wo months have gone by
, and things couldn’t be better. Charlotte and I are on our way to celebrate my new job with Brian and his girlfriend Courtney. I’m looking forward to hanging out with everybody, but most importantly, I’m excited to have Charlotte on my arm.

I look over to catch a glimpse of my girl looking out the window. She looks serene and absolutely fucking gorgeous.

“What’s on your mind, pretty girl?” I can’t wipe the stupid smile off my face.

She looks over at me with a small smile of her own. “Just thinking.”

“About?”

“Life. This. Us. You know everything.”

I smirk. “No, Yoda.” I shake my head. “I guess I don’t know what everything entails. Enlighten me oh wise one.”

She’s laughing now. “With your new job it has me thinking about…our future.” Her timid look has me hiding my smile.

“Well, there’s definitely a lot going on up there.”

She smacks my arm. “Bryce, don’t make fun of me. I’m serious.”

I take my right hand off of the steering wheel and raise it in surrender. “Okay. Okay. I’ll stop.”

“I’m only curious as to where you see this going. We’ve talked about being together, but not really what that means.”

I contemplate her words. I’ve never understood why women want to discuss everything to the very last detail. Why can’t we just let life happen? At one time, I would have been annoyed by this conversation, but with Charlotte, it really doesn’t bother me. In fact, I knew this was coming, and I’ve honestly been excited about it.

“First, we move in together. I vote your place because mine sucks.” She giggles.

“You don’t even live here anymore and you already have stuff at my place.” I bring my hand to my chin and scratch as if in deep thought.

“How about in a few more months once I get Brian talked into the New York branch, we start talking engagement rings.”

“I don’t want to stay in New York. I really like Cold Spring. I’ve been waiting to tell you, but I applied at a couple schools in the area, and I have a few interviews lined up for next year.” My head snaps to hers. “Are you serious, baby?”

Her eyes light up when she hears the excitement in my voice, and she nods her head yes. I’m elated. I love Cold Spring. I didn’t want to go back to the city. It’s not a place to raise a family, and I definitely want a family with Charlotte.

I grab her hand, bringing it to my lips to kiss her fingers. We share a smile then our eyes go their separate ways. Mine to concentrate on the road, and Charlotte’s to beam out the window. I glance her direction one more time and tingles run through my body. She is more than I could have ever asked for. Soon I will make her my wife, and one day we will have beautiful mini-Charlottes.

My life could have gone a very different path, but I called Carl Turner that next day after promising Brian. When I gave him my side of the story he concluded that I was unaware that my friend had the cocaine in the car and was therefore not responsible. That’s the truth, I didn’t know it was in there. Carl had the crime lab finger print the bag and they found that my prints were not on it. I gave my story of who was in the car, they ran his prints and I pleaded out, because apparently the other guy was wanted for trafficking. My sentence was reduced to a misdemeanor, disorderly conduct. I had to pay my fines and do 20 hours of community service.

I look back over at Charlotte. A smile graces her lips.

“What are you looking at?” She says, a smile in her voice.

“You. Only you.” She blushes.

“You should be watching the road Mr. Decker. I’d like to see your brother and Courtney. You know how much I adore them.” It’s my turn to smile.

They love her too. The fact she gets along so well with my brother makes my heart swell. She’s everything I’ve always wanted. Yes, my life could have gone way south, but that one day in that one courthouse changed everything, and I thank the man upstairs every fucking day for bringing her to me.
