Five
years later…

“OH MY GOD!
It hurts…I’m going to kill you. I hate you AHHHH!!!” Sophia was screaming at
Evan and she squeezed my hand to the point where my fingers were now going
numb. “Just Push
Soph
come on you can do it. You are
doing great.” He tried to coach her along which only aggravated her more. They
were about to bring their first baby into the world and Evan was beyond
excited. Sophia was too until labor began and then Evan became her biggest
enemy. I tried not to laugh every time she yelled something obscene at him a
few times I even had to hide my face to muffle my laughter. It wasn’t bothering
him he just kept smiling and being so sweet. “One more
push
Sophia and you’ll be a mommy,” the nurse coached her which she accepted. I was
ready to feel my fingers again and meet my new god child. “A girl…you have a
beautiful daughter. Congratulations!” The doctor told them and I stepped back
to allow Evan to be right there when they laid his daughter onto his wife’s
chest. They had now been married for close to two years and lived two doors
down from Luke and me. Actually Luke and I just moved in with one another six
months ago and I was reluctant at first but I gave in I mean we weren’t even
married yet it was still a month away. He proposed to me this last Christmas at
his parent’s house in front of his family and mine. I think they all were in on
it and it was so sweet. He did it at the dinner table as they all set around
watching. He used the excuse that he had to help his mom with desert…yeah well
my desert came out in his hand as he knelt next to me and I still remember his
words…

Zoey
…I found the love with you that
most people dream of. You came along when I was a mess and you made me realize
what life was about. I love you beyond belief. There are absolutely no words
that could possibly describe the depth of my love for you. I strive every day
to be the man that your daddy would have blessed to become your husband. After
asking your mother and sister for their blessing I am now asking you to become
my wife and make me the luckiest man alive…

My sister recorded the entire
thing on her phone and I have made sure to save it somewhere safe because that
moment was one of the best in my life. I cried out the word yes and kissed him
between sobs. He held up his end of the deal and now I know that he would never
purposely hurt me. I know that my daddy is looking down and has given me the
thumbs up to the man I will soon call my husband.

I am following in my momma’s
footsteps and have chosen nursing as a career. Luke graduated and is now
working for his father’s contracting firm. He will one day inherit his father’s
company.

I walked out into the waiting
room to find a group of people waiting to hear the news I figured Evan and
Sophia could use some family bonding time. Her mom had just arrived she got
stuck in the airport when she was on her way back from visiting family out
east. “It’s a girl…and she is absolutely beautiful!” I announced from the
waiting room doorway. Luke winked at me from his seat next to Lily and mom. I
walked over and he reached for my hand as he stood and kissed my nose then
hugging me to him tightly, “So when do you and I get to have a baby?” I laughed
and looked up to him…”Slow down stud we
gotta
get
married first.” He kissed me gently which always seems to send chills down my
neck, “One more month Baby and I can barely wait.” Wow I adored this guy.

Things were great for us and I
was so happy. My mom has just recently started dating. His name is Jack and he
is actually a police officer. He was divorced about three years ago and has
lived in town his entire life. He has one son who is nineteen and one daughter
the age of twenty two. They are great and we all get along surprisingly well.
Everyone waited around until Evan came out and took us back a couple at a time
to meet his new daughter. People started to clear out once they saw that Sophia
and her little princess were both doing well. Luke and I waiting until last to
go in. Evan handed the baby to Luke and seeing him snuggle her was amazing and
well it proved to me that I could still fall deeper in love with him because
right then that was exactly what happened and I could picture him as a daddy to
our children. My eyes flooded with tears, “
Zoey
, I
wanted to ask you if it was okay to give her your middle name?” I turned to
Sophia and the tears spilled over…I reached out to hug her, “I would be
honored.” Luke handed her to me and I fell in love...

Sophia smiled, “Aunt
Zoey
and Uncle Luke meet your god daughter Madelyn Rose.”
