“
We still have a wedding to attend,” Eric said. “Unless of course….” His voice trailed off as he looked at Natasha.
“
There is no unless. We are going through with this!” Natasha said giving her father a look that screamed “I will cut you.”
“
All right then. Leo, tell the priest to get ready to continue,” Eric said as the bridal party headed out.
“
You okay, baby?” Mitchell asked looking at Natasha. She smiled up at him and nodded. “For a moment there I thought you might not want to go through with it,” he said. She smiled.
“
In your dreams,” she said as she noticed Eric leaving the room. “Daddy,” she called out. “Mitch, give us a sec,” she said. Mitchell nodded and walked out, leaving the two of them in the room.
“
Anything the matter, sweetie?” Eric asked, taking a seat next to Natasha. She shook her head and took another sip of her juice.
“
I saw mom, when I was passed out,” she said looking at Eric. “Do you know what really happened to her?” Immediately she asked that, she noticed her father’s face get gloomy. He obviously knew something but didn’t want to tell her. “Daddy, please. It’s important,” she said again.
“
I never wanted you to find out,” he started as a tear rolled down his cheek. “Your mother had wanted for a long time to work in war torn areas and I told her that after you were born, she would have to choose her work or us.” He paused and took a handkerchief from his pocket then dabbed his eye with it. “She was a photojournalist. All I knew was she went to the Middle East and never came back,” he said.
“
Her workmates never said anything? No one knows where she went?” Natasha asked. Eric shook his head.
“
No, but two years after she went there a friend in the Peace Corps told me she went on assignment to some dangerous area without any escort…chasing some story and never came back. They did find some of her stuff, her camera, her scarf…but not her,” he said sadly. “No one knows this, not even your Nan,” he added looking up at Natasha. “It was a painful subject for me, so we never talked about it,” he said holding his daughter’s hand.
“
Why didn’t you tell me?” she asked. Eric shook his head.
“
I don’t know,” he said. “I probably wanted you to hang on to the hope that she would maybe come back some day…I don’t know,” he said again as Natasha leaned on his shoulder. He draped an arm around her shoulder.
“
I think she meant to come back,” she said sadly. “Somehow I know it,” she added as she pulled away from her dad. He smiled at her.
“
We can talk about this later. I am sorry I hid the truth from you for so long,” he said apologetically. She smiled.
“
You had your reasons,” she said standing up. “But right now, I need to go get married.” She took her father’s hand. He smiled up at her and nodded.
“
That you do,” he said walking her towards the door.
“
Random question, daddy. Was there a gunfight in the chapel?” she asked. Eric looked at her surprised.
“
Gunfight? In the chapel? No, why?” he asked still surprised. Natasha smiled and shrugged. She must have been out for a while.
“
No reason,” she said as her father once again walked her to the chapel.
Mitchell looked at his lovely bride walking towards him and smiled. Natasha could tell that he was not only happy but proud. The hardest part of the day was over...as well as the most scary part. The rest of the ceremony was a smooth sail. There were no people passing out. There were no gun fights and there was definitely no hallucinations. It was officially time for the first dance. Natasha smiled as Mitchell held her close. For their fist dance, Rita and Mona had decided to stick with the classics and chose Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love.” Natasha had to admit, it was a nice touch.
Though she had initially been a bit reserved with Pam, the wedding planner, she had to admit that with Rita calling the shots, she had gotten the wedding she always wanted. 150 guests, buffet reception under the moonlight, open bar…everything was simply perfect, not forgetting the fact that Rita and Mona had almost threatened to crush the TMZ cameras if they didn’t hand over the memory cards that had photos of Natasha passing out. She smiled as she leaned her head against Mitchell’s shoulder. She could not remember a day when she had been happier.
“Penny for your thoughts?” Mitchell asked as they danced. Natasha’s smile broadened as he spun her round.
“
You would have to give me an entire bank for my thoughts,” she said when she was back in his arms again. Mitchell smiled and pulled away from her again.
“
The Schmidts don’t really own a bank but I could make it happen,” he said. Natasha almost stopped dancing. He was serious!
“
Mitchell, I’m kidding!” she said resting her head on her shoulder again. He laughed.
“
I know, but maybe I was too,” he said. Natasha rolled her yes, thankful that he could not see her.
“Maybe being the keyword here,”
she thought.
“
I need to have a dance with the bride now,” they heard Eric’s voice. They turned around to find Eric and Estelle standing next to them, all smiles.
“
And I’ll have the groom,” Estelle said as Mitchell took her hand and gave her a slight bow. “What a gentleman, Where were you some 40 years ago?” she asked as they danced. Eric smiled and took his daughter’s hand.
“
Is it just me or is my grandmother flirting with my husband?” Natasha asked as she began dancing with her father. Eric laughed.
“
I think I saw it too,” he said laughing. Natasha smiled up at her father and shook her head. “You okay?” he asked looking into her eyes. She looked at him and nodded.
“
Of course. Why do you ask?” she asked.
“
Tasha, you just found out that your mother may be dead not less than six hours ago,” he said. “Anyone would be excused if they felt a bit unsettled,” he added as a cameraman approached them and began clicking away. She gave a small laugh. Eric was not sure whether the laugh was genuine or if it was for the cameraman’s benefit.
“
I cannot think about that today,” she said. “Today, I need to make sure I live this day exactly as I had always planned it,” she added with a smile. The smile suddenly faded away as she recalled her mild mishap earlier. “Well not exactly, but close,” she said quickly.
“
Yeah,” Eric said laughing lightly. “But seriously, I hope you understand that I had to do what I thought was right to protect you. You were too young,” he said looking into her eyes. She nodded.
“
I have never doubted anything you did for me, daddy,” she said in almost a whisper.
“
Okay, everyone. It’s time for the bouquet toss,” they heard Rita’s cheerful voice breaking the intensity of the moment. Natasha smiled at her father and took the bouquet from Stacy who had walked up with the flowers in her hand. Excited females gathered behind Natasha as she readied herself to throw the flowers over her head.
“
Ready?” she asked before she threw the flowers backward. She quickly turned around to see her bridesmaids scurrying around. She closed her eyes, tossed the flowers over her head and quickly turned around to watch who would catch them. She laughed when she saw Mona reaching for the bouquet with ease. After all, she towered over the rest of the women there at six feet two. Natasha gave her a smile and a wink before she turned around. She noticed Leo walking towards her with a beaming smile.
“
It’s sad that you wouldn’t consider me,” he said jokingly.
“
Leo Hayes, if only I had met you a couple of years earlier,” she said hugging him. They laughed and pulled apart.
“
You guys are about to leave and I must say that I think you have finally made an honest man out of my man Mitchell,” he said with a smile. “You take care of him. His family can be, well…bitchy,” he said after a long pause. Natasha playfully punched his arm.
“
Watch it,” she said laughing even though she knew it was true.
“
What? It’s true. I’m sure his aunts are calling you the newest gold digger,” he said in a whisper. She laughed and leaned close to him.
“
Well, if I am a gold digger then I already hit the jackpot,” she said before they both laughed. Their light moment was interrupted by Rita and Mona who were both at the PA system announcing that it was time for the couple to leave. Natasha couldn’t believe that time had flown that much. It was already eight in the evening. They would leave and their guests would be left partying till God knows what time. She gave Leo a quick hug and smiled at Mitchell who was walking towards her.
“
Time to go, Mrs. Schmidt,” he said cheerfully as he took her hand.
“
So, do I get to know where we are going for the honeymoon or do you still insist it’s a surprise?” she asked as they made their way to the limo. The limo had been tastefully decorated and as fate would have it, there was a big ‘Just Married’ sign on the rear bumper and about a dozen cans tied on to it.
“Definitely Mona,”
she thought as she looked at the décor. No one else would have even remembered to do that what, with all the drama the day had.
Mitchell smiled as they approached the vehicle. The driver, fully clad in a black tuxedo, stood there holding the door open for them.
“That’s for me to know and you to find out,” he said as he waved to the crowd. Natasha smiled and blew her family and friends a kiss as they drove away.
“
What can I do so that you can tell me?” she asked. “I do have a number of things I can do for you, you know,” she added matter of factly. Mitchell smiled and gave the driver a go ahead.
“
I know you do. But I am not about to ruin a surprise that took me six months to put together,” he said holding her hand. He leaned back on the seat and turned his head to look at her. “Don’t worry. I went the extra mile to make sure it is something that tickles your fancy,” he added with a wink.
“
I am sure it does; after all, I am traveling in a private jet to go to my honeymoon,” she said with a giggle. Mitchell laughed.
“
I would have thought you would be used to the life by now,” he said. She looked at him, surprised.
“
When you grow up middle class and for your wedding your father in law just happens to give you a mansion as a wedding gift, you don’t really get used to it,” she said matter of factly. He smiled back at her and took a long deep breath as his phone buzzed wildly in his pocket. “Why is your phone still on?” she asked, almost angry that even today of all days, he would not have afforded her the courtesy of staying away from all matters business. He smiled and showed her the phone screen.
“
Because I was expecting
this
call,” he said. Natasha squinted when she saw her father’s name on the screen. “He has just found out about the gift we gave him and your Nan,” he explained. Natasha smiled. She and Eric had gone fifty-fifty on a summer home in Princeton. Initially, Mitchell had wanted to foot the entire bill, but Natasha, being the “hard-head” she was (as Mitchell would say) would not settle for anything less than splitting the cost. The house...no, mansion, was a tastefully decorated three bedroom, complete with an outdoor pool and Jacuzzi. “Hey Eric,” he said casually as he picked up the phone. He put the phone on speaker so Natasha could be part of the conversation.
“
Hey daddy,” Natasha said beaming. Eric was gasping and sighing obviously trying to get the right words to express just what he felt.
“
Mitchell….this is too much…”
“
Oh please daddy, you and Nan deserve it,” Natasha said casually, cutting him off mid-sentence.
“
But why?” Eric asked. He seemed to be more confused at the gift than happy. Natasha laughed.
“
Because, you are the best there is,” she said. Even though Eric was quiet when she said that, she knew that he was fighting tears. Tears of pride, happiness perhaps.
“
I can never thank you two enough,” Eric said.
“
And remember you can do with it as you please. It is not a rental or anything. It is in your name,” Mitchell said excitedly. For the first time, Natasha thought she heard a hint of pride in his voice.
“
Thanks guys, I love you. Safe journey,” Eric said.
“
We love you too, daddy,” Natasha said before Mitchell hung up. She looked up at Mitchell and smiled.
“
What?” he asked.
“
You still need to tell me where you’re taking me,” she said as she moved closer to him. Mitchell closed his eyes and shook his head.
“
I already told you. I am not giving it up,” he said avoiding eye contact. There was a look she would give him that made him melt. “Stop that,” he said when she tried turning his face so that she could look into his eyes.
“
What, Mitchell, I just want to look at you,” she said in a mock baby voice.
“
Seriously, Tasha. Stop it,” he said again. This time, she was not only making the face, she had her hands inside his pants. The fact that they had not been seriously intimate for a long time except for the few minutes on the eve of the wedding had made the idea of the honeymoon more desirable than it already was. Her hands inside his pants just aroused him more. He had actually managed to keep his alcohol consumption to two glasses of champagne because he tended to get horny any time he was under the influence. “Tasha please…” he said as she began stroking him. She smiled and looked at him getting tortured.
“
Tell me what I want and I’ll stop,” she said, leaning dangerously close to him. She was so close to his neck, he could feel her hot breath on his skin. He wanted to cry out. She was tormenting him and she loved every minute of it. “Just a hint, that’s all I need,” she said as she began planting small kisses along his neck. He was literally between a rock and a hard place. He needed her to stop but at the same time, he could not tell her what he had taken so long to plan. It was just not like him to give in so easily. On the other hand, giving her this vital information would mean that she would stop doing what she was doing altogether and he didn’t want that either. He leaned forward and locked the partition before leaning back on the seat.
“
Let’s see what you got, first,” he said looking into her eyes. She smiled and straddled him. It was especially hard with her still in her gown. He looked up at her and gently wrapped his arms around her supple waist. “Come here, wifey,” he said pulling her close. He smiled as their lips met. For the first time that day, he could kiss her for however long he wanted, without the awkward feeling of people watching them or being on the clock. She pulled away slightly and looked down at him.
“
What?” he asked, wondering why she would stop now.
“
Maybe we should…” she began saying, but her words were soon cut off by a long kiss that claimed her lips. Obviously, what she had to say was not of any major importance, at least right now. She smiled and let herself loose, their lips crushing against each other. “The wedding night, Mitch,” she said in a whisper when she finally pulled away from his lips.
“
We have a whole eight hours before I get to the wedding night. I don’t think this,” he paused and softly thrust his hips upwards. “…would wait for eight hours,” he said before kissing her again. “Right now, this is what I want,” he said softly as he zipped down the her gown. She looked at him and smiled as he exposed her breasts in the sheer white bra she wore. “God you’re beautiful,” he said in a low voice, almost a whisper as he looked at her breasts. She felt herself blush a little especially when he began sliding the bra off. She looked at him as he looked back at her, slowly undoing the clasp behind her. She moaned as she felt the tightness around her chest disappear when he finally took her bra off. “You are mine,” he said in a whisper before kissing her again. Natasha smiled. She had known Mitchell to be possessive but never like this. He then pulled away and began sucking on her nipples ruthlessly. Her soft moans soon graduated to be gasps of breath as his tongue flicked over her tender nipples, testing her very edge of sensitivity She held on to his head as he sucked hard and nibbled as he went on. She wanted so much to scream. She had never known him to be this vigorous.
