They kissed for a long time, until she brushed against his injured shoulder and he winced.
“Oh, Jake, I’m sorry,” she said, stepping away.
He grabbed her around the waist and pulled her back to him. “You’re worth a little pain now and then, my sweet.”
She raised her knee between his legs and he groaned.
“I was hoping you’d see it that way,” she said, “because I don’t wa
nt to wait until your shoulder heals.”
“Hell, I don’t want to wait until we get home. You think we’ll both fit in one of the bucket seats in my car?”
“
Jake
.”
They kissed again.
“There’s more room in the back seat,” she whispered.
He held her to him and laughed. He couldn’t remember when he’d ever felt such complete joy. No matter what happened, it would work out as long as he had Heather by his side.
“Let’s go home,” he said.
She nodded. “Yes, Jake.”
