The Raw Gourmet
(Book Publishing Co). Published in 1999 and now in its 15
th
printing,
The Raw Gourmet
has become a raw food classic and a best-seller. With over 250 recipes and filled with full-color food photographs,
The Raw Gourmet
is a complete resource guide to one of the world’s fastest growing nutrition and health movements, the raw food lifestyle. Inside you will learn how fresh non-cooked fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds can boost your vitality without sacrificing flavor.

In
The Raw Gourmet
Nomi tells you everything you need to know about equipment, soaking and sprouting, seasonal buying, food storage, where to find ingredients as well as providing a food glossary and much more. Nomi says, once you have read
The Raw Gourmet
from cover to cover, you will know everything you need to know to have a raw food kitchen! Entering its ninth year,
The Raw Gourmet
is still a top raw food best-seller!

Nomi graduated cum laude from Framingham State College in Massachusetts in 1983 with a degree in psychology and attended the Masters Degree program at Boston University’s school of Social work. During those years Nomi realized that the effects of food from a holistic point of view—body and mind—were more of a passion for her than psychological counseling. In 1987 Nomi began her own raw food journey by starting at 50% raw and becoming 100% raw the following year. Now, Nomi maintains a 100% raw regime most of the time, with some cooked food some of the time.

During her years working as Director of the Health Education Program and as a Program Counselor at Hippocrates Health Institute in Florida, Nomi saw profound
improvements in people’s health when they adopted a raw foods lifestyle. Nomi feels so honored that she has been able to observe first hand many times over the miracles of healing that can occur when a sick person utilizes a 100% raw food cleansing and detoxifying program. She feels that it only stands to reason that a high raw food program in a healthy person will help to avoid illness. Over the years Nomi has proven to herself both personally and by observation of others that the delights of looking and feeling years younger than their actual age, along with being vibrantly healthy, far outweigh any small inconvenience in time and effort to learn how to eat well.

A Certified Hippocrates Health Educator since 1995, Nomi is also Certified as an iridologist by Dr. Bernard Jensen, is a reiki master (non-practicing), and has training and experience in many alternative health modalities including herbal and homeopathic remedies. But the dominant subject that Nomi writes and teaches about is raw food—from therapeutic to gourmet.

Nomi currently resides in Wilmington North Carolina with Rocky the Dog. Nomi has two children and one grandchild.

SHAZZIE

Shazzie was born in East Yorkshire, England, on the 23rd of January, 1969. She became a vegetarian at the age of 16, and a vegan two years later. Though Shazzie was the only vegan she knew at the time, she never regretted sticking with this decision. It suited her feelings towards compassionate living, which was well worth the inconvenience.

By the time she was a vegan, Shazzie had already suffered a lifetime of feeling isolated, tired and unhappy, and as an adult this had blossomed into depression, lethargy and brain fog. The physical aches and pains were constant, as was the knowledge that she wasn’t living the life she was born to live.

Becoming a raw fooder at the age of 30 was an intrinsic part of Shazzie’s journey toward mental, spiritual and physical freedom. For the first time ever, she was loving life and she felt rebuilt in every way. No more crippling period pains, no more bad skin, or backaches, and finally, no more depression. Deciding to allow only positive energy into her body helped her to fulfil her lifelong dream—happiness!

When Shazzie went raw, she documented her journey in great detail at
www.shazzie.com/raw/journal/
. Then something amazing occurred…Her Web site started getting thousands of hits per week, and she was receiving letters from strangers saying that the information she had shared had changed their lives.

Shazzie.com currently gets over 2,000 hits per day, and is home to a unique set of step-by-step raw food preparation videos, covering a week’s worth of breakfast, lunch and dinner meals. You can also check out her detox workshop on video, for anyone who can’t get to see her in person.

Shazzie’s new book,
Detox Your World
is a unique and holistic guide to living a lighter life. Just like her previous publication, it doesn’t say “raw” on the cover, so it continues to secretly bring the raw message to the unsuspecting mainstream!

You can catch Shazzie at the workshops and talks she gives on food preparation, holistic detoxing, and love, life and liberty.

DR. JAMETH SHERIDAN

Dr. Jameth Sheridan became interested in health at a very young age. He grew up an avid athlete, and became involved in nutrition’s effects on physical performance. He eventually became a whole food Vegan (NOT a junk food Vegan—BIG difference) and watched his health and performance soar. When he discovered raw foods, his health reached a whole new level. Dr. Sheridan approaches raw foods very scientifically, and has done perhaps the only modern research on of its kind on raw foods including leukocytosis and enzyme temperatures. He and his wife Kim wrote the book
Uncooking With Jameth and Kim
in 1991. It introduced many new raw food recipes and recipe concepts that have been widely adopted since. Today he writes, researches and produces healing programs and products through HealthForce Nutritionals (
www.healthforce.com
) and also conducts on-going research into health excellence, Veganism, raw foods (
www.rawfoodresearch.com
) and overcoming serious diseases.

Dr. Sheridan has always sought a higher level of health and excellence, and in 1984 his passion for nutrition and health was ignited while participating in competitive athletics. He delved into nutrition and sports nutrition, gave up red meat, hydrogenated oil, white sugar and white flour and moved towards a whole food and plant-based lifestyle. He also started taking many supplements.
He got excellent results, and, after a few years, became a full-fledged Vegan, eating mostly whole foods. He has remained Vegan ever since.

Dr. Sheridan discovered raw foods in 1986 through Natural Hygiene, T.C. Fry, the works of Herbert Shelton and others. He gave up all of his supplements and herbs, as they were merely “toxic suppressive potions and elixirs” according to this philosophy. He began to water-fast, and became as hard core a raw foodist as anyone could imagine. A whole new world of cleansing and healing opened up to him.

Eventually, Dr. Sheridan discovered the works of Viktoras Kulvinskas, began growing and juicing wheat grass and sprouts, and started exploring “supplements” like algaes, superfoods and herbs (all taboo in Natural Hygiene). He also started dehydrating and making recipes. With this new approach to raw food Veganism, his health reached another level.

He and his wife Kim presented “Uncooking With Jameth & Kim” workshops all over the country (including being guest chefs at Hippocrates Health Institute) and eventually co-authored a book of the same name which includes the original Flax Seed Cracker recipes. They then went on to found HealthForce Nutritionals, which provides unique cleansing and healing products and programs.

Since he discovered raw foods in 1986, Dr. Sheridan has conducted extensive research on raw vegan foods and healing. He makes use of Kirlian photography, live blood cell analysis, traditional blood testing, iridology, and energetic measurements. Dr. Sheridan has established
www.rawfoodresearch.com
to further this on-going research. From his research, Dr. Sheridan has learned new reasons why raw vegan foods are so beneficial, and that many long held notions about raw foods were incorrect. Some of his findings include the following:

There is an immense difference between isolated or synthetic vitamins and minerals and what Dr. Sheridan has termed “Bio-Compatible Nutritional Superfoods™” This realization led him to create many natural superfood and herbal formulas to greatly enhance cleansing, healing, and regeneration.

Superfood/juice/herbal healing programs are far more effective at cleansing and healing and much easier on the body than water fasting.

Animal products are even more harmful than Dr. Sheridan had previously thought.

Dr. Sheridan’s research has also proven to him, over and over again, that if you want to achieve the highest level of health possible (in addition to being a whole foods Vegan), you simply must include a large percentage of high water content raw foods in your diet.

KIM SHERIDAN, N.D

Kim’s interest in nutrition was originally spurred by some health and nutrition courses she took during her first year in college. Initially, she took these courses out of personal interest and never intended to turn health into a career, but the more she learned, the more passionate she became about all things health-related. So she majored in both Health Education and Nutrition.

In the mid-1980s, Kim received some literature in the mail from the late T.C. Fry. Although she already instinctively felt drawn to fresh fruits and vegetables (and had decided to go vegan for ethical reasons), the Natural Hygiene literature from T.C. was her official introduction to raw foods. Kim was instantly hooked. She went on to study extensively under T.C. Fry at his retreat in Texas. She read everything she could get her hands on about raw foods and joined the original raw food support group in San Diego.

In 1990, Kim met her future husband, Jameth, at a Natural Hygiene conference on the east coast. She flew cross-country to attend that conference because she somehow knew that the man she would marry would be there. And he was.

The very first thing Kim and Jameth learned about each other was that they had both gone 100-percent raw the same day, long before they met. Kim and Jameth soon discovered that their life paths had been amazingly similar. Their connection was immediate, and they’ve been together ever since.

Kim and Jameth’s very first date was spent experimenting with different dehydrator recipes, and their very first creation was the original
Flax Cracker recipe
. Kim and Jameth both went on to earn degrees in Naturopathy as well as certification in myriad health and healing modalities. They gave regular raw food classes, lectures, dinners, and workshops; catered their own 100-percent raw wedding; jointly authored a recipe/nutrition book (
Uncooking with Jameth and Kim
); started a private practice; conducted and compiled research on multiple aspects of health and nutrition; and founded HealthForce Nutritionals to help people lead happier, healthier lives.

After many years, Kim has changed career paths and is still happily married to Jameth. Her time is now dedicated to many other projects, including her new book,
Animals and the Afterlife
. (Visit

CHERIE SORIA

Raw food revolutionary Cherie Soria is the founder and director of Living Light Culinary Arts Institute. She has been teaching gourmet raw vegan cuisine to individuals, chefs, and instructors for well over 15 years and vegetarian culinary arts for more than 35 years. Cherie is also the author of several books, including
Angel Foods: Healthy Recipes for Heavenly Bodies
, and the soon-to-be-released
Raw Food Diet Revolution: Feast, Lose Weight, Gain Energy, Feel Younger!

Cherie began her love affair with food at the age of 12, when she won her first cooking contest, and went on to become one of the world’s leading gourmet vegetarian chefs. She is highly regarded in the international vegetarian community.

In 1992, while studying with Dr. Ann Wigmore in Puerto Rico, Cherie learned the principles of using whole live foods to aid in healing and rejuvenation. She recognized the need to make these simple foods as nurturing to the soul as they are nourishing to the body, so she began creating a gourmet cuisine that would rival the most delicious traditional cooked foods. Since then, Cherie has personally trained many of the world’s top raw food chefs and instructors and is often referred to as the mother of gourmet raw vegan cuisine.

At the age of 60, Cherie was awarded her third black belt in the art of karate, one of her many interests. She is as trim as she was in high school, and is a beautiful example of the health benefits of a raw vegan diet.

Cherie is available for speaking engagements and culinary presentations and is a veteran of radio and television.
