I heard these conversations going back and forth until I
’d had heard enough.

‘Stop.’ I screamed ‘Why are you talking? You should be out there looking for my family, not wasting time. They took my call when I rang earlier, they didn’t say anything, but I heard my baby crying, when I begged them to tell me he was ok, they hung up. Why can’t you start there? Trace the call or something please.’ All I could do was sob ‘Why haven’t you found anything out? I mean it’s been months, I gave you details of the guy following me, his car, where I was and you haven’t got anything. How is that possible? And now they have my baby.’ Anger was starting to take over. A frantic Mel ran into the house carrying Lily, not knowing what the hell was happening but she stopped when she saw the police and my fuming face, tear staining my cheeks.

‘I’m sorry I came as quickly as I could.’

‘Mel, thank God your both ok, Lily.’

‘Mummy, daddy what’s going on? Where are Grandpa, Grandma, and Aiden?’

‘We don’t know baby, Mommy and I are just talking to the police now so we can try to find them ok. Don’t worry about all the extra people here ok, its just extra security to make sure your safe.’ I’m so glad Mase knew what to say.

‘Mel, I want you to stay indoors, John, Lys, you too. Lily I need you to stay close to us ok. Babe?’

I looked into his eyes, and they were screaming for help. I knew I had to grow up if we stood any chance of seeing our family again.

‘It’s ok, what do we do first?’

Mason

My heart was beating out of my chest, how the hell could this have happened, right under our nose. I should have guessed something was off. After Summer went out and I hadn’t heard from my parents I should have known. When I tried making some business calls from the house and the line was dead I should have known. Why hadn’t anybody found anything? It was like we had a ghost following us, but who the hell wanted to hurt us this much? Go to this much trouble? Hearing Summer scream broke my heart, her cry will be with me forever. When she fell apart I didn’t know what to do, but seeing her anger when the officers were talking to me showed me my angel, had just turned into a devil ready to fight, the look in her eyes, brought back the woman she’s always been. A fighter.

‘It’s ok, what do we do first?’ She said, replying to my silent plea for help, she knows me better than I know myself.

‘I’ve called in additional security, and I have my personal security teams on route to provide you with any information they’ve found over the last few months. It’s not much but we’ll have more than we have now.’

‘We appreciate that sir but, you have to let us handle this investigation.’ Summer replied

‘Well …. we tried that already. Have you found out who tried to kill me and my unborn child? No I didn’t fucking think so.’

‘Babe, it’s ok.’

‘No, it’s not ok. Do I need to remind you that my four month old son is out there somewhere with some fucking psycho, doing god knows what to him and my in laws. Now I’ve had enough of your bullshit. Our security will work with you but…if they can find my family before you, so be it.’

‘Mrs Stone….’ The DCI didn’t get the chance to say anything, Summer stormed out of the room. Wow, a really inappropriate time but holy shit was she sexy.

‘You heard my wife, you can have all the information they have but if my team are in a position to find my family before you then I’ll take it.’ With those final words I left, spurring them into activity.

‘Mase man. I feel useless. Is there anything we can do?’ Poor John, he wanted to help.

‘Nah, I’m waiting for security to arrive so we can get up to speed. How did this happen John? I mean I’m supposed to protect them, I have all this money, and the means, so how could they do this?’

‘Mason don’t man. You couldn’t have done anything. Whoever this fucker is, they seem intent, and he’s been biding his time. Are the police checking surveillance?’

‘I assume so, but just in case, my team employs a … well a uhh …..a Hacker, so they know everything the police may not want us to know. I need some answers soon, Summers strong but if something happens to Aiden ….. I have no idea what we’ll do.’ All we could do now was wait, my only hope was the additional team members that had been hired specifically to find my son at all costs, regardless of the police involvement. I knew Clive was an amazing man when I hired him away from The Sanctuary. When he said he could help me with anything, he wasn’t lying. Let’s just hope and pray he knows what he’s doing now, my families safety is all I care about and I don’t care what they have to do as long as they find my son.

Chapter 28

Summer

As the day progressed the police were in and out of the house, Clive arrived shortly after with Mason
’s security team, he showed them straight into his office. I walked around the house trying to retrace all the steps I had made, my life had been difficult and I had definitely struggled with my family but I couldn’t understand who would go to this trouble to hurt me. My family threw me away to pay off a debt, the man I was married off to didn’t have any interest in love, and was the most selfish brute you could ever meet, but apart from that everybody else I had met since then were my closest friends and family. It didn’t make any sense. My mixed up thoughts were interrupted suddenly with arms wrapping around me.

‘Babe, are you ok? Stupid question, I’m sorry.’

‘Mase, don’t please. This is not your fault, the more I think about it the more I think this is about me. My history I mean.’

‘Angel….Clive has an update from the States.’

‘Oh, ok. What is it?’

‘The guy that stabbed you, the police caught him.’

‘What….but that would mean this is somebody else? So it is about me, the more I think about it, that would make sense, but apart from HIM, my family are the only other people who would have any reason to hurt me. I haven’t even considered it until now because they didn’t give a shit about me back then and they didn’t look back, I forgot about them, Mase what if its them? What if they think I owe them something? His death was in the papers so they would know, and then our relationship has been all over the news. Is it possible that this is some sort of revenge?’

‘I have no idea sweetheart but at least it gives us another place to look. You said that your father had some questionable associates, so it’s possible he got somebody you didn’t recognise to follow you. I’ll let Clive know but you may need to discuss this with the police. I know it’s not something you ever wanted to talk about….’

‘I don’t care about that, as long as it helps find Aiden and your parents.’

Mason went in search of Clive and I walked back into the main room where the police had set up their investigation.

‘DCI Brown. I need to discuss some things with you.‘ I walked into the kitchen with the DCI right behind me ’I have been considering who may have taken my baby and I want you to look into my family.’

‘Mrs Stone…. Why would you think they could be involved?’

‘Well…my past is difficult for me to discuss but let’s just say that my biological family gave me to my former husband in lieu of a gambling debt my father had. They didn’t consider me worth anything, I was just equity and I was married off to my late husband at the age of eighteen, at which point I was used and abused by him, until his death last year. I know this sounds…. well a little out there but I’ve been thinking about who would want to hurt us, and the only people I can think of is them. I don’t know why, perhaps money, I can’t think, I just want my baby.’

‘Ok Mrs Stone, we’ll look into it. Every lead will be looked at and based on what you just told me we need to consider it. Do you have any details for them?’

‘Only what I remember, I’m not sure if their address has changed, it’s been eight Years.’

‘That’s fine, it’s a place to start, I’ll send Detective Jones in to take some information.’

‘Thank you.’ Finally I may get some answers. I decided to find Mason, and found him in Lily’s bedroom. They were cuddled close together and Lily was sobbing, but his gentle reassurance was so heart warming I couldn’t help but tear up. It would be a sweet moment if we weren’t broken hearted and scared about Aiden being missing.

‘Daddy, where is Aiden?’

‘Baby….we don’t know yet but that’s why the police and all those people are here to try and help find him, grandpa and grandma. Try not to worry ok, they’ll be back before you know it. Why don’t you try to sleep? I’ll ask Auntie Mel to come sit with you ok.’ with that my baby rolled over and tried to sleep. Mase walked out and let out a huge sigh.

‘Sweetheart, I didn’t see you there.’

‘I love you, we will get them back. I know it. I’ve given the police as much information as I know, did you let Clive know?’

‘Yea, lets just say their already on their way, if they find anything we’ll know it soon enough.’

Mase left to look for Mel and I went in search of my friends. I needed some positive thoughts, that my son was safe and I would get him back soon.

I found my friends in Aidens nursery, Lys was sitting in his rocking chair with John by the window.

   ‘Hey guys.’

‘Oh hun, how are you?’

‘I’m….I’m a mess. I’m scared, heartbroken, and angry. I just want to punch somebody. How can this happen? I mean why would somebody want to hurt a baby? My baby…my baby.’ I couldn’t help the tears that began to stream down my face, Lys was instantly on her feet.

‘Sweetie, it’s not surprising you’re so distraught. I feel useless right now, and he’s not mine, but I don’t think they’d hurt him.’

‘We don’t know that. If it’s my family they could do whatever to him, and Mason’s parents, to hurt me. Don’t forget what type of people they are, heartless. If they hurt him, I’ll kill them, I swear it.’

‘Summer, I know that’s how you feel now but you’re not that type of person. Please don’t do anything stupid. Mase would never forgive himself, the guy’s already broken.’

‘I know John, I’m sorry. I just want to hurt somebody right now.’

‘So do I, we all do, but we can’t help find Aiden if the police arrest us for doing something stupid. Let’s just wait and see if they find anything.’

I knew they were right but what kind of mother would I be if I did nothing. I looked up when Mason walked into the nursery.

‘Hey guys, you’re going to want to see this.’

‘What? What have you found?’

‘Let’s just say our hacker has found footage from your accident and last night. The same person is seen leaving your accident and watching the house. I can only assume he cut the phone lines for a reason, but so far we have no idea why.’

‘Show me, I need to see him.’

‘In my office, the police have not been informed as yet’ we trailed behind him, when we reached the office Clive was waiting for us, with five other team members, the hacker was sat with a laptop.

‘Go ahead Jake, show Mrs Stone.’

‘Clive, Summer is fine, please….show me what you found,’ he played back the footage from my accident, we watched and I walked closer to the screen, John and Lys moved closer and the three of us gasped at the same time.

‘Babe, what is it?’

‘Oh my god, that’s …..my father. That bastard, he was watching, he's here’ the footage showed the car run me off the road, the crash, the other car slow down, stop and my father get in with a smile on his face. Holy fuck. ‘This is about me, why? He didn’t have a problem giving me away, I don’t understand.’

‘Sweetie, your father was a sadistic fuck back when we were younger, imagine what he would do if he realised that you were worth more now, than before. I think he would do just about anything.’ I looked at Lys and I knew she was right.

‘What now?’

‘We should show the police what we found, I’ll deal with how we got this information later, Clive liaise with the DCI, I want Mr Clarke in custody ASAP.’

‘Mase, what else? He’s not working alone.’

‘I know, that’s why I’m going to call a press conference, we need all the help we can get and I think the public will want to help when they find out what’s happened to Aiden, we’ll use the whole country as our surveillance system.’
