. Leader of the
Oxford Movement
. As Regius Professor of Hebrew he lent his prestige and erudition to the Tractarian cause, which even became known, to its opponents, as ‘Puseyism’. His most influential activities were preaching and polemical writing, as well as spiritual counselling and acting as confessor to a wide range of people.
