Chapter 4

Reece

Standing in the shadows backstage, I have a
front row view of Callie in a fucking lip lock with Donovan. What the fuck does
he think he’s doing? He knows damn well she’s mine…
but she isn’t
!

This summer spent in Alabama changed my
life, in more ways than I care to admit because I’d met a blonde bombshell,
who, no matter how much I try, I can’t get out of my fucking head. She’s like a
permanent migraine; I constantly think about her, get drunk to numb the pain of
how I treated her, which ends up with me spending the morning, chucking my guts
up. My own permanent migraine.

She’s looking real cozy with Donovan,
standing all snuggled up with him. She has her sexy cowboy boots on her feet
that showcase her gorgeous legs, which lead to heaven. Heaven right now is
covered in a short, denim skirt, showing off her curves with her tight little
tank, the fabric straining across her large chest. She makes my mouth water. I lick
my lips before I realize what I’m doing.

I was crazy to think Donovan would stay
away from her now that I screwed up. I knew back then he had more of an
interest in her than what he’d let on. But it’s going to hurt like a fucker if
she turns to him. Who am I kidding, it’d hurt like a fucker no matter who she
turns to.

My breathing starts to pick up as an image
of her sprawled out, naked, wet, and hungry for me, like she’d been that last
time, comes to mind. While I fight with the arousal in my jeans, I reach up and
wipe my eyes.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

“Hey. You need me to take care of that
again?”

Shit. Where the fuck did she come from? I
keep my back toward her while I get my
pussy
self back together. I’m acting like a damn girl.

Gasping when she strokes my cock, I quickly
move her hand away, not wanting to go there again. At least not yet.

Turning, I see the smirk on her face before
she replaces it with, well, I’m not sure because she looks as though she’s
swallowed a whole lemon.

“You’re hung up on her. Your friend’s
girl.” Laughing, she walks off toward her friends. No doubt to tell them all
about ‘bad boy Reece’ and his girl problem.

“Reece, get over here,” Phoenix shouts,
having come up for air with Thalia.

I start to walk towards him while trying
not to break my neck on all the wires and equipment lying around the floor.
Most of it’s our gear that we dumped when we arrived earlier. The club manager
didn’t want us to set up straightaway because he wasn’t sure what his boss had
agreed for Rebel Walking to perform on.

Kenza, the club, has only been open around
twelve months, and has been converted from a condemned warehouse so the space
is huge and perfect for gigs. There are three, semi-circular stages at the back
of the club, which stay concealed behind removable walls. The club is extremely
modern with lots of black glass, not to mention chrome.

Apparently the club’s owner now resides on
the second floor having had the builders in there the past couple of times
we’ve played here.

Ruben, the owner, is a great guy and not
only pays us a decent salary for performing, but covers all our travel expenses
and accommodation. Although that’s a factor in our decision to be here, he
always gets the crowds in. He’s also known in the clubs for his anti-drug
policy; basically, if anyone is caught carrying or doing drugs within the
club’s walls, you get banned from ever entering again, and thrown to the cops.
I may be a drunken ass half the time, but drugs are something I’ve never done.
No intention of doing either.

Slowly approaching the guys, Donovan having
lost Callie along the way, I get my first glimpse of Luke, who Callie is crazy
about, apparently. I give him a good once over and shrug. I have no idea why as
there’s nothing special about him.

“Reece. This is Luke – from Rebel
Walking.” Phoenix frowns as he meets my eyes before moving his eyes between the
two of us.

“Luke,” I mumble, wanting to be anywhere
but here right now, especially knowing that Callie likes this guy.

He grins and laughs before looking off to
his right. I follow his line of sight and see Thalia and Callie in deep
conversation with their heads together. No fucking way.

“You’ve spotted my fiancée,” Phoenix says
making it known one of the girls is with him.

“You’re not engaged to them both, though.
Which one’s yours?” Luke asks, rubbing his whisker covered jaw, and licking his
lips without removing his stare.

Phoenix glances at me as though he’s
waiting for me to say something before giving Luke his attention again.

“The dark haired one. Thalia. The other one
is her best friend, Callie…she has a thing for you.”

Fuck
me.
My eyes immediately meet Phoenix’s.

“I think I’ll go and say hi then.” Luke
glances between us before saying, “She has gorgeous legs and a tight ass.”

“You have no idea,” I mumble under my
breath, but he catches it anyway. His expression changes from lust to surprise.

Unable to stand still any longer, I turn my
back on them and walk onto the stage to start helping get the gear set up. If
I’m busy there’s less chance of me starting anything with Luke, but he better
keep his damn hands to himself, otherwise…

“What the fuck’s wrong with you? And don’t
say Callie. You made your choice about her, now you have to live with it.”

I stiffen at the voice, but continue to set
up the equipment. “Thanks for that – Mom,” I sarcastically tell Donovan
without looking up.

He laughs. “You do know Luke has a
reputation with the women?”

I drop a speaker on my foot.
Motherfucker!
Why did I decide to wear
sneakers instead of boots?

Looking at Donovan under my eyelids, I
watch him wipe his eyes, which are watering with his loud as fuck laughter.

“Sorry…” he sits down on top of another
speaker, chuckling and not sorry at all.

Taking a deep breath, he tries again.
“Sorry man. That must have hurt like a fucker.” He grins.

I frown at him. “Do you think we can get
through a night without you mentioning Callie and my past screw up?”

Donovan’s laughter fades and the smile slips
from his face. He leans forward with his hands resting on his knees. “That’s
the thing…it’s not in the past.”

“Like hell.” I heave the speaker into
position and start plugging the gear into the relevant slots. “It’s in the past
and that’s where it’s staying.”

I can feel his glare as he stands behind
me. “Fuck if it is. But I’ll tell you something, she’s a sexy, smart, young
woman. And if you don’t intend to go after her, groveling on your knees, then,
as far as I can see, she’s a free agent.”

I clench my fists wanting to plant them in
his face, but luckily for him, he walks away and I’m left there with a pile of
equipment to set up. “Suits me just fine,” I snarl and throw myself into the
job.

Lifting up the next speaker, I continue
slamming around, as I finish setting some of the gear up in silence. As I work,
my gaze finds the chick from before standing to one side of the stage, licking
the fuck out of a longneck. My dick twitches behind my zipper.

Shifting my gaze to the opposite side of
the stage, I can see Callie and Thalia standing talking to
Luke
; I try and breathe through my anger. So what if there’s a guy
sniffing around her? What the fuck do I care?

Kicking a box out of my way, I stride
toward the chick. My fists clenching. My breathing heavy.
Fuck!

~ * ~

Simon’s on stage introducing us to the
crowd out front while we’re in the sidelines waiting to take up position, but
all I can think about is
Callie.
Wondering
what the hell she finds so damn attractive about
him
.

“Oomph.” I rub my ribs giving Phoenix the
finger.
Shit
that hurt, but I’ll be
damned before I let him know it’s still hurting like a fucker. “What the hell’s
wrong with you?”

“What’s wrong with me? The first time
you’re in the same room as Callie, and what do you go and do?
Fuck,
a fucking groupie whore. Open your
goddamn eyes.” He turns back to look at me, but not before I catch his eyes
straying behind me.
I will not turn
around. I will not turn around.

Fuck!
I turn around. Luke’s got his hand on Callie’s hair. One of her curls,
wrapping around his finger. No way.

Phoenix smirks before walking on stage.

Just as I’m about to blow the gig and drag
Callie somewhere away from that bastard, Donovan wraps his arm around my neck,
practically dragging me onto the stage.

“She’s fine. Leave it for now.” Donovan
releases me and starts his round of the stage getting everyone worked up.

Usually, that’s me, but I can’t stop
looking at Callie. I didn’t fuck the chick. I couldn’t do it knowing Callie was
outside the room.
Yeah, didn’t stop you
from having her suck you off though, did it?

Chapter 5

Callie

“Your hair’s so soft.” Luke laughs. “I bet
a gorgeous girl like you gets that a lot.” He continues to play with the loose
strands of my hair, letting them wrap around his fingers.

I look up, meeting his eyes, and then gulp
with nerves. He’s a gorgeous guy. About my height, full of colorful tattoos…and
muscle. Licking my lips, I glance at Thalia who’s watching us closely. She
winks when I catch her eye, giving me the thumbs up.

“Only once before,” I whisper, trying to
fight my way through my emotions. While I’m here with Luke, flirting with him,
I’m feeling shy, and can’t quite get the bad girl act going. Why now? Well,
I’ll tell you why now. The why is about thirty feet in front of me wearing the
meanest looking scowl I’ve ever seen anyone wear. In fact, I’m feeling more
nervous than shy and it’s because of the looks Reece keeps throwing at me.

Taking a deep breath, I turn back to Luke
and give him a sweet smile. Laying on the Texas charm, I reach out and run a
finger along his arm. He breaks out in goose bumps. Inwardly smiling, I ask,
“So tell me Luke…are you really known as the panty stealer?” I lick my lips
again, flicking my hair over my shoulder while waiting for his answer.

When he gets over his initial shock at my
question, he laughs. Maybe embarrassed.
Hmm
.
I cock an eyebrow, waiting for him to reply.
Is he blushing?
I grin. There is nothing for it. A huge grin splits
my face at the big bad ass standing in front of me – blushing.

He moves a tad closer, and whispers,
“That’s actually Taron or was, but tell me, are you going to let me steal
yours?”

I should have known that, but he has my
brain befuddled.

With one hand still attached to my hair, he
slides his other hand along my arm. Tickling along my skin and leaving a trail
of heat. Why the hell do I have to get turned on by him? When my intention was
to make Reece hot and bothered knowing what he’s given up?

I glance to the stage and Reece looks ready
to come over to us and kick some ass. Well, if he can go off with a skank in
front of me then why the hell can’t I have some fun? It’s only fair.

Leaning in, I whisper in his ear, “To steal
mine, I’d have to be wearing them.” Pulling back, I snicker seeing the heat in
his eyes. I’m wearing them, but he doesn’t need to know that, and realistically
he’s not going to be finding out.

Before I can move back out of his space,
his hands land on my hips, keeping me close. Meeting his eyes again, I see
lust, clear as day.
Shit
. A trill of
apprehension runs through me and my smile falters for a half second. I’m not
sure I’m ready for this. I shouldn’t have said what I did. I’ve always hated
girls who tease guys. Not their guy in a playful way, but to get a random guy
to pay attention to them, only to back out at the last minute, which is what
I’m about to do. This isn’t me.

“Luke, get your ass over here.”

His hands tighten against me before he
releases the hold he has on my hips and shouts over his shoulder, “Taron, cut
the shit. I’ll be there in a minute.” He rubs along his lips with one of his
hands, and his eyes are filled with a lot of questions that I’m not sure I want
to answer. “You staying around? We can get some drinks later. Here at the
club.”

What will it hurt? We’re planning on
sticking around until later anyway. “Okay.” I offer him a shy smile. “I’d like
that.”

He grins, backing away from me. “I’ll be
back real soon.” He trips backwards over some cable on the floor, only just
catching himself before he ends up on his ass.

“Come on lover boy.” Talon, who is
Taron’s
twin, hits him on the back, laughing, but not
before Luke looks back toward me, with an embarrassed grin.

Ohmygod
.
Callie, are you crazy? Reece is going to flip. I’m surprised he stayed on the
stage with you flirting like crazy with Luke.” Thalia grabs hold of my arm to
get my attention.

I sigh. “Look…Reece isn’t interested in me
anymore. He went off with that skank.” I inhale and exhale, slowly to try and
prevent my tears from falling. “You told me I had to move on, which is what I’m
trying to do.” I hold my hand up to stop her interrupting me. “I know all Luke
is after is a good time. That’s all I want. I’m not sure if I’m ready to be
with someone else. I was only with Reece for an afternoon of delight,” I grin,
“and the evening, but…we connected. Or at least I thought we did and I’m just
not ready to connect in that way with someone else.”

“You know what we need?” She grins. I know
that she heard everything I said, but in true Thalia form, she knows I need her
to change the subject.

I shake my head. “Do I want to know what we
need?”

“Let’s go and watch the guys from the
front. I can’t really see Phoenix from here, and I’m thirsty.”

Taking my arm, we about-turn and jump down
the few steps leading away from the stage. How Thalia knows where she’s going
is beyond me because I can’t see a damn thing. It’s pitch black with flashes of
light from within the club, every time the door at the end of the corridor
opens.

“Thalia...” I trail off. My breathing is
becoming uneven with the panic welling up inside me. I can’t do this. The walls
are closing in. All the time I’m putting one foot in front of the other while I
cling to Thalia.

She opens the door and pulls me into the
actual club. We’ve come out close to the bar, which isn’t too crushed with
people. Because of Deception performing on stage everyone is pushing forward
and dancing.

I’m trying to get myself centered when
Thalia shoves a bottle of water into my hand. “Drink.”

I guzzle the water down, which helps quell
the panic I’m feeling. Ever since being a small child and getting locked in the
attic, I’ve had a fear of the dark. I’d gone up there to hide from the boy
next-door who I’d seen arrive with his parents. He’d looked up to my bedroom
window the minute he’d stepped from his father’s car. He gave me the chills.
Still does if I’m honest. He always watches me…he just stares…constantly. My
parents had no idea I was hiding up there, and closed then locked the door. It
had been two hours later when they’d discovered where I was, but by then I’d
been in major panic mode. So now every time I’m in the dark, my panic attack
kicks in.

Thalia is the only one of my friends who
knows about my hang-up and the reason why.
Creepy
Drew
. I shudder.

“I was about to ask if you’re feeling
better, but I think I’ll wait.” Thalia pulls me closer to the glass and chrome
bar before pushing me down onto one of the bar stools.

My breathing has actually started picking
up again so I look around, starting with the hottie behind the bar. Mmm, I
wouldn’t mind him making me feel better.

“Hmm! I see you’re finally feeling better.”
She grins at me, having a good look at the guy who is tending bar. “Nice ass.”

“Not as nice as Reece’s.” I smirk, and
without meeting her eyes, I look toward the stage…and sigh. Will I ever get
over Reece? He’s so damn sexy with his long legs hidden behind denim, leading
up to his tight ass and package. And what a package it is too.

Licking my lips, my gaze wanders up to the
waistband of his jeans and can just make out the top of the pistol tattoos he
has on that sexy ‘V’ of his. The tattoos end so damn close to his cock and just
the thought of them and how he reacted when I licked around them is enough to
have me wet, and aching. He’d been standing at the foot of the bed, me on my
hands and knees while I worked him over with my mouth. Donovan had been
kneeling behind me on the bed, wedged between my thighs with his cock buried
deep inside me. So
fucking
hot…
God, it’s hot in here
.

I move my tank away from the front of my
body to cool down some, but with the images in my head mixing with the image of
him up there on stage, I’ve no chance.

“You are so obvious…and stop squirming in
your seat. It’s about to become embarrassing.” Thalia laughs before taking a
deep swallow from her longneck.

Narrowing my eyes, I take in her flushed
complexion. Never mind me, Thalia is getting hot and bothered herself, her eyes
glued to Phoenix, and she looks ready to orgasm where she stands. “Yeah. Right.
As though you’re not doing some squirming of your own.”

She laughs. “Do you blame me? All three of
them are so hot.” She points toward the stage with her drink. “Phoenix is going
to be hard as hell when he leaves the stage, so I’ll have to go and help him
relieve all that tension.” She grins.

I push her slightly on the shoulder. “Did I
really need to know that?” Chuckling, I finish my drink trying to avoid looking
back toward the stage again. Unfortunately, my eyes have a mind of their own
and travel back to the stage and
Reece.
I freeze. Is he looking at me? He seems to be looking directly at me, but it’s
so dark, there’s no way…

“Callie?”

I hear Thalia calling my name, but I ignore
her. I can’t move my eyes from the bad boy who’s holding my gaze. My breathing
is erratic. My nipples are hard pebbles and I have a throb in a place that’s
damn right inconvenient.

“Callie?”

Thalia snaps her fingers in front of my
face, which draws my attention away from the smirking face of Reece and back to
the grinning face of my best friend.

No words are needed. I grin and let out a
whoosh of air. God, what this guy does to me.
