In Front Of Tisa’s House

Madjesty snuck out of his house after having such a nice evening. Mosquitoes sucked his bare arms as he crept out but he didn’t care. He was on his way across the street to Tisa’s house. In a good mood, and excited about Mr. Nice Guy being in their lives, he got the nerve to ask the question he always wanted to know.

He knocked gently on her window to get her attention. And when she finally came to the window wearing a pretty pink nightgown, she looked behind her before acknowledging him. When the coast was clear, she raised the window.

“Hi.” She said.
“Will you be my girlfriend?” He blurted.
“Okay.”
“For real?”
“Yeah.”
“Can I have a kiss?”
Tisa looked behind her and leaned in kissing Madjesty softly on his

lips. His heart skipped beats. He knew then what he wanted more than anything. A girlfriend and a real family. Already at a young age he was articulating how he wanted his life to be and he couldn’t wait to make that happen with Tisa.

“I gotta go before my mama comes. I’ll see you later.” She said. “Okay. Bye.” He smiled.
Madjesty ran back across the street and sat on the porch for a little

while. He thought about life and he thought about his girl. Suddenly images of his mother ruining it all came to mind.

THE GREATEST MAN ON EARTH
SOME DAYS LATER

As time went on, the twins discovered that Mr. Nice Guy purchased a home on the same block as Ramsey’s, in the hopes of starting a better life away from racist ass Mississippi. Madjesty was grateful although Jayden was apprehensive. He didn’t like getting close to people only for them to leave him with broken hopes and promises. But after seeing how he really seemed to care, Jayden put down his guards and opened his heart.

Days were better the day he entered into their lives. He provided the best food he could buy and even dug into his own pocket to purchase them decent clothing. Mr. Nice Guy wasn’t rich so he had to take caution on the money he spent, but he did what he could. For whatever reason he gravitated towards the boys and it showed in his actions and the things he did for them.

One Saturday afternoon, he decided to take the boys to get haircuts. They never had a proper cut and most times Harmony would chop their hair off with a pair of dull scissors to keep them looking boy-like. So when they walked into the barbershop for the first time, both twins were amazed at the high spinning chairs and large mirrors. The sound of the clippers mesmerized them and they were interested in seeing how they’d look once they left. Everyday was an adventure with Mr. Nice Guy and today was no exception.

While Mr. Nice Guy was talking to the barbers, the twins sat down in chairs against the wall and took a moment to talk to each other alone.
“I love him,” Madjesty said.
“Me too.” Jayden whispered. “You don’t think he gonna leave us do you?”
“No. He gonna stay.” He paused. “If mama don’t give her pussy to somebody else.”
“MADJESTY! YOU CURSED!” Mr. Nice Guy looked at the boys, smiled and continued his conversation with a few barbers. He seemed proud to be their Ready-to-Love father.
“Why you so loud?” He frowned.
“How you know that word?”
“Mr. Bad Guy says it all the time when he and mama stinks up the living room.”
“Well I don’t like it. God don’t like it.” Jayden persisted.
Madjesty wasn’t going to argue with his brother about his opinion. So he left the matter alone.
“What you think gonna happen when Mr. Ramsey comes back?”
“I don’t know, Jayden. I’m scared though.”
“Maybe Mr. Nice Guy can take the house from Ramsey.” Even at this point, the boys didn’t know Mr. Nice Guy’s real name and after so much time passed, they felt it would be rude to ask him. So whenever they were in his presence they’d call him sir.
“Mr. Ramsey might not give up his house.”
“He might do.” Jayden persisted. “And then maybe we can all live together. Me, you, mama and Mr. Nice Guy.”
Madjesty’s eyes were wide with hope and anticipation. He wanted a real family, he wanted a real father and he wanted real love. “Maybe he can.”
When Mr. Nice Guy called the boys over to get their hair cut by separate barbers, one barber across the room wouldn’t take his eyes off of them. The entire time the boys received their hair cut, he looked at them with penetrating eyes. The twins felt so uncomfortable by his stares that they were five seconds from crying. Did he not like them? And if he didn’t would he tell Mr. Nice Guy not to like them too?
“Wagner, come here for a second man,” the strange barber said while a client sat in his chair. It was at that moment that they found out that Mr. Nice Guy’s name was Wagner and Madjesty liked it immediately.
Wagner swaggered over to the strange man to see what he wanted. Once there the strange barber whispered something in Mr. Nice Guy’s ear, which caused him to step away, frown and become angry. Then Mr. Nice Guy did something that shocked both boys. He stole the man in the face with a closed fist causing him to crash into his mirror shattering it into a million pieces.
“Get the fuck out of my shop!” the strange barber yelled holding his bloody nose.
Always the southern gentleman, Mr. Nice Guy shook his hand and addressed all those present except the pervert. “Sorry for the inconvenience, fellas.” He nodded at everyone. “I do hope you’ll continue to have a nice day.” Then he paid the barbers who cut the boy’s hair and softly patted the twins on their backs. “Come on, fellas. It’s time to hit the road.”
The twins hopped out of the seats and followed him out the door without hesitation. They never found out what caused Mr. Nice Guy to hurt the strange barber, and after the incident he acted as if nothing happened. He even took the twins to the movies before taking them to get some pizza and ice cream later that night. It was obvious that he took to the boys so much, that in a way, his connection with them was greater than it was with Harmony. He knew these were the impressionable years and he wanted to be the positive role model in their lives, that is if they would have him.
They would never discover that the strange barber knew, from the moment he laid eyes on the boys, that they were girls. So he wanted them sexually.
“Look, I know girls when I see them,”
the strange man whispered in Mr. Nice Guy’s ear.
“And I know you don’t have kids of ya’ own, you said it. Now I don’t know why you pawning them off as boys and I don’t care. I love me some little girl pussy too. So if you let me fuck one of them, I won’t say a word about what you do to the other. I have to tell you, I got some friends though, who may wanna pay to play, but that’s on you. I’m just interested in getting me a little taste now. So what do you say?”
he smiled licking his lips and groping his dick.
“Can I have one of them tonight?”
The strange barber’s words infuriated Mr. Nice Guy and although he didn’t show it, hours after the incident, it still weighed heavily on his heart.
Were the boys girls? If so, why would Harmony make such a vicious lie? He decided to ask her when he spoke to her later that night, when the kids were asleep. He knew she wasn’t the best person but her beauty, even with the scar on her face, intrigued him. She had more personality than any woman he’d ever met in his life. Plus, when she wasn’t drunk she was charming and a pleasure to be around. So he never gave up hope after meeting her at a bar that with a little backing, she could be one of the greatest.
After their night of fun, Mr. Nice guy dropped the kids off home. “Tell your mother I’ll be in, in a second.” He said. “I got to make a few stops.”
He saw the look of desperation in the twin’s eyes and felt it on the deepest level of his soul. “Look, I don’t know what you boys been through, but judging by the looks in your eyes I can tell it must’ve been a lot. But don’t worry, I’m coming back. I’m a man of my word.” He promised. “I will never leave either of you. No matter what.”
Mr. Nice Guy always knew what to say. Hope entered their lives the day they saw his face and they appreciated God for it.
“Go on now,” he smiled. “It’s dark out here. I’ll be back.”
He didn’t pull off until he saw the children walk inside. Mr. Nice Guy’s words resonated with them and unfortunately it would be the last time they’d ever hear him speak directly to them again.
