“Luke. Wake up.”

The voice was urgent but muddled. Luke groaned as he moved, a pain shooting up the back of his neck. Roaring, he pushed away any understanding. The asshole could wait.

“Luke!”

“What?”

“Luke, I think you need to wake up.”

Sniffing, Luke lifted his head, blinking several times. A shimmer of bright white light forced him to clench his eyes shut once again. He tried to figure out who was shaking him and where he was. Then he remembered. “Doctor I…” When he snapped his head up he gasped and jerked backwards.

“My God. You were right to run the tests again. I think our girl just needed some time to heal.”

The elated sound of Doctor Taylor’s voice was almost too much. Luke blinked again, fighting the tears. There was no way he was seeing her, his beloved. None. “Jessie?”

“Take a look,” the doctor encouraged.

Luke was shivering as he twisted his head, his eyes settling on her face, her eyes. “Jessie…I…” Stunned, he remained unmoving for a few seconds until her eyes, her beautiful eyes blinked.

Jessie nodded slowly and opened her mouth.

“No! Don’t speak. Don’t use your energy.” Luke rushed to her side, grabbing her now very warm hand.

“It’s okay, Luke. From what we can tell her vitals are good. Without question she requires her rest, but I honestly think she needs your love and support more. Still, just go easy on her.” Doctor Taylor patted Luke on the shoulder and laughed. “I told you I didn’t know it all. She’s a fighter and I have to believe only because of your love and support. Well done.”

Luke bit back a moan as he glanced up at the doctor. “I knew.”

“Faith my boy. You had faith where others might not have. I’ll be back to check on your both in about thirty minutes. That’s all you get tonight. Deal?”

“He…doesn’t…follow rules, doctor,” Jessie whispered, her voice cracking.

Bursting into laughter, Luke pulled her hand to his lips. “You’re right. You’re the one who’s supposed to follow the rules. I guess we need to have a clear discussion, huh?”

My Sir. You’re my wonderful Sir
. Jessie sighed as a shiver trickled down her spine. The words were perfect, as if she was meant to say think, live the life of a submissive to a man she adored.

“What are you thinking?” Luke asked as he eased back against the railing.

“I heart your phone call. Seems Trevone is bringing you additional clients, a few of his fellow players?” Jessie smiled. Everything seemed to be coming together. For some reason a trickle of fear had remained buried in her belly, one she hadn’t been able to explain. She rubbed her tummy and breathed in the air. Everything was going to be all right.

He nodded. “Yeah. Seems treating people right has a lasting effect on them. Nice kid. He has a hell of a lot going for him.”

“Well you are the best in the business, my Sir.”

“I love hearing those words.” Grinning, he winked. “I certainly try and be.”

“You don’t have to try. You just are.” Easing her index finger down the side of her neck to the swell of her breasts, she gave him a mischievous and very heated look.

“Hmmm… I can tell my submissive has something on her mind today,” Luke stated as he raised his eyebrow. Moving closer he touched her face, tracing a circle around her mouth then moving both hands to adjust her dress.

“Stop fidgeting and worrying,” Jessie gave Luke ‘the’ look, the very one she’d been giving him a hell of a lot lately. His doting had been wonderful, but she was more than ready for simply a wonderful time with her Dom.
Her Dom.
Wow, the words were chilling.

Luke huffed as he wrapped his arms around her, nuzzling into her neck. “You do realize that I
am
your owner and as such I get to not only make the rules as well as enforce them, but I also have the ability to be the gentle sadist if I want to be.”

“Gentle sadist?” She couldn’t help but laugh. In the last three weeks they’d grown so much closer, enough so she’d been able to have a sit down with her family, telling them in no uncertain terms Luke was going to be in her life. She’d also been able to completely let go, giving the last of her power in a sense to Luke. The power exchange was amazing and yes, still terrifying. She’d never been at such a peaceful place. While he had only mentioned Suzzana once after she’d awoken from the coma, she’d heard every word he’d said. She knew how Suzzana had died and she knew about the asthma attack Bart had brought on that fateful night, the very reason Suzzana had succumbed to her death. Both men would never have known and given their attitudes toward each other, realizing the horrific tragedy simply continued to follow them.

Thinking about Bart now was interesting. He’d actually given her a gift, one of realizing what she shared with Luke. Sadly, the man might be lost to his own sadness. No one had heard from him in two solid weeks. There was forgiveness needed.

“You heard me. Sounds like someone needs a reminder of her place.”

“Who me?” Jessie couldn’t help but give him a lurid smile. There was no way to describe how much she enjoyed the change in Luke, the way he’d finally been able to let go of the demons chaining him so completely. A waft of air pushed past her face, a whisper of the same words she’d been hearing for months. Suzzana was guiding her with Luke, allowing a shift in knowledge. And for the very first time Jessie understood. Luke would forever be complicated, have needs. There would always be secrets held tightly to his chest, encompassing his very soul. But what Jessie knew in her heart was that she’d spend every day of the rest of her life unlocking the ugly black box, allowing him freedom.

“You know you need a whipping,” Luke stated.

“Um… No sir.”

“You mean yes, sir.” Pushing her over the railing he lifted her dress, rubbing his hands across her ass. “You very much need s spanking.”

“Here?” Even in paradise there were eyes, but she certainly didn’t care if anyone saw the fact Luke was her Dom. After all, she was a collared woman. She smiled as he kicked her legs apart and placed his hand on the small of her back. Luke Brennan had embraced the role of becoming her Sir, the only man she would ever be with for the rest of her life.

“Here and now. Period.”

Crack! Slap! Pop!

Every part of her tingled as he slapped her ass with his open hand. He’d been far too gentle with her lately – at least in her opinion. “Oh!”

“You need days of discipline,” Luke growled as he spanked her hard, his hand moving back and forth from one cheek to the other.

Jesus Christ he wasn’t kidding.

Slap! Pop! Crack!

“Fuck!”

“No cussing!”

Whimpering, she gazed out at the ocean and smiled. This was exactly where she was supposed to be.

When he was finished he gathered Jessie into his arms, pulling her against his chest. “You’re amazing to me, but very willful.”

“You know I’ll always be willful.” The light breeze was enough to give her shivers. “And in truth I think you love me this way.” Wiggling, the feel of warmth on her ass couldn’t match the intense feelings in her heart. She’d never felt so close to him.

Issuing a deep chuckle, he pulled her arms behind her as he pushed them both against the railing. “You have no idea.”

Exhaling, she knew he was still struggling with his fears, something she couldn’t take away. “Have you talked with Bart?”

Luke bristled. “Not a topic to discuss.”

“He cares about you.”

“Whatever.”

Pushing him back she turned around and slipped her arms around his neck. “He’s a part of you.”

“He’s nothing to me,” Luke insisted.

Rising onto her tiptoes she brushed her lips across his, the kiss nothing but a whispered reminder of their connection. When she moved back toward the railing she rubbed her thumb across his mouth. “I have something to show you.”

“Hmmm. You do?”

“Yes, but you have to keep an open mind.”

Luke growled. “All right.”

She shook her head as she playfully pushed against his chest and walked toward their hotel room. As she moved inside, grabbing the folder she’d carefully protected during their journey to St. Martin, she shuddered as she stole a glance. The picture was beautiful, amazing in fact, but only Luke’s reaction mattered. Swallowing hard, she garnered her courage and moved back to the balcony. “I have something and from what I understand, the sales are already going through the roof.”

“Sales?”

“The Edge. The premier edition went out two days ago.”

Luke clucked his jaw. “That.”

“Bart signed over his rights. This magazine is partially yours so you have a vested interest.” Jessie moved forward, her eyes never leaving his. “Look. Just look.”

“What am I going to see?”

She looked toward the ocean, warmth filling her belly. “The past giving way to a beautiful future.” Turning her head she walked closer, pushing the file out. “If you’ll allow the past, the pain, the horrors to go away.”

“I…” Luke looked down.

“Suzzana is ready for you to let her go. You’ve paid your penance to her and she forgives you. She told me during my sleep that she approved.” The words she hadn’t ever meant to tell him, the vision had been so profound, but when then erupted from her lips she was grateful.

“She…she spoke to you?”

Jessie nodded. “Yes. She will forever love you.” Pushing the folder further into his hand she smiled in encouragement.

He took the folder and sighed, opening the flap. His eyes grew wide.

The picture she had already embraced was beautiful, the caption perfect for the magazine. She knew without a doubt he would hate it, hate the fact the glossy black and white with a splash of her fiery red dress was the only color. She knew he’d loathe the fact he didn’t approve of the fact Bart was in the picture, would be the front man for their BDSM campaign. This was a risk, but one that she had to take for both of them. Luke had to forgive Bart. He had to. “Three million copies sold in the first day.” His face, her Sir’s face held no expression. None. “I know this should have been your decision, but I admit I told Zaphne to go with it. I did and you might be pissed at me but I made a business decision.”

“Yes, you did and against my judgment.”

“Yeah. I…” Jessie shivered.

“You’re beautiful, just beautiful. I don’t like the guy but…” he whispered as he rubbed his index finger back and forth across the picture.

“You approve?”

“Hmmm. Let me hold my thoughts.”

“Fair enough but you should know Bart was instrumental in this and I think in the entire campaign.” She saw the look in his eyes and groaned.

“He did very well in his selection of you.”

Jesus of her – Bart knew what he was doing. Jessie moved closer.
Encourage him.
“Then call him. There can be no more animosity, no more surprises. You bought him out. That was your choice.”

“That was his choice,” Luke countered.

“All tight. I wish that hadn’t happened but okay. Call him. He needs to hear from you that you approve. And that everything is all right. And the two of you need to let this go.”

Luke glanced at her and shook his head. “Since when did you get so smart?”

“Since I fell in love with a stubborn man, one who refuses to take direction or let anything go.”

“You mean the one who doesn’t like surprises?” Easing the folder down on the table he gave her a heated look.

“Him too. That man who can’t follow any rules.”

Taking a single finger he eased the tip around her mouth and down her neck. “You’re right. I hate surprises but in not following the rules I do tend to get what I want.”

“Meaning?”

Luke kissed her passionately then laughed. “Meaning you seem to have quite a bit of influence over me.” He nodded and handed her back the file.

“Are you going to call him, mend the fences?”

His eyes twinkling he tilted his chin. “I’ll call him but you need to know something.”

“Okay.”

“Okay?”

“I mean yes sir.” Jessie tingled.

“Better. We’ll be working on your latent obedience issues.” Luke smiled and slipped his finger under her chin. “I don’t like surprises but I have one for you and for our boy child growing in your belly.”

“Our boy child huh?”

“Uh-huh.” Luke kissed her nose. “I already approved the pictures for this cover as well as the next two installments, the next one including Trevone as the centerpiece. Seems he has a penchant for BDSM. And you happen to be on the cover of all three. That is if I can keep you in line.”

“Wow.” Jessie couldn’t help but giggle. Things had a way of working themselves out.

“Uh-huh. Don’t get any ideas about a threesome. Trevone is off limits, willful woman.”

“Yes sir.”

Grinning, he licked his lips. “I’m getting very hungry.”

“You always are.” The decision was small in comparison to everything they’d been through but something she knew would forever change their life. While there had to be forgiveness, something they both had trouble with, this was a defining moment. “I’m proud of you.”

Luke raised his eyebrow. “I know. I have a couple of calls to make then dinner?”

“Dinner,” Jessie whispered.

“And no more surprises on this trip.”

“None. Deal.”

“Deal,” Luke stated, his voice commanding.

“I love you.”

He smiled, his eyes darting down the length of her body. “I love you and will do everything in my power to be the man you need, the Dom you need, for the rest of my life.”

When he walked inside Jessie grinned and turned to face the incredible sight of the early evening. Rubbing her hand across her belly she closed her eyes. Joy unlike anything she’d ever experienced filled her heart. She enjoyed the sunshine, drinking in the sights and sounds for several minute, so many incredible thoughts racing through her mind.

“Well daddy, you have another surprise coming. My Dom. My Sir.” Tipping her head to the sky she sighed, a single tear slipping from her eye. Things were not always as they seemed to be.

“My Sir.”
