That Zeus interjected something
jovially
was not accidental.*

C’mon, you get the joke, right? Right???

The Greeks, understandably spooked by the fickleness of their prickly gods, often referred to them by euphemisms, so as to sort of not garner their unwanted attention or accidentally piss them off. Or sometimes they did it to stroke the gods’ egos—hey, you do whatcha gotta do to survive; don’t judge. In my story, when you read that Hades is the Host of Many or Zeus is the Cloud Gatherer, know that I ripped these nicknames (and plot points) off from the works of Homer, Hesiod, and some other ancient Greek hep cats.

My first point of reference was a textbook from a Greek myths course I took at college: Morford, P.O. Mark and Robert J. Lenardon,
Classical Mythology
. 4
th
ed. White Plains: Longman, 1991. (They’ve got a pretty nifty Web site for the current edition too:
http://www.oup.com/us/companion.websites/9780195397703/?view=usa
. You can go to the character glossary to hear some of these names pronounced, if you’re so inclined.)

Thanks

Props to my first readers, Kellie, Lee, Marte (that’s MAR-tuh, not mar-TEE), Megan, Robin, and Toni. Every word, every note, helped me make the story more betterer. I heart you all, heaps.

Further praises for
my editor, Jena O’Connor
;
proofreader, Caren Estesen

Rock on to
my cover designer, Steven Novak

Thanks to my sister,
Star
, for that special
savoir faire
she possesses and shares with me, on demand. This chick ain’t a Virgo for nothin’, tell you what.

And thanks to
Duran Duran
(whose music has inspired me for thirty years and counting, and whose song “A View to a Kill” inspired the title of this book) and
Blondie
(whose song “Rapture” made me feel lust for the very first time).

Dedication

This book is dedicated to lovers everywhere who suffer from meddling family members—as if romancin’ wasn’t hard enough to figure out in the 21
st
century, what with social media, and who pays for what, and should I invite him up for a cup of coffee or will he think I’m asking him to spend the night? Sheesh, it’s like some folks ain’t never heard of Romeo and Juliet, and whatnot.

About the Author

Author Photo by Jeanette Estima

Mina Lobo writes dark and whimsical romances, dodges the slings and arrows of her outrageous college-aged son, and feels compelled to do things in threes. She digs comedic horror, alternative rock, and Belgian chocolates. (See?)
