It was Monday morning and we were both dressed ready to go. He was dressed in a suit ready for work, while I was dressed ready for home. I had made him breakfast, for two reason really. One, I wanted to cook for him and well two, it was his magnificent kitchen.

“So are you a Dom?” I asked as I was having my Greek yoghurt and fruits. He laughed as he was trying to eat his omelet, which was with three cheeses, jalapenos and salsa. That’s right, I went there.

“No babe, I’m not a Dom. I’m dominating yes. It’s who I am, but I’m not into the scene if that’s what you’re asking.” I kept eating my yoghurt looking at him through my hair. He let out a small sigh. “I like to play with toys and bring my girl pleasure.” He reached for my face and caressed. “Watching you cum is an exquisite thing, knowing I could bring that out of you, makes me hard just thinking about it.”

I sucked on my spoon “have you done…” He dropped his fork on his plate.

“Alexia, the thought of you with anyone else but me brings about a quiet rage inside me. I would truly want to hunt anyone down who has seen you naked, but I can’t. I understand how you feel, but baby let it go, I can’t change the past, but I desperately want us to have a future. Now do I have to fuck you until you understand that you belong only to me and that I am nothing without you?” He challenged. I made a pouty face.

“Sounds kind of nice” I smiled, trying to take in all that he said.

“What sounds nice? That I’m nothing without you? That I want a future with you in it?” He said softly. It did, I never thought that I would ever have a man say those things to me. My heart swelled as he spoke about a future with me.

“No ace, you fucking me until I understand.” I lied.

“You’re impossible.” He stood up shaking his head.

I picked up my bag and headed to the door with him.

“Why don’t you stay here?” He asked. I cupped his face and kissed his cheek. “I want to go home. I miss my place, plus I have things to do.”

He nodded not the least bit happy about it. “I’ll drop you off and come after work.”

I nodded “I’ll cook.”

I finished my Muay Thai class and did some grocery shopping. I walked home listening to Billy Idol’s Dancing with Myself. As I turned the corner bobbing my head to the chorus and thinking about making my gyoza, that’s when I was stopped dead in my tracks. I watched as a short pudgy Greek woman stood in front of my condo complex. Damn it all to hell. Why was she here? I called her to prevent this surprise pop up. I hung my shoulders and walked over to her.

“Hi ma.” I managed to say, she was shorter than me which was quite a feat. She glared.

“Don’t hi ma me!” She cried. “Where were you? I’ve been calling you since last night?” She said to me in Greek.

This was going to be painful. “I was out.” I said as nonchalantly as I could.

“Out?” She hissed as we walked up to the elevator. No point in taking the stairs, she wouldn’t want that. “Out?” She said again.

“Yes ma, out.”

Since I was a child my mother only spoke to me in Greek and would never speak to me if I spoke in English. She insisted that I needed to know our language and customs. Which to tell you the truth I loved more than she did. If she thought hanging out with the Greek kids was going to somehow make me more Greek she was totally delusional. The Greek kids she wanted me to hang out with would only party and get drunk. It wasn’t wrong, but wasn’t my scene.

“I called you sister and she didn’t know where you were.” She continued her fifty question assault. I only needed to dodge another forty seven questions.

The main reason I rarely said anything to my poor sister, is that she would constantly gets caught in the middle of our fights.

“Greek girls don’t do the things you do. They live at home until they are married to good Greek boys.” She lectured me constantly until it drove me out of the house.

“Yes but the Greek boys I brought home weren’t good enough.” I replied trying to derail the inevitable confidence detonation I was about to receive.

She sucked in air. “You never brought home one, and if you did I would be so angry at you.”

I laughed “So how was I going to meet one?” I knew the answer but I love goading her.

“We would have chosen one for you! You could have had two babies right now!” She exclaimed. “At you age, I was married for ten years and had two beautiful children, a house and a business. You? What do you have? Nothing!”

That there ladies and gents was called the Greek mom special, rapid fire comments that should render you useless. I thankfully have had training and could now laugh it off with my comment proof humor. “I have my Mini!” I smiled

“You’re crazy!” She shook her head. I was assuming I’d be ordering out tonight if she didn’t leave early.

I opened the door to the condo. “It’s dirty!” She commented. It wasn’t, but it’s a subconscious thing Greek moms do so that you develop an innate need to clean. The guilt seeped in. I felt that my place was out of sorts, even though it wasn’t. I needed to clean now. I headed to the patio door and opened it to let in some fresh air and began to tidy up.

“Your father will pick me up later after he comes back from the Greek club house. Unless you want to be a good girl and drive me home and spend some time with us. We are your parents and you don’t even love us.” Right for the kisser.

“Ma I love you, I just can’t be with you all the time. I was there last week and called you too. You have to say it’s better than before.” Before I wouldn’t even bother, it got so bad between us, that I had a hard time dealing with her demands.

“Better but not enough.” She wagged her finger at me. I loved the lady, I got my sense of humor from her, but I got my father’s love of being alone too, which drove her crazy. She thought at one point I had developed xenophobia. I laughed for a good week at her expense. I turned to make her a Greek coffee after I put on the music she liked.

“Shit.” I murmured under my breath.

“What?” she called out. My kitchen, it was different. The cabinets were upgraded and the stove was the one I dreamed of. Words failed me. I dug into my tote bag and took out my Iphone. I had two texts. One was from Lukas, the other was Roxi.

i owed u one babe, hope u like it

Don’t be mad the man called me desperate to make u happy, i gave him my key. Kaci gave him ur sizes. Luv u ;-)

“What is wrong with you?” My mom came over to where I stood, there was no way I was going to say anything about Lukas to her. I’m going to kiss both girls the next time I saw them, that’s for sure.

“Kala, are you going to make me the coffee or stand here looking at your kitchen!” Thank god, she hadn’t noticed and if she had she would only glaze over it. If it wasn’t about a Greek boy and Greek babies, I was pretty much safe. I started her coffee and fired a text to Roxi,

i cant believe u let him do this
?

Two minutes later.

Didnt have a choice bella, he insisted and i wasnt going to say no, the guy busted up ur kitchen. Does it look nice @ least?

I took a pic and sent it to her.

That right there is blow job material. u better fuck his brains out

Kaci was next

r u crazy giving him my sizes?

Shut up like u didn’t like what he got u. Gave Roxi and me card blanche with his personal assistant and bought u the clothes u’ve been bitching about getting. Now shut up and get me some clothes too!!!!

I laughed as I poured my mom’s coffee into the cup she bought herself for me to keep. “Are you finished with the phone or are your friends more important than me?” She hissed. I had to weigh my options when she said that.

I tore myself away from the beautiful kitchen and had to sit with my mom, trying to act causal, when right now I was up the wall excited about this gorgeous gift Lukas had given me. How was I going to ever repay him for this? The man spent more on me the last few days than I make in a year.

“Are you listening?” My mom’s question knocked me out of my thoughts. “I said I invited someone over for dinner tomorrow. He’s a good man from a good family, he just came from Greece. They have money and properties. He’s from the same island as your father.” She smiled as though she was somehow picturing her grandkids already. “He wants to move back to Greece soon, but wanted to come and see his family here.”

I let my head hit the back of the couch. “Ma, I’m not interested!” I barked.

“Why? Do you have something more important to do?” She began to yell at me.

“No I just want to choose the man I want!” I bitched back.

“The men you want do not exist. They live only in your books!” She pointed at my overstocked bookshelves. “Do you think I loved your father when we first met?” Ah, here we go again.

“I know ma, I know, love comes after years of going through troubles. I get it already.” I exasperated.

“You are a stupid girl!” She continued. So I guess it will be takeout tonight. What should I order? I was going through the menu choices as she berated me with the stupid choices I made for myself, making me end up alone and lonely in her eyes. I was so far gone in my mind, a defense mechanism that I picked up, that I hadn’t notice she stopped talking.

“Alexia?” His voice threw me for a loop. I jolted out of my daze and stared at Lukas standing in my living room. I turned to see my mother’s mouth slightly opened making a small o. Lukas bowed a little and extended his hand. “I’m Lukas Blakk.” He said flashing his million dollar smile, not knowing that it didn’t work with Greek moms.

He sat himself down in the cushy armchair after my mom ignored his hand. He was flanked by both of us just staring at me.

“Did I come at a bad time?” He asked me.

“No, it’s ok.” I whispered back.

“Ma, this is Lukas.” I smiled. Her eyes told me she would make sure she knew how she felt afterwards.

“Alexia…” she said in a loud Greek voice “I do not like him. You will come tomorrow night to the house and meet Manoli.” She reached for her coffee and ignored his presence completely.

“What’s a Manoli?” Lukas asked. Obviously picking up the most appropriate word out of my mother’s Greek.

She turned to him in her broken English. “He is a boy I want her to meet, to marry. Understand?”

Lukas smiled unbuttoning his suit jacket and leaned forward so that his elbows rested on his knees. “Not going to happen.” He said calmly looking straight at my mother, still smiling I may add.

“What?” She cried.

“Alexia and I started dating and I’m very interested in your daughter and I would like it if you stop setting her up with idiots that will never understand her.” Holy shit, was he being serious?

“She is my daughter and I look out for her happiness!” My mother retorted.

“Yes, you’re her mother, but I’m her lover and I know what she needs and wants. And what she doesn’t want is for you to tell her who she can or cannot marry.”

I stood up after his comment to my mother. “Lukas I can handle this.” I walked over to the kitchen and my mother followed

“What are you doing?” She screamed in Greek.

“What I have always been doing.” I said to her calmly, not trying to make this worse.

“You are the most selfish child. We gave you everything and you still disobey us, when will your rebellion stop?” I couldn’t stop the tears from coming. Fuck! I pinched my eyes closed. I knew I was a selfish person, she told me every day. She loved me and only wanted what she thought would bring me happiness, never did she think that what she wanted was nothing that I dreamed of.

“I love you, but you need to stop this now.” I sobbed quietly. She stood not two feet away from me with an incredulous look on her face. She did not take any of this well.

“If you loved me, you would do as I say.” She had opened up her repertoire and taken out the emergency comments. I wiped the tears away.

“I do love you, as I get older I love you more, your wisdom, your hard work ethic, even your humor. But at one point I need to love me more.” She shook her head in disapproval. “You always have.”

She then pointed at Lukas “and him? Who is he?” I didn’t bother looking at him.

“We’re dating.” I said in Greek.

“Dating? Will he marry you?” I just starting seeing him, it was too soon to tell where all this was going, but she didn’t bother to wait for my reply.

“Will you marry my daughter?” She asked him.

“MA!” I screamed. Lukas stood from his seat and walked over to where my mother was.

“I plan to.” He reassured her, she gave him her most questionable eyes.

“I do not trust you.” She walked by him and picked up her purse, “I expect you there tomorrow night.” She said in English making sure he would understand as she stormed out.

I wiped whatever tears I had left. Lukas waited for me to say something.

“I like the kitchen.” I gave him a fake smile.

He gave me a ghost smile. “I like your mother. I see where you get your temper from.” I laughed a little.

“When you speak Greek its really sexy.” He added trying to make light of the situation.

“Thanks, I guess.” I said as I picked up the grocery bags I left on the floor near the door and planted them onto my new refurbished counter.

“You’re not going tomorrow night?” He demanded.

“She’s expecting me too.” I said as I took out the gyoza wraps from the bag.

“Are you going?” He hissed.

“If by going, you’re saying I want to see this man, then no, but if I’m going, it’s to save face for my parents… I might.” I said it so low, I hope to god he didn’t hear it. “Then I’ll go too.”

I took out the cutting board and started to clean the Napa cabbage. “Lukas it’s all too soon, don’t you think?” I put the cabbage down.

“What I’m trying to say is trust me to handle this. Greek families see things differently and I don’t want to complicate things with us. I want it to be just you and me, just like you said. Please!” I was begging him to understand me, to just let this one go. I was just too tired to fight with him again. I wanted one night where it could just be him and me on the patio enjoying ourselves, no fights, not arguments, no nothing. I was willing him. My tears were just hovering, promising to fall. “Please” I sobbed.
