Something like a little tinkling sound caught her attention. It sounded like marbles rolling across hardwood. She looked over his shoulder and didn’t see anything as he started to enter her and then she woke up. Someone was throwing pebbles at her window in rapid succession. It wasn’t marbles it was rocks. She apprehensively moved to the window. In between her legs was still throbbing from the dream. It was him; the vampire was outside of their house. This broke so many rules. How did he know where she lived?
When she opened the window he flew up to it, causing her heart to skip a beat. He was so fast and beautiful in the moonlight. She tried not to think about the dream.
“What the hell are you doing at my house?” she whispered as he floated in front of her.
“I need you to take this out of me, I can’t eat.” He pouted, the vampire was actually pouting. She tried not to imagine sucking that pouty lip into her mouth.
“No, you know as well as I do you can’t feed on humans. You didn’t answer my question. How do you know where I live?”
“Come on take it out, I know you can.”
“I’m not taking that out,” she leaned out the window into his face. “You can’t make me.”
He lunged forward and took her mouth before she could stop him. The kiss was quick but it shot electric sparks through her body and back up again. It was the most stimulating kiss she’d ever gotten, but she backed away from him and scowled.
“Sorry little girl, I just thought you needed that. You will take this out of me. I will find a way to make you.” The way he looked at her like she was a snack for devouring both terrified and excited her.
“I won’t do it, vampire.”
“Asher, my name is Asher. I prefer it.”
“I prefer Rita instead of little girl,” she said crossing her arms in front of her.
“Fair enough, Rita, do you want me to kiss you again?”
She did, she couldn’t help how bad she wanted him. He was so appealing and she hated herself for it. She’d just met him, he was a vampire, she didn’t even like him, yet she wanted him to fuck her so badly she could barely stand up straight.
“No.” She closed the window and rushed to her bed to throw the covers over her head. At least he couldn’t come in because there was no way she’d stop him if he tried to take her.
Chapter Three
Asher glared at the shifter across the table from him. “Just tell me where she lives Roger, I don’t need the runaround.”
“You’ll owe me a favor,” he said, “your services, completely free.”
“Fine, just tell me where she lives.”
The shifter finally gave him the address to where the little hunter stayed. He’d decided he was going to get her to remove the tag. She’d looked at him with lust in the cemetery; he could use that to his advantage. He’d owe the mutt named Roger, but it’d be worth it. Maybe the little hunter would let him see under her leather. A smile spread across his face as he made his way from the bar and to her house.
She wouldn’t be happy to see him, but she would take the tag out. He simply had to reason with her. Now, as he floated outside her window, kiss still hot on his lips he was more intrigued than angry. He couldn’t get it out himself and she knew that. Slowly, he floated back down to the ground and thought of a new strategy. Maybe he should take his shirt off and let her melt from the sheer beauty. He was picturing this and how she would get completely flustered when he floated back up so he didn’t hear the person sneaking up behind him until it was too late.
Something hit him in the head hard and the grass came rushing at him before it all faded away. When he came to, he was tied to a chair in the basement without a shirt on and the chains bit into his skin. For a moment, he thought perhaps the little hunter had done it because she wanted to see him with his shirt off, but the woman who walked out in front of him was not Rita at all. She was the complete opposite of her in every way.
“So, my sister has been hurt by your kind before. I know you manipulated her up there. It needs to stop. I will kill you.”
“Hunter, I didn’t do anything to your sister, she wants me without any manipulation. She tagged me before I showed up to your little house. Where is my shirt?”
“I took it on purpose. You need to feel vulnerable before I start torturing you.”
“Oh, you're going to torture me are you? Let me ask you something, do you get off on it? Is controlling a big bad vampire your idea of a good time?”
"Shut the fuck up, Asher. I know who you are. I have my ear to the ground. The great intimidator. You don't look like the intimidator now."
Asher looked around the room seeing a flame in the corner with a metal pole in it. He was pretty sure that was what he'd soon be feeling. That was going to suck a lot. This woman was clearly nuts or damaged from some past relationship that she took out on men. He decided to try that approach.
“Baby, who wronged you? What little dicked man ended up with a chick he met in a bar? What selfish asshole started sleeping with your best friend?”
He’d angered her. She moved forward and slapped him as hard as she could before she dug her fingernail into his cheek. It hurt, but it wasn’t unbearable so he smiled at her, earning another hard slap and then she punched him as hard as she could in the jaw. He groaned and realized he’d struck a nerve. The nerve was tempting to jump on, but the thought of the iron rod burning his beautiful skin held him back.
“Listen vampy, you’re going to burn slow and painful for a bit until I kill you.”
“Where are we? The basement? This feels like a basement to me. I love what you’ve done with the place.”
“Shut up, don’t you ever stop talking?” She moved over to the rod and pulled it from the flame.
He could now see was some sort of portable stove. He had the feeling she’d done this before and it made him a little nervous. Most of the time, hunters wouldn’t kill a vampire unless they were trying to harm them, but she seemed a bit unbalanced, so he thought she might.
The second the heated metal touched his skin, it came alive with pain. It was miserable and he couldn’t help but let out a loud scream. She laughed gleefully. It was strange to see a girl with long blonde hair, a pink sweatsuit, and bright pink lipstick laughing at his pain.
“Greta!” A male voice made its way down the stairs towards him and she moved the rod back to the fire.
“You keep your mouth shut.” She said to him pointing a very serious finger.
“Help,” he yelled grinning at her. “Please help me, sir!”
The man came down the stairs and stopped, looking between Asher and the blonde masochist.
“Dad, I’m handling this man. He was going after Rita. I saw him at her window.”
The man’s anger flared to life and he walked forward.
“Is that true?”
“Get out, the both of you.” Rita yelled from the top of the stairs. “I tagged him and he’s mine, so you two need to leave him alone.”
Asher was relieved she had saved him from the crazy blonde, but also a little worried what she would do with him.
“Honey, Greta, get away from Rita’s catch. This is what we wanted for her, let her deal with it.” Another female voice floated down the stairs and Asher decided she had to be the mother. The demon they’d called Greta stomped up the stairs and stopped to glare at her sister.
“Don’t screw him, Rita, you remember what happened the last time you did a vampire.”
Rita’s fist clenched and she was clearly going to deck the girl, which Asher couldn’t wait to see, but the father stepped in and pushed Greta up the stairs. “Goodnight, honey, have fun with the vampire.”
Rita walked down the stairs and stood in front of him, her nightgown clinging to her curves and he fought the urge to lick his lips.
“What the hell happened? Why are you down here?”
“I hit the ground and your sister clubbed me. Are you thinking about our amazing chemistry or how much you want to kiss me again?”
“You know I’m supposed to be pumping you for information.”
Rita was flustered; he liked it.
“You can pump me for anything you want. I will tell you whatever you want to know, if you’ll just put that gorgeous body against me.”
He was teasing her, but he realized he really wouldn’t mind if she did put her body against his. It would be better than most of the women he’d had lately.
“Stop it. I don’t know what your game is but if you are attempting to seduce me into untagging you, it’s not going to happen. Let me think for a little bit.”

Rita couldn’t concentrate because Asher wasn’t wearing a shirt and that made her angry. He was trying to take her off her game, reminding her of the kiss, but she wouldn’t let him. She had to get him out of the basement. Greta had a perverse way of getting off on torture. She would have tried to screw him had she not been interrupted. It wouldn’t have been pleasant for Asher.
Mom and Dad didn’t know about her strange little sexual obsession, but Rita had walked in on it more times than she wanted to admit.
“My sister almost had your dick you know. She gets off on that shit.”
“I knew she did! I could tell. What a little freak.”
“Oh, so you’re intrigued by that, are you?”
“Why, are you jealous?” Asher winked and wiggled uncomfortably in the chair.
Rita wanted to unchain him and touch him more than anything. It’d been awhile since she’d dated or even kissed anyone and he really excited her. But he was a vampire and she was supposed to kill him by nature, so she had to figure out how to get him out of the house.
“I am not jealous and I can’t wait to get you the hell out of here.” She walked over and started removing the chains trying to ignore the fact that her hands kept brushing against his bare skin. Once she’d unchained him, he grabbed her arm and pulled her close.
“Untag me, Rita, I’m going to starve to death.”
She jerked away from him.
“I know that’s not true. You can get blood.”
“Tasting the blood of an animal is like eating a flank steak when you’re used to filet mignon.”
“I like flank steak,” she said quietly.
“I could trance you into kissing me, you know,” he said and she started.
She hadn’t even thought about him trying to manipulate her thoughts. “You can’t with the tag.”
He jumped up and moved quickly before she could stop him. There were tools that could remove the tag and he knew exactly where to go. They would allow him to dig beneath his skin and it would suck the tag to it like a magnet. She watched as he did just that, removing the tag and becoming a lot more dangerous. He moved back to her quickly and put one hand around her throat pushing her back to the wall. She could almost grab Greta’s hot stick, but he pinned her to the wall with his body. Every part of him was touching every part of her. His mouth was dangerously close to hers and he was breathing heavily.
“I’m not someone who likes to be controlled, love. The sooner you realize that, the better off this relationship will be.”
She tried to wiggle free from his grasp but he tightened his grip on her throat. “There is no relationship between us.”
“I’m leaving, last chance for you to take me in your parent’s basement. How sexy would that be, eh?”
She slapped him and he grabbed both her arms putting them above her head and leaning in to breathe in her ear. It was exciting and scary because she couldn’t move. Suddenly, his body convulsed and he yelled as he went to the floor. She looked around him to see that Greta had tased him and was laughing maniacally on the stair well. When Rita raised her eyebrows at her, Greta just shrugged and threw down the taser, exiting the basement as quickly as she came. Her sister either saved her or was listening to everything and had gotten jealous. It was really hard to tell which was going on. She bent down to see if he was conscious.
She slapped his cheek. “Asher, Asher, get up. Stop screwing around.”
He groaned and shook his head looking up at her. “I’m not screwing around, I just got electrocuted, Rita, it doesn’t necessarily make it easy to stand.”
“Yeah, she got you good, that’s what you should think of next time you try to touch me.” Rita got up from the floor and walked over to the stairs trying to determine if Greta was still listening.
Asher came up behind her and she felt his breath on her neck. “It would be worth still trying.”
“Okay, you have to get out of my house, go. I'm supposed to keep you here, but I have no desire to get deep into this hunter thing. I’m a paralegal and I have to be at work in the morning.”
With that, she walked up the stairs and left the door open. Her plan was to go into her room and wait for him to walk out the front door.
He didn’t for a long time and she found herself wondering if maybe he went to her sister’s room, but finally, she saw him come out onto the lawn and wave at her like a smart ass as he left. She was angry with herself for allowing her weird lustful feelings to get in the way of her common sense. It was simply a horrible idea to think of the vampire as anything but that, a vampire who would kill her when he got the chance. She lay in bed and tossed and turned for an hour.
Finally, she decided she needed to do something to relax and went back down into the basement. She took her large sword off the wall. It had been passed down to her by her grandmother who’d used it to cut a lot of vampires heads off. As she started to practice her fighting, swinging the sword around and imagining an opponent good with sword play, she saw Victor’s face.
Every time she practiced fighting or martial arts, he would pop up. She let the memory come into her mind because it was going to help her with her fighting practice, and help her make the decision to only focus on her normal un-extraordinary job instead of hunting again. There was no reason for her to start to hunt again and bring back in the negative energy that surrounded it all. Victor had been a sweet man, she was eighteen and still learning about the world.
At that point in her life, she’d not thought anything about there being evil in the world, she’d wanted to find out more about him from the moment she met him. She didn't realize he’d been stalking their family for months and that he wasn’t one of the good guys. He was attractive and played music at the local bar. He could have any woman in the world he’d wanted, and he’d chosen her.
It was late after a hunt. They’d tagged about four separate vampires. She’d snuck right out of the house, after everyone was asleep, to see him. She was sucked in by his eyes and his essence. There was nothing she could do to get away from him, she thought she was completely in love. Vampires can manipulate the brain if you look into their eyes; they can make you feel safe when you aren’t and lust when it’s not there. Rita knew all of that, and she didn’t think for one minute that was what was happening between her and Victor. They hadn’t lived in the town they were in for a long time. It was before the council had really taken notice of her parent’s work and put them in the hot spot that was Manchester, Wisconsin.
She’d waited outside the bar after his set, having not been able to drink, but the owner didn’t care if she listened to the band and sat inside. He had pointed at her as he signed napkins for a bunch of girls and gestured for her to wait for him.
“It’s a beautiful night, little girl, why don’t you spend some time with me.”
Rita heard his voice and it was like her whole body turned liquid. Heat spread throughout her body and his voice did things to her that her high school boyfriends couldn’t do to her with their fingers.
