This book was written as part of National Novel Writing
Month.  This year, I participated in a very special charity event for NaNoWriMo
called The Night of Writing Dangerously.  Two hundred and fifty authors
descended upon the Julia Morgan Ballroom in downtown San Francisco dressed in
our 1940s best.  Armed only with our laptops (and typewriters. Some took the
noir theme very seriously), we engaged in an evening of literary abandon,
typing to our heart’s content for six hours.  I wrote the best parts of this
book.  The write-a-thon benefited the Young Writers Program, which funds free
creative writing programs in hundreds of schools and communities around the
world. 

In order to get there, though, I needed some help.  And
that’s where these fabulous folks came in.  In alphabetical order, thank you to
Caitlin Bergendahl, Bridget Franckowiak, Robin McWilliams & Madonna
Cacciatore, Cassie Oates, Joe Purcell, Richard Van Slyke, Mary Stancavage, Ken

book, literally, would not have happened without you and there’s a bunch of
