it was going to be with her child. She couldn’t wait to find out the sex of the baby and how far along she was.

Since her and Ice started to have sex he has never strapped up. Kaylen didn’t care either. She knew he was bound to get her pregnant. When she seen Ice’s tall frame walking towards her she jumped up and ran towards me. It has been a month too long.

“I fucking missed you,” she said as she kissed him long and hard.

“I missed you more baby,” he kissed her back.

Ice has really missed Kaylen. She was a big part of his life so not being around her was hard on the both of them. He has been putting in work though. He was setting up his future. Ice looked at Kaylen and she looked different. Her face was very radiant and her smile seemed brighter today.

“You look beautiful baby,” Ice told her.

“Thank you babe.”

They walked to her car and drove home. She had it planned out already how she was going to tell Ice that she was pregnant. She couldn’t wait to see the look on his face. When they got home Ice was tired. He just wanted to kick back and relax. For the last month he has been pushing his body to the max. He grinded from the sun came up to when the sun went back down. He needed the break.

“Baby could you go run me a bath?” Kaylen asked him when they were sitting on the couch watching old movies.

“Alright,” Ice said getting up to go in the bathroom.

He walked in the bathroom turning on the bath water. He was going to take a bath with her too. He started to pull out his shower gel from out of the drawers but then he saw a pregnancy test sitting on the counter. He picked it up and analyzed it for a minute. Kaylen was pregnant? He raced out of the bathroom to find Kaylen but she was already standing at the door.

“Hey daddy,” she said.

“You’re fucking with me right?” he asked.

“No I’m really pregnant,” she said with tears streaming down her cheeks.

Ice pulled her into his arms trying to make her stop crying. He was happy that she was pregnant. He was getting what he wanted. They both were on the same page. The only problem was their living situation. She didn’t want to leave L.A. to move to Oakland. She couldn’t leave her nana most of all.

“I got you,” he said kissing her forehead.

Kaylen didn’t want to take another shower she wasn’t feeling well so Ice took the shower by himself instead. She laid on her bed thinking about life. All of the things she went through made her strong. She came out on top every time. Whenever she had doubts she reminded herself that she’ll overcome it within due time. This time everything felt right with Ice. It’s all falling into place like how it’s suppose to happen.

“My little baby I love you more than you could ever understand. I will never hurt you, I’m here to protect you. I can’t wait to meet you munchkin,” she rubbed her belly and talked to her baby.

She already had a bond with the baby. The love she felt for her baby was the best kind of love she experienced. She knows that her baby will always have her back. Her baby will always see her as perfect even when she doesn’t seem to think that.

Chapter 21

Kaylen had set up a really big family dinner at a restaurant to tell everyone the good news. She was excited that her family was going to be a big part of her baby’s life. She also felt a little sad that Ice’s mom wasn’t going to get the chance to know her grandchild. Ice drove them to the restaurant and he was happy with life. Kaylen being pregnant was the best news he has ever gotten. He was going to do right and marry her.

When they pulled up to the restaurant everyone was already there. They were sitting in the waiting area as the waitresses got their table ready. Everyone was talking amongst themselves but Kaylen was talking to her nana. Loraine was the light of her life. She was her mother since she raised her all of her life. There’s nothing in the world she wouldn’t do for her nana.

“Your table is ready,” one of the waitresses, said before she escorted them to their table.

After they were all seated and placed their orders they started to talk as usual. Everyone one was in attendance even Shariece. She was a mother figure to Kaylen as well and Kaylen adored her.

“Kay you know we gotta go check in to see what was on pops will right? We should go do it on his birthday,” Donte said.

“I swear to you I forgot all about that but yes we need to go.”

Jared and Donte had told her about their father’s will when they first met. She knew he left her something but she never went to find out what it was because she was going through so many things all at once. She couldn’t wait to find out what he left her.

“Well you guys we have something to share with you,” Kaylen said. She looked at Ice so he could announce the great news to everyone.

“Kaylen is pregnant,” he said and everyone’s eyes lit up.

“Congratulations,” everyone showered Kaylen and Ice with hugs and kisses.

Jared and Donte were happy for them but they needed to talk to Ice privately. Ice was family so he will always be accepted but they needed to let him know to take care of their sister. Kaylen was a grown woman and now that she was pregnant she was his responsibility now. Ice needed to make sure that he could tend to her everyday and being in two different cities he couldn’t do that.

“Aww nana why are you crying?” Kaylen asked teary eyed.

“Your mother and father would be so proud of you. I am so proud of you. Zion you’re the best thing that could have ever happened to Kaylen. I can’t wait to see the baby,” she cried.

Ice stood up and hugged Loraine. She had always treated him like family since she met him. He had his head on his shoulders and she admired that about him. She approved of their relationship.

Everyone shared a lot of love and laughter. Kaylen felt like she was living her happy ever after life but it was just beginning. She was ready for the next chapter of her life. She wasn’t even worried about Ice not living with her at the moment because she knows it’ll all work out. They’ll make any sacrifice to make sure that their baby had it all.

Chapter 22

Kaylen was able to schedule a doctor’s appointment while Ice was in town. They were on their way to her appointment. They were both excited to see their baby for the first time. When they got to the doctor’s office Kaylen checked in and they waited for her name to be called.

“How are you feeling?” Ice asked her.

“I feel fine just happy,” she smiled.

“I’m trynna rack my brain and think about what we’re gonna do.”

“I’m not even going to stress over it because something will work out.”

Ice didn’t say anything back he just looked at her. A lot was on his mind. As a man he had to do what was right for his family. He didn’t want to leave Oakland but his family was in L.A. and he couldn’t go a day longer without them. Business was going to change but it definitely wasn’t going to stop. He knew what he had to do and when he made it back to Oakland he was going to execute his plan.

He couldn’t let Kaylen deal with the pregnancy by herself. He already knew she was going to need help and the man in him couldn’t leave her by herself. Saying that he had his own family sounded good to him. He was feeling like the man.

“Kaylen Carter,” a nurse called her name from a clipboard.

They both stood up and followed her into one of the rooms. The nurse drew blood, took a urine sample, and examined Kaylen before the doctor came. She was excited for today but she was more excited about when they found out the sex of their baby. When the doctor came in she laid down and the doctor checked for the baby.

“Let’s see what we have here,” the doctor said.

“Do you see the head? This is your baby,” the doctor said pointing out the baby.

“It’s so small,” Kaylen said.

“You’re ten weeks far along so your baby is very tiny.”

Kaylen looked up to Ice and smiled when she heard how far along she was. She felt complete. Her heart fluttered thinking about her family with Ice. The days couldn’t go any faster. Happy was an understatement.

After Kaylen received her prescription for her prenatal pills they left and went home. Ice needed to meet up with Donte and Jared before he went back home. He had to start making moves on his plans. He made sure that Kaylen was settled in the house before he left. He called to see where they were but they were at Jared’s barbershop, which wasn’t far at all. When he pulled up to the barbershop he walked straight in. Ice never was checked for his weapons like everyone else because he was a boss too.

“Wassup?” Jared said when Ice walked in.

“Wassup y’all,” Ice said.

“How was the ultra sound?” Donte asked.

“It was good she’s ten weeks.”

“I still can’t believe her hardheaded ass is about to be someone’s mama,” Jared said shaking his head.

“I’ma join the team down here officially. I can’t take Kaylen away from you guys especially when she just opened up her hair salon. I’ma let Jayceon oversee everything in Oakland and I’ma pop up every other week for a minute,” Ice said getting down to business.

“You ready for Jayceon to take over?” Jared asked.

“Yeah Jayceon could handle it since he’ll still be under my instructions. I can’t leave Kaylen here by herself and keep coming back every other month.”

“I was meaning to talk to you about that but I was trynna wait and give you some time for you to figure it out yourself first but you know what you’re doing,” Donte said.

“This shit is crazy I still can’t even believe it,” Ice said rubbing his hand over his head.

“What’s the plan Ice? You know we need you to take care of our sister,” Jared said.

“You know I’ll lie my life down for her and our baby,” Ice said truly meaning it.

“Alright,” Donte said pleased with the answer.

“So many shit gotta happen so fast. We gotta move from out of her place, I need to move my stuff from out of my house to over here too. I want to her marry her,” Ice said lastly.

“You for real?” Jared asked.

“Yeah why wouldn’t I? She’s carrying my baby and she ain’t going anywhere.”

“D are you okay with that?” Jared asked.

“Yes he has my blessings what about you?”

“Yeah he has my blessings,” Jared said.

Ice knew that he had to go to her brothers and grandmother for her hand in marriage. Ice could have been the cold nigga he has always been and done what he wanted when he wanted but he was a man now with a family on the line. He tried to do everything he knew that would keep her happy. He made his mistakes with Natasha when she was pregnant with their child. He knew better now and didn’t want to put any stress on Kaylen.

“Good looking,” Ice said as they all kicked back and smoked a blunt.

Jared wanted to help Ice from not stressing so hard. He called his Real Estate Agent and had her looking for the house that Ice wanted. Ice was ready to get back to Oakland and straighten out his situation.
