Adaline: The Silent

I hope you enjoyed Sasha: The Wallflower. Look out for Dominic’s story this summer as the Wallflower series continues! This will be released as a complete novel!

Adaline Lang is an up-and-coming photographer with more than her own set of problems. During her cousin's wedding she comes face-to-face with the man that she had fallen in love with as a young woman, only to find out he was in love with someone else. What will she do to finally be heard and convince him that the perfect women he has been looking for is standing right in front of him?

Dominic Vikhrov is caught between a rock and a hard place. The woman he has fawned after for so many years has finally returned to the United States. But he isn't the only one who is fighting for her heart. Never one to lose, Dominic has his eye on the prize no matter the cost. But will his tunnel vision blind him to something even greater?

An eighteen year-old Dominic watched his girlfriend’s cousin storm out of the front door as he parked his sports car in front of the Lang household. Brow perked with interest, he looked on as she scurried to the large oak tree on the front lawn and propped herself down on a wooden bench. Dominic had come to pick up Carla who he had planned to take to the movies that evening. She had been begging him all week to take her out with their friends being that they were the new ‘it’ couple on campus. The pride she took in their social status was off-putting but it had been expected for him to date one of the more popular girls in school being who he was- a Vikhrov.

At the same time, he knew next to nothing about her younger cousin, who was two years behind them. Despite their familial relationship, Carla rarely even acknowledged the girl when they crossed paths in the hallways. He didn’t know how true the rumors were, but it was said that she was deaf which left many people uncomfortable around her.

As he exited his vehicle, he heard her slight cries in the air and knew he couldn’t very well ignore them.  Making his way over quietly, Dominic gently touched her shoulder to gain her attention and took a seat beside her.

“Hey…are you okay?” he asked. When she didn’t respond, he assumed that maybe the rumors had been true and she was completely deaf, which left him little options for communication being that he knew nothing of sign language. Feeling like an idiot, he began to stand once more but stopped as her sniffling paused.

“Why are you even talking to me?”

He could hear an accent in her speech he assumed was because of her disability. “Whoa,” he couldn’t stop himself from saying, “I thought you were deaf.”

At that, she immediately stiffened. “Why the hell were you trying to talk to me then?”

“I’m sorry. I meant no disrespect. I honestly was just worried.” Dominic returned to his seat and looked at her fully now that her head was no longer bowed. With the setting sun warming her dark skin, he was mesmerized. It shined, completely blemish-free, in the light, accentuating the fullness of her lips and her doe-like eyes.

“I’m Dominic,” he introduced himself.

“Adaline.”

“Nice to meet you, Adaline. That’s a beautiful name.”
