‘Mummy, why are they shouting?’

‘Sweetie I’m not sure. I think maybe you better go up to your room.’

‘I thinks that’s a good idea, we’ll go with her hun. Shout up if you need anything.’

‘Thanks John.’

I took a deep breath before going into the house, walking into the lounge I find Mason sat down next to his sister, while his mother and father loom over him basically telling him how it is and how it should be. I listened for a few minutes before making my entrance, and it wasn
’t a quiet one.

‘What the hell is going on here?’ Everyone went silent before looking directly at me, before anybody could form a response I let them have it. ‘You know what I have had it. You come into our home, throwing god only knows what at him, telling me in as few words as possible how much you don’t like me and you believe everything is my fault, well you know what, your all wrong. My only issue was falling for your son. Everything else that’s happened ever since is all your doing, including ruining my daughters birthday, so thank you very much. How selfish can you all be? You’ve all made me feel like shit, you hurt Lily, and she still asked you to come for her birthday but guess what, ruined. You are ruining the future your son wants, so he can be happy, and for what? God only knows. Some ridiculous notion that our meeting was too convenient, well you know what Mase, I’m not gonna bother telling you to fix things with them anymore, its up to you. My only concern from now on will be ’Our’ family, Oh and in case you didn’t know yet, your Grandson is due January 1
st
, but guess what? Good luck coming anywhere near him.’

Before anybody could stop me I stormed out and up to our room slamming the door behind me. I fell asleep sobbing into my pillow. The next thing I remember was being lifted into strong arms, and placed back onto the bed. When I finally opened my eyes Mason is looking down at me, I feel a sudden case of embarrassment and shame.

‘Mase….I’m so, so sorry for what I said. Oh my God. I told them didn’t I? I told them about the baby. I shouldn’t have gotten involved. I was so angry, I heard them yelling at you from the car, John and Lys took Lily upstairs but they heard everything and then looking at you sat there. You looked defeated so I just couldn’t take it anymore. I don’t care if they hate me, but they shouldn’t be taking this out on you. I know what your parents think about me, and Mel told me that she blames me for the breakdown of your relationship, I can get used to that, but watching them shout at you like that I just…..’ before I could carry on, he placed his fingers to my lips to stop me.

‘Shhhh, babe. I don’t think anybody has ever come to my defence like that, I guess I never needed it before, but all I could think about while you were going off was how….fucking hot you looked and how much I wanted to strip you off and fuck you right there and then.’ What? Did he just tell me my rant turned him on? Ok.

‘Huh, I’m confused. Your not angry with me for basically telling your family to fuck off and that we’re pregnant?’

‘Fuck no. I’m glad you told them. I’m sick of you having to hide it all the time. At least now we can do whatever the hell we want to do, starting with letting me lick you all over, them tomorrow we are taking Lily out for the day. If anybody wants to come they can if not, fuck them.’

Ok I couldn
’t speak because my brain only heard ‘lick you all over’ so before I could move he walked out of the bedroom, I heard him talking to John. He checked on Lily before coming back into our room and locking the door.

‘Now where were we? Oh yea, I need you naked and lying flat so I can take full advantage of you, but before I do that…’ he lifted my top and pulled down the waist of my jeans

‘Hey son, it’s me daddy. I just wanted you to know that mommy and daddy love you, so much and we’re gonna make sure your always happy but just for now I need you to take a nice nap so I can make love to your mom without feeling guilty about it effecting you.’

I couldn
’t help but giggle at him, the baby couldn’t get enough of his amazing voice so kicked all the more. He only settled down when Mase sang to him, unfortunately that also lulled me to sleep until several hours later.

I woke to utter darkness and I knew instantly that I was alone. I turned on the side lamp and went in search of my gorgeous man. The house was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. I eventually found Mase, he was sat at the kitchen table deep in thought with lots of sheet music in front of him.

‘Babe…I didn’t mean to startle you. What are you doing down here?’

‘I didn’t want to wake you. I couldn’t sleep….. You look so peaceful when you sleep, so beautiful, I felt inspired to write.’

‘Ohhh that’s so sweet. Can I see?’

‘Nah not yet, when it’s finished. I think I’m done in for tonight though so let’s go back to bed.’

‘Well ok. I was sort of hoping you would pick up from earlier.’

‘Ha ha, my girl’s horny, I love it. You know me, I’m always at the ready so let’s go.’

And just like that he made good on his words of laying me naked and licking me all over before finally making love to me, he certainly knew how to make me feel better.

Chapter 19

Summer

The next day Mase was up early, making breakfast, he was so sweet. I listened from the hallway, as he pampered Lily. It was an amazing moment, he obliged her every whim. She had him wrapped around her finger, I suppose that
’s how it should be. Before I could think too much about it, I heard Gaby, Henry, and Mel walk into the kitchen. It was suddenly quiet, Lily then said something to Mase and walked out. I didn’t move.

‘Well that was interesting. What’s wrong with her?’ What, did Mel just ask that?

‘You’re kidding right? Lily heard you all last night. She’s so switched on, she understands how you feel about her mother, and apparently about her. Of course she doesn’t want to speak to any of you. Anyway….you should all help yourselves to breakfast, I need to make sure the birthday girl is ready for her day.’

Mason left, I stayed put and listened to his family.

‘Well what are we supposed to do now? He’s not listening to us, he’s so blinded by Summer, he doesn’t see anything else, and that child, calling him daddy, it’s ridiculous.’

I was appalled by his mother
’s words. My sudden intake of breath was loud enough to give me away.

‘Why Mom?…have you ever thought that Summer actually loves Mason, I mean she hasn’t asked him for anything. She left him to protect him.’

‘Yes, and now she’s pregnant, how do you think that happened? By accident?’

‘Well if I need to explain that to you mom, then there’s something wrong.’

‘Ha, ha, Mel your funny.’

‘All I’m saying is that unless you start to accept that Mason is happy with Summer, you may never see your son again, and I doubt you’ll ever meet your grandchild, is that really how you want to leave things.’

‘That won’t happen. Look I’m sure she’s a lovely woman but he needs someone who can keep up with him not hold him back.’

Wow Henry just hit a new low. I
’d heard enough, I walked backwards to get away, when I suddenly hit what felt like a wall of muscle, I already knew who it was, how could I not have know, Mase had been right behind me the whole time listening, I’m not sure how much he heard, his face was impassive but I knew him better than that, inside he was boiling. I didn’t know what to do, so I just looked down at my feet. He lifted my face to his and just kissed me softly before storming past me into the kitchen. Oh shit, here is goes.

‘Oh…Mason, I’m glad your back, we need to talk son.’

‘No…no we don’t, I’ve heard everything I need to. I’m actually stunned it has come to this,’ My heart was breaking for him ‘I’ve made arrangements for all of you to fly home this afternoon…..it was a mistake to think you could actually put your feeling aside and just be happy to spend time with us, especially as it was Lily’s request. I didn’t realise how selfish you are, how could you?’

‘Son, I’m not sure what your talking about.’

‘Cut the shit dad, I just heard everything you’ve said, and unfortunately so did my fiancée so I wouldn’t expect any grand gestures especially when our son is born.  I’ve given you guys everything, and now when I finally find something real you trash it like its nothing. I’m done giving you the benefit of the doubt, Summer was so forgiving of everything you said to her, she encouraged me to contact you and talk to you. She’s so loving, she didn’t want to be the reason we never talked again, but guess what? You’ve just accomplished that all on your own. Please don’t contact me again.’ And with those words he walked out.

The stunned silence didn
’t last long as Gaby rushed to catch up to Mase as he climbed the stairs.

‘Sweetheart, you can’t do this. I’m your mother, we love you. Everything we’ve said or done is to protect you, surely Summer understands that!’

I waited at the bottom of the stairs. Mase stopped and turned around to face his mother.

‘She can, and she did understand, why do you think I called you? Because Summer asked me to. She didn’t want our relationship to be strained. She’s gone out of her way to make sure your happy and its still not enough.’

‘I’m sorry son, but your fortune is what most people see when they look at you, you’re an easy target. You can’t tell me you haven’t thought about how coincidental your meeting was.’

‘I thought about lots of things, but most of all I think about how I’d be dead if we hadn’t met and how I knew the moment I saw her that she was my future, before she even knew who I was. I just…wish you could understand that, and just be….happy for us.’ His eyes look to sad when they met mine, I started up the stairs toward him, but I suddenly feel a sharp pain shoot through my back and stomach.

‘Ahhhh…. ahhhh, Mason.’ he literally ran down toward me before I fell back. It was so quick I didn’t have time to even think about what was happening.

‘Baby, what’s wrong?’ I couldn’t answer him, tears sprung to my eyes and fear gripped me.

‘John, Lys’ Mase screamed at the top of his lungs ‘Call an ambulance NOW’ Everybody rushed into the hall, my friends ran down and Lily was right behind them, Gaby looked horrified, Henry looked concerned and Mel, well she looked scared, but the look on Mason’s face was terrifying. I knew I needed to calm him down, I reached out and grabbed his hand.

‘Baby, look at me’ When his focus was on me I carried on ’I don’t know what’s wrong…. Ahhh, but please….don’t worry yet, ok?’

‘I’m sorry…I’m sorry, this is my fault. All the stress, I’ve hurt you.’

‘Don’t be silly. Ahhhhhh’ I bent over in pain ‘Please….just make sure the baby’s ok.’

‘Ok love.’

We arrived at the hospital shortly after, I was rushed into a room and examined by several doctors, one of which was brought in to scan the baby

‘Well Summer, as you can see your son is doing great, healthy heartbeat, nothing we can see to cause alarm, however your blood pressure is high, which could have been the reason for the sudden pain you experienced. There’s no bleeding and no placental abruption. We’ll keep you in for observation but everything looks fine.’

‘Thanks Doctor.’

When we
’re alone, I finally allow what I had been feeling to come out, and when I started I couldn’t stop. My tears overflowed and I started shaking.

‘Mason….I’m sorry.’

‘Babe, don’t cry, everything’s fine. Your fine, the baby’s fine. You saw him.’

‘I know, but it’s my fault. I should have done more, not let everything get to me, I’m sorry….so sorry.’

My tears wouldn
’t stop, even when Mase grabbed hold and wouldn’t let go. It took a while but I finally fell asleep. When I woke up, it took a while for my eyes to open so I just listened to everyone around me. I heard whispers and Mase talking to his parents.

‘Sweetheart, I’m sorry. This is our fault, we’ve put so much pressure on you, and obviously this is taking its toll on Summer. Your sister tried to warn us, we’ve been so blind. Can you forgive us son?’

‘I’m…sure I can, but its Summer you need to apologise to.’

‘And we will sweetheart, but I think it’s best if we let her rest so you can bring her home as soon as possible.’

‘Thanks….Mom’ they left soon after, and I drifted back to sleep.
